Post Combine 2 Year Plan - Back to back Superbowl Champs! With Trades and 3 Round Mock

I spent days making spread sheet after spread sheet of mock drafts and estimated cap space calculations and so first and foremost, I am not sure why I have spent so much time and effort in creating a mock draft that is so contingent on a major trade, let alone the fact that I originally went into this two year plan looking to clear enough cap space to also sign Joey Bosa in free agency come 2021. Because Joey is definitely possible, but definitely not probable, I decided last minute to make a slight change to the strategy.

Player Retention:

It is important that the following players remain a part of our team, and the moderate to long term plan moving forward:
Levine Toilolo, TE
Ronald Blair, DE
Jeff Wilson Jr, RB
Kendrick Bourne, WR
Emmanuel Moseley, CB
Daniel Brunskill, OL

For the right price, I am happy to keep the following players, at least for the short term:
Shon Coleman, OT
Ben Garland, IOL
Damontre Moore, DL
Matt Breida, RB
Nick Mullens, QB

The biggest importance of this Superbowl window, imo, is to keep the strength of our team as strong as possible, for as long as possible. Shanny and Garappolo, combined with the league's best defense, will always be contenders.

Trades:

This is where it gets interesting. The consensus is that the Colts have three primary needs this offseason; DT, a franchise QB, and a fresh start at WR. TY Hilton is going into his contract year, coming off of injury, on the wrong side of 30. Colts will draft wide receiver Henry Ruggs III with their first round pick and

Trade 1: 49'ers acquire wide receiver TY Hilton, and picks 34 and 44 in the second round of the draft. In exchange, the Colts acquire pick 31 in the 1st round of the 2019 draft (QB incoming), a 2021 5th round draft pick, and breakout defensive lineman Arik Armstead.

Trade 2: 49'ers acquire picks R2P42 and R4P113. Jacksonville acquires pick R2P34. The Jacksonville Jaguars, after losing both star cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and AJ Bouye in the same year, look to double dip at CB to not miss a beat. Jacksonville moves up to grab the CB of their choice before the Lions (CB needy team who took BPA in Isaiah Simmons) and the Giants (CB needy team who took BPA in Derrick Brown) have a chance to steal the last remaining of the top tier CBs.

Trade 3: 49ers acquire picks R3P80, R3P81, and R5P159. Raiders acquire pick R2P44. The Oakland Raiders, after solidifying their defense in the first round with defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw and off-ball linebacker Patrick Queen, still need a WR. Laviska Shenault Jr is still on the board after a lackluster combine and some injury concerns, but has a chance to be a real franchise difference maker, perfect for a team in a new city and a new stadium. With three picks in the third, it makes too much sense for the Raiders to not pass this opportunity.

Trade 4: 49ers acquire pick R3P93 from the Tennessee Titans in exchange for defensive end/ 3-4 outside linebacker, Dee Ford. The Titans pair Dee Ford with Harold Landry. Dee Ford is on a very trade-able contract. We will eat some costs, but will still be a net positive for us in terms of cap space gained. Tennessee has cap room, a need for a pass rusher, and Dee Ford's deal essentially becomes a year to year deal, with no dead cap ramifications, after this year, which means Tennessee can let him go if he can't stay healthy. Not a bad deal to have Dee Ford contribute on our way to the league's best DL and a Superbowl visit to simply move from the second to third round in the draft.

Trade 5: 49ers move a few slots higher in the 4th round, packaging picks R4P113, R7P217 and R7P245 to whichever team accepts.

Trade 6: 49ers move back into the 4th round by sending some lucky team picks R5156 and R5P176

Trade 7: Belichick does what he does. Patriots acquire 49er legend Solomon Thomas. 49ers acquire pick R6P205.

Trade 8: 49ers move back into the 5th round by packaging newly acquired R6P205 with speedy wide out Marquise Goodwin.

Trade 9: Tevin Coleman is traded for a 6th round pick.

Free Agency:

FA comes first, but I wanted to first create some precedent for why I am proposing the moves that I am.

Robert Quinn, DE; 3 years, 31.5 million
I love Robert Quinn. I always have loved Robert Quinn. The Cowboys can't afford Robert Quinn, and current rumors point towards them losing him. If healthy, Quinn is everything you need from a nickel rusher. His price tag is lowered because of his shaky health history and inefficiency versus the run, but our team will need him for one reason only: get to the passer. Cheaper in the life of the contract than Dee Ford, the same amount of injury concern, but a higher ceiling (in my opinion).

