2020 NFL DRAFT
1. Henry Ruggs III-WR-Alabama, 5-11 188 4.28
My guess is that Jeudy won't be an option, so I imagine we'll go all in on Ruggs. Paired with the next offensive player in this mock, Gibson, that would give the 49ers two speed demons on offense, two bullies (Deebo & Hurd), and 2 flex/slot players (whoever wins out between Pettis/James/Taylor/Bourne (if re-signed) and whoever else is brought in).
2. Justin Madubuike-DT-Texas A&M, 6-3 293 4.83
Sensational athlete for a man his size with an impressive combination of lateral agility, brute strength, and straight line speed. Good length for an IDL at 33 1/2 inches. Strong motor. Room to grow technique wise, but a very high upside player who could fall to us, though I would not be shocked if a team banked on that upside and took him in the 1st.
3. Antonio Gibson-RB/WR-Memphis, 6-1 228 4.39
Outside of Jeff Wilson, the team lacks a power back. Gibson brings that kind of size, but more than that, the speed to breakaway, and receiving ability to make him a multi-dimensional threat on offense, as well as in the KR/PR game. Shanahan would have an absolute field day finding ways to use him, Deebo, and Jalen Hurd on the field at the same time.
4. Michael Ojemudia-CB-Iowa, 6-1 200 4.45
Size. Above average speed. Fluid hips and feet. Top class football IQ. Extensive experience in the zone coverage scheme. Works off blocks fairly well. Hits but may need to improve consistency wrapping up. Needs improvement when left in man-to-man situations where he can get beat vertically despite his athleticism. He's a prospect the 49ers met with -- to no one's surprise -- and has the look, overall, of a reliable pro at the next level.
5. Alton Robinson-DE-Syracuse, 6-3 264 4.69
Robinson may not have the most ideal length, but it's not that shabby (32 3/8" arms) and he makes up for it with good hand usage and hustle to get after the quarterback. These things helped him notch double-digit sacks this season and he's a guy the 49ers met with at the Senior Bowl. He's not one of the more high profile defenders, but he's a middle round guy that I think could potentially slip to the top of the 5th. Another option could be Trevis Gipson of Tulsa who caught some attention as well from other teams needing a pass rusher.
5. McTelvin Agim-DE/DT-Arkansas, 6-3 309 4.98
It's clear we're looking for DE/DT hybrids who can set the edge at 5T, penetrate inside from the 3T, and pass rush at both. Agim fits that description. He was labeled as "unblockable" during the Shrine game week and figures to be a mid-round pick. He's got an explosive first step and tenacious hustle to get after passers. He's relatively inexperienced on the interior but refinement of technique and the element of "having a plan" will come over time.
6. Cameron Clark-C/OG-Charlotte, 6-4 308 5.29
Clark is a highly versatile OL who could play any position on the line and has experience at center going back to high school. He started the past four seasons at LT, and his success there could have a team look at him for that position, but from what I gather, most scouts like his traits translating as an inside force. We all know how the Niners love team captains, and Clark was a two-year captain for his squad and has been noted for an absolutely nasty demeanor on the field, making him a seemingly perfect fit for the team. Quality OL won't last too long in this top-heavy class, but Clark who may get knocked for consistency issues and lesser competition seems like a good bet to be available here.
7. Kamal Martin-LB-Minnesota, 6-3 240 4.68
Tell me if this sounds familiar: Team captain, instinctual player, good coverage linebacker. Martin has speed but he's definitely not one of those smaller guys out there, he can absolutely level people in the open field. On top of having elite length (34-inch arms), I think he has somewhat deceptive speed at times that gets QBs thinking they can fit the ball in on him and then it just doesn't happen. I think the tape shows a guy with above average play recognition ability, good athletic traits, solid block shedding ability, all with the aforementioned coverage ability. He had a minor knee injury that has kept him from working out this off-seaosn and limited him to 8 games, so the stat sheet isn't super eye-opening, but he still posted 2 INT, 2 FF, 2.5 TFL and a sack in that span. This is very, very similar to Greenlaw's 2018 numbers at Arkansas of 2 INT, 2 sacks, 1 FF, and 6.5 TFL in 10 games before we picked him late last year. Just saying...
7. Hakeem Adeniji-OG-Kansas, 6-4 300 5.15
Hakeem fits the bill as a typical late round OL Shanahan grabs because he fits the scheme. Yes, he's got a fair amount of things to refine, but what do you expect in the 7th round? He's a RT who fits inside in the NFL and his athletic traits translate well to the ZBS scheme. We've already met with him so you know he's on our radar. Definitely see him being in play in the late rounds here.
