April Mock Plan

Assumption:
- Unless we think we can get the next Julio, we don't stay pat at #13 overall. We trade back.
- WR, CB, IOL, #2 TE, DL are our top needs. We will take a BPA approach with the needs.
- If we don't draft one of the above positions early on, we look to FA or trade market. Don't @ me.

NFL Draft:
CIN: Burrow - QB | Duh. New era of Bengals football.
WAS: Young - DE | Ideally they'd trade back and select Young, but that's not going to happen.
MIA: Tua - QB (trade) | MIA-DET swap picks - Pats connected coaches here.
NYG: Thomas - T | Could be Wirfs, Becton, or Wills here. But Thomas is the best pure T in the draft.
DET: Simmons - LB | Scheme and position flex, Simmons has all pro intangibles.
JAX: Okudah - CB (trade) | LAC and JAX trade spots for them to select Ramsey's replacement.
CLE: Wills - T (trade) | Leapfrog ARI via CAR to select their LT of the future. Only glaring need is LB now.
ARI: Becton - T | Run on tackles means Becton gets picked here. Need to protect their FQB.
LAC: Herbert - QB | Still got their new FQB and now have additional draft ammo to trade up for a T.
CAR: Brown - DT | BPA selection here after losing out on Simmons and Okudah.
NYJ: Jeudy - WR | Darnold finally gets a #1 receiver. They miss out on LTs here.
LV: Lamb - WR | Gruden and Mayock land Cooper's replacement. Lamb-Williams excellent duo with Renfrow in the slot.

*49ers trade: #13 and Goodwin for Broncos #15, 3rd, and 6th (via WAS) round picks*

DEN: Wirfs - T/G (trade) | Elway pays a premium to secure the RT. They'll add WR in round 2, but also acquire Goodwin.
TB: Taylor - RB | You need a strong run game with Brady, and Taylor is the best fit for Arians. They go OL in R2.

49ers Draft:

R1: Henry Ruggs - WR/KR - Alabama (via DEN) | Explosive playmaker that adds a new dimension to our offense.

*49ers trade: #31 for Panthers #38, 4th, and 5th round picks, trading up to select Delpit - S - LSU*

R2: Jaylon Johnson - CB - Utah (via CAR) | Smooth press corner that's primed to take over Sherman's role as #1 CB in 2021. Solid intangibles that can also flex both outside and inside on passing downs. Underrated prospect in this draft.

R3: Davon Hamilton - DT - Ohio St. (via DEN) |  3T or 1T run stuffer with some upside as a pass rusher. A base down player in year 1.

R4: Lynn Bowden - OW - Kentucky (via CAR) |  He best projects as a slot receiver, but he can do it all - run, pass, and catch.

R5: Ben Bartch - OL/TE - St. Johns (via CAR) | Bartch will challenge Coleman and Compton for depth spots across the OL.

R5: Jake Hansen - C/G - Oregon (via DEN) | Cali native, consistent 4 year starter, excellent size for the position, and a good scheme fit. Bad combine drops him here.

R5: K'Von Wallace - DB/S - Clemson | ST and backup DB depth. Focuses his time as a free safety in year 1, backing up J. Ward.

R6: Stephen Sullivan - TE - LSU (via DEN) | Tall and athletic, and experienced in pro style systems. Needs to improve his blocking.

R6: La'Darius Hamilton - DE/LB - North Texas | Developmental prospect and EDGE depth security.

R7: Charlie Woerner - TE - Georgia (via DET) | Pure blocking TE with some pass catching upside.

R7: Calvin Taylor - DT/DE - Kentucky | Tall mofo that could be an interesting developmental prospect for base end run stopping and ST unit duties.

Projected 53 Man Roster:

QB: Garoppolo/Mullens (PS: UDFA)
RB: Coleman/Mostert/McKinnon/Wilson (PS: UDFA)
FB: Juice
TE: Kittle/Dwelley/Woerner* (PS: Sullivan*)

WR: Samuel/Bourne (PS: Poindexter)
WR: Ruggs*/Hurd
WR: Bowden*/Pettis

LT: Staley/Skule
LG: Tomlinson (PS: Reynolds)
C: Richburg/Hansen*
RG: Brunskill/Garland
RT: McGlinchey/Bartch*

DE: Armstead/Blair/Hyder*
DT: Hamilton*/Thomas/Street
DT: Jones/Givens (PS: Taylor*)
DE: Bosa/Ford (PS: Hamilton*)

LB: Alexander/Greenlaw/Nzeocha
LB: Warner/Walker* (PS: Al-Shaair)

CB: Sherman/Witherspoon
CB: Johnson*/Moseley
CB: Williams (PS: Harris; Tabor)
FS: Ward/Wallace*
SS: Tartt/Moore/Harris

ST: Gould, Wishnowsky, Nelson

Breida, Beathard, Coleman, and Garland are cut or traded during the pre-season, providing significant cap savings for rollover purposes to extend Kittle in 2020, and Warner and McGlinchey in 2021.

Good ideas on the trades. First two picks are OK, but not spectacular. Definitely don't think that Bartch will last to the 5th round. Great picks late in Wallace and Hamilton. Definitely don't need two TE's on this draft. Solid overall mock.
Two rookie WRs starting?
Good mock. I'd be pretty happy if things played out that way. Although, I did think edge depth should be more of a priority than interior defensive line.

Don't underestimate the impact Ruggs and Johnson will have on our team. They need to account for Samuel, Ruggs, and Kittle, which further opens the ground game. Johnson is an upgrade to Moseley and Witherspoon, and has the potential to be a top 15 CB in the NFL.

Spot on with Bartch - may be unrealistic to see him last to the 5th, but small school prospects tend to drop. The lack of pro days and face to face meetings with scouts may further push him down teams draft boards.

In the late rounds, it's always a flyer on the selections. We've carried 4 TEs before, and I wouldn't be surprised if Hurd starts on PUP, and we keep both rookie TEs on the active roster. We lost Toilolo and K. Smith, and we didn't really sign anyone for that position group in free agency. I like Dwelley, but he needs competition to justify he's a TE #2. Sullivan is an athletic TE while Woerner is a blocking TE.

I do select Hamilton as the EDGE guy on Day 3. Chances are we also re-sign D. Moore after the draft. We already have Bosa, Armstead, Ford, and Blair at DE. And we got Hyder, Hamilton, potentially D. Moore, and Kongbo - an interesting prospect from the CFL.

One of the concerns I have with the departure of Buckner is our run defense. Thomas, Street, and Taylor are unproven, and Jones is only one piece of the puzzle. I would rate IDL as a higher priority vs. EDGE for that reason.

I don't disagree, but even with Buck, the run D was/has been mediocre.
Broncos don't need a RT - they signed Ja'Wuan James to a 4 year $51 million deal last season. The teams that need a tackle are the Bucs and Dolphins.
If Ruggs is our guy we take him at 13 and don't trade down with a team wanting a WR. I dig Johnson and Hamilton. Bartch won't be there in the 5th. He's gone late day 2 in my opinion.