Leonard Williams, DL; 2 years, 24 million
Arik Armstead, unfortunately, has priced himself off of the 49ers roster. Despite Williams's public demands, I think he will find that his market is a lot softer than he believes it will or should be, as he simply hasn't lived up to his original draft slotting or potential. William's estimated value is at $8.5 million per year, but Williams allegedly is asking for $15-16 million to stay with the Giants. This is where the 49'ers come in. Williams is still only 25 years old. At the end of this two year deal, he will still be in his prime, and still able to cash in on his one lucrative deal. What better way to boost his stock and value for that deal than to join the 49'ers where, if he is ever going to live up to the promise of his athletic gifts, this is where it will happen surrounded by elite talent. Doesn't hurt that he will also get to experience his first winning season since joining the NFL. Williams offers the same inside and outside versatility that AA did, is a top notch run defender, and still has the athletic upside to be a difference maker rushing the passer. Worst case scenario is he proves to be nothing more than the base end we needed to play Robin to Robert Quinn's Batman. Best case scenario is we have another "how do we keep AA?!?" situation in two years.

Remaining Needs:

IOL: Richburg is great, but injury concerns create the need for a backup plan. Guard is a weakness in pass protection that reared its ugly head in the biggest game, and I am quite certain that it is also limiting our play book.

DB: Sherman won't be able to go much longer, and his next contract will likely be larger than we should be willing to pay. K'wonn Williams is going to be paid as one of the highest paid nickel corners. Ahkello Witherspoon and Mosely have both showed promise (and some worrisome play), but are still largely question marks when it comes to being a CB1. Ward is gone, if not now then soon, and Tart might follow. We know it takes corners time to develop and catch up to the speed of the NFL, and we also know the camaraderie of the DBs room played a large role in how effective they were collectively as a unit. It's time to start drafting viable replacements now, so that we don't have to throw them into any fires. We cannot be relying on the Dontae Johnsons and Marcell Harrisses of the world.

OT: Joe Staley gets his ring in 2020, and then retires. We want to have options behind him, developed, and familiar with the playbook, so that we can have a repeat performance in 2021.

WR: With the addition of TY Hilton, I am not too concerned about the immediate state of our WR room. I have trust that Hurd will come back, and if he does, him, TY, Deebo, and Bourne make a good top 4, with Trent Taylor potentially resuming his role as a guaranteed chain mover as well.

40 ARI: Ross Blacklock, DT TCU
41 CLE: Kyle Dugger, S Lenior-Rhyne

42 SF (from JAX): Cesar Ruiz, IOL Michigan
For my money, Cesar Ruiz is OC #1 in this draft class, and he's everything the Niners will want in a prospect if looking for their center of the next 9 years. Usually, IOL are very scheme specific; either nimble but under-powered, or strong but plodders. Often, you will see a prospect who is great in run blocking, but leaves a lot to be desired in pass protection or vice versa. Ruiz is the rare exception where he is strong enough for a gap scheme, but his mobility really makes it a shame if he doesn't get involved in movement based or zone concepts. If Richburg can't go, or simply isn't the same player after injury, we can trust Ruiz to be serviceable as a year one starter. If Richburg is a go, Ruiz can battle with Brunskill for the starting RG job. One way or another, Ruiz should have a role on this team for a long time moving forward.

43 CHI: Adam Trautman, TE Dayton

76 TB: Justin Madubuike, DT Texas A&M
77 DEN: Jordan Elliot, DT Missouri
78 ATL: Raekwon Davis, DT Alabama
79 NYJ: Troy Pride Jr., CB Notre Dame

80 SF (from LV): Jeremy Chinn, S Southern Illinois
Jeremy Chinn has a strong chance to immediately push Marcell Harris off of the roster. Small school concerns aside, this is a big boy with elite athleticism. Measurables are very similar to fellow small school standout Kyle Dugger, and he actually looks smoother in movement skills. However, he is not quite as NFL ready as Dugger at this stage IMO, which is why he goes a bit later. Should make a nice dime linebacker in the short term, and take over as SS/Robber for Tart if/when he eventually walks.

81 SF (from LV): Kenny Robinson, S St. Louis Battlehawks (XFL)
Back to back safeties. This might make some of you scratch your heads. However, I just want to keep our defense stocked with defensive playmakers. I agree with Jimmie Ward in that Tarvarious Moore should be trusted with his shot at starting FS. Kenny Robinson is very much in the mold of Tarvarious Moore; a tall, long safety with great ball skills and elite athleticism. It helps that Robinson has played in the XFL, which gives him a little bit of "pro" experience. I feel much more comfortable with him backing up Moore than I do DJ Reed, and I think him and Moore, if both develop as planned, have a good chance to be the two starting interchangeable safeties, with Chinn moving to more of a "defensive weapon" role full time.

93 SF (from TEN): Reid Harrison-Ducros, NCB Duquesne
The heir apparent to K'wonn Williams. Seriously. I don't want to type about this kid, just go find some of his tape.

4th: Ben Bartch, OT St. John's
As a former TE, Bartch's journey to left tackle mimics that of Joe Staley, and he has many of the same traits. Worst case scenario, Batch has to move inside, but I feel very good about letting him learn for a year, and then taking over for Joe.

4th: Willie Gay Jr., LB Mississippi State
This year's Dre Greenlaw. After his monster showing at the combine, we are starting to hear about him more and more, but this is a monstrously explosive athlete with sideline to sideline ability. We need LB depth as it is, and for as much as I love Kwon Alexander, including as a Buc, we need injury insurance for him.

159 SF (from LV): Cameron Dantzler, CB Mississippi State
The combine normally shouldn't make or break a prospect. However, there are pretty well defined testing thresholds with a strong historical correlation to NFL success. Cameron Dantzler's showing at this year's combine fell well short of that threshold with a 4.64 40 yard dash to go with a disappointing 34.5" vertical and a measly 30-5/8" arms and 188 lbs. on a tall 6022 frame. I am hoping that this poor showing and weigh-in ends up being a blessing in disguise, as there is no way we get him this late in the draft otherwise. As a prospect, Dantzler really reminded me of Ahkello Witherspoon coming out of Colorado; tall, long and lanky, with borderline freaky height adjusted athleticism, only without the concerns over physicality, alpha demeanor, love of the game, and mental lapses. This is why it was so mind boggling to see him test and measure so poorly. Rest assured, the combine has completely taken Dantzler off of some team's boards, and made him undraftable, but the 49ers are in a position, however, to gamble that the player we see on tape is the player we will get in the NFL, despite what the testing would tell us. Dantzler was shutting down SEC wide receivers, including the likes of LSU's Ja'Marr Chase, on a week in and week out basis. Ideally, Dantzler brings enough of THAT player to compete with Ahkello and Mosely for the #2 CB spot moving forward. At the very least, his technique and ability should allow him to put the clamps on opposing wide receivers when used sparingly in relief duty; sort of like a good backup QB, we may not be able to count on him game after game, but we can trust him, his technique, and his ability to get us through a few rough spots.

5th: Darrynton Evans, RB Appalachian State
To be fair, I don't know much about Darrynton Evans, but he looks like a Shanny RB, he tests like a Shanny RB, and well, Shanny needs another RB.

6th: John Hightower, WR Boise State
I don't want to call Hightower a sleeper, because there are definitely a few who are very high on him, but he definitely isn't getting the love he deserves. In a less stacked class, he likely goes a round or two higher than this. He doesn't do any one thing spectacularly well, but he does do everything. Makes for a decent deep threat as well. A good WR4/5 to start, with developmental potential to become a solid WR3.

210 SF: Benito Jones, DT1T Ole Miss
Back up to D.J. Jones, and quiet similar as prospects. Solid athleticism.

UDFA: Niko Lalos, DE Dartmouth
Developmental DE to push Damontre Moore as the 4th DE.

UDFA: Chris Rowland, WR Tennessee State
A lighting quick WR in the mold of Richie James Jr. Too small to be an every down guy, but electric ability to take it to the house on designed plays.

UDFA: Drew Wiley, FB Villanova
6'1" 245 lb LB to FB convert running a 4.6 40 and with good ball skills.

UDFA: Bronson Reichsteiner, FB Kennesaw State
Fast and strong as s**t, dude is jacked, had 35 reps on the bench and runs a sub 4.5. Can block and you can tell he loves it. Son of a pro wrestler (or so I've read) and so instant hit with Kittle and the guys.

UDFA: Garrett Marino, DL UAB
Undersized with a maxed out frame, not sure where he will fit, and might be exclusively a nickel 3T in an even front. Doubt he can ever tip 300 lbs. However, he is strong as hell (41 reps at proday, 43 if you allow the two where they say he didn't lock out), fast, relatively agile, quick first step, strong and effective hands, and quick to diagnose plays.

Kyle Hinton, OG Washburn
Uber athletic practice squad candidate

Raymond Calais, RB Louisiana-Lafayette
Potential for another Mostert story. Fast and tough little guy.

2021 Free Agency:

Players to keep:
Kyle Juszczyk
Ahkello Witherspoon
D.J. Jones

Pending:
Jaquiski Tartt
Robbie Gould
C.J. Beathard

2021 NFL Draft:

R1 Shaun Wade, CB Ohio State
Could make for an elite FS. Could make for an elite NCB. I think this year, he shows the potential to make for an elite outside CB to take over for Sherm. His versatility makes it so we only need to carry one other NCB on the roster.

R2 Pat Freiermuth, TE Penn State
They call him Gronk Lite. Him and Kittle on the field together will just be absolutely unfair.

R3 Wyatt Davis, OG Ohio State
Takes over for Laken Tomlinson

R4 Demetris Robertson, WR Georgia
Another fast, deep threat receiver. TY Hilton is not getting any younger.

Key 2021 Championship Roster:

QB: Jimmy Garappolo
RB: Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., Darrynton Evans, Kyle Juszczyk
WR: Deebo Samuel, Jalen Hurd, TY Hilton, Kendrick Bourne, John Hightower, Demetris Robertson, Chris Rowland
TE: George Kittle, Pat Freiermuth, Levine Toilolo
OL: Ben Bartch, Wyatt Davis, Cesar Ruiz, Daniel Brunskill, Mike McGlinchey, Justin Skule

LB: Fred Warner, Kwon Alexander, Dre Greenlaw, Azeez Al-Shaair, Willie Gay Jr.
DL: Nick Bosa, DeForest Buckner, DJ Jones, Leonard Williams, Robert Quinn, Benito Jones, Ronald Blair, Julian Taylor, Kentavious Street, Niko Lalos
CB: Shaun Wade, Emmanuel Mosely, Ahkello Witherspoon, Cameron Dantzler, Tim Harris, Reid Harrison-Ducros
S: Tarvarious Moore, Kenny Robinson, Jeremy Chinn

Specialists: Mitch Wishnowsky

2022 NFL Draft:

R1 George Pickens, WR Georgia
If I love George Pickens, the Webzone won't be able to contain themselves.

R2 Jason Oweh, EDGE Penn State
Ready to take over for Robert Quinn.

Whoa
Dude, obviously you spent a lot of time on this so props for that. However........nine trades? It's hard to fathom more than two trades much less nine.

That aside, obviously we like some of the same prospects. Good job covering all the needs, especially the IOL and the secondary.
I would not break up the DL that has chemistry and add Quinn and Williams. I'm not sure about TY anymore either.

Yea, went more for "lets have fun" than realism and got a bit carried away hahah. I did try to at least be conscious of draft value when formulating the trade scenarios, and for the more major trades, tried to make sure it made sense for the other team and not just the niners.

I too am highly valuing continuity and culture. However, this roster was largely built in the 3 draft classes, with only two of which having been considered widely successful. This team is more about the guys they bring in, and not necessarily the time they've spent together. AA has to be replaced eventually, and Dee Ford was only with the team for one season; no reason Quinn can't immediately gel in the same way. For TY, at the very least, he's the speed threat shanny needs, and a major upgrade over Goodwin, even if he doesn't go back to being a 1k receiver after injury. Really tho, look at his stats over his career, and it's hard to believe he isn't due for another 2 great seasons, and a few more where he is just a solid contributer.

2012: 861 (15 games)
2013: 1083
2014: 1345 (15 games)
2015: 1124
2016: 1448
2017: 966
2018: 1270 (14 games)
2019: 501 (10 games)

Kudos on the effort for sure. I think your trades are not super realistic but I'd love to see that happen...especially the first two.

Are XFL players eligible for the draft? I didn't know that.
I think the FO is going to disappoint and not go, OL early. There is too much value at WR this year. Maybe the kid from ND is on their radar to replace DL talent and then I think they are hitting the secondary.
There's a whole hell of a lot going on here. Props for the work. Not sure sure about all the trades, but it's your mock

FWIW Williams is all but sure to resign with NY. A report came out today about it.

You have to spend draft picks on XFL players? They can't just be signed after their season is done?

I'm gonna pass on Quinn & Hilton. TY is in his last yr of his deal and got a $14M cap hit.

Where is Gay gonna play? we have 3 very good LBers....I also think his draft stock jumped up higher than the forth after the combine.

Imo waiting until the 6th to take a WR from this draft class (with all those picks) That's a no no for me (but I get it because you have us getting TY in this scenario).

And 4 DBs? Dang seems a bit much.

Well when you trade for a million picks, you gotta use em without a lot of holes on the roster, tryna think for the future, and Sherm, Witherspoon, tart, and ward may all be gone
Since 2017 (Shannahan's first season as the 49ers head coach), TY Hilton has accounted for 2737 yards receiving in only 40 games. That is equivalent to 24% of our entire passing offense in that same span. At his age, his next contract will be much more reasonable, and we can work to spread out the 14 million hit for this year. As for Quinn, dude is just a stud.

You certainly got a million picks to work with lol.

I wouldn't be shocked if they signed a top end CB if they don't bring back Sherm.

I looked it up cuz I was curious, I gues Robinson is a special case cuz he only had 2 years post HS.

before being eligible to declare for the draft. Robinson spent two seasons with the West Virginia Mountaineers before he chose to leave. He originally entered the NCAA's transfer portal, but he later decided to play in the XFL instead.

"When I was leaving school, I had just found out recently that my mom had cancer," Robinson told USA Today. "(So) the decision was either go back to school and sit out a year, and then wait until next year to be drafted, or go to the XFL and help provide for my family."
