AdrianLesnar's Final 2020 Two Year Mock Draft

To start things off, my ideal scenario is still Henry Ruggs at 13, Cesar Ruiz at 31, and just figure the rest out from there. However, because in a mock draft I have the benefit of "hindsight," this mock will portray, in my opinion, the best way to complete our roster for immediate and continued success. As always, there will be questions about how realistic certain trades or the draft position for certain players are, but I tried my best to think of at least possible scenarios, and draft players around where available info lead me to believe they would ultimately be slotted on draft day.

R1P1 CIN: Joe Burrow, QB
R1P2 WAS: Chase Young, EDGE
R1P3 DET: Jeff Okudah, CB
R1P4 NYG: Isaiah Simmons, LB/S
Dave Gettleman has never drafted OL in the first round, and this year will not be the first. While it is universally agreed upon that this is a very strong OT class, there are some well respected and well connected people who believe that there isn't a "blue chip" OT talent in this class, and certainly not to the caliber of prospect that they believe Simmons to be. I disagree with both statements, but am happy to be wrong.
R1P5 MIA: Tua Tagovailoa, QB
R1P6 LAC: Justin Herbert, QB
R1P7 CAR: Derrick Brown, DT
R1P8 ARI: Javon Kinlaw, 34DE
I am a believer that Cliff Kingsburry is the type of young naive coach to believe that, as long as he has his QB and the offensive skill positions/weapons around him, his scheme will work. Their draft last year would seem to lend to this idea as well. I think he looks at the 49ers and thinks, with the weapons Arizona has assembled on offense, there is no reason they can't keep up with Shanahan, so let's copy their approach and load up on the defensive line. The defense, particularly pass defense, was abysmal last season, but pairing Kinlaw with Chandler Jones will go a long way towards fixing that. What better way to take advantage of a HOF talent in Patrick Peterson's last few years, and to help their second round pick from last year Byron Murphy?
R1P9 JAX: C.J. Henderson, CB
They lost their two starting CBs, which has been the strongest position group on the team in recent years.
R1P10 CLE: Andrew Thomas, OT
Cleveland needs a plug and play left tackle, and they will take the most sure thing.
R1P11 NYJ: CeeDee Lamb, WR
R1P12 LV: Jerry Jeudy, WR
R1P13 DEN (from SF): Henry Ruggs III, WR
R1P14 TB: Tristan Wirfs/ Jedrick Wills, OT
Right tackle is inevitable, meaning SF won't have their choice. I am fine with either, but hopefully TB banks on the upside of Wirfs.

R1P15 SF: 1A. Jedrick Wills, OT, 1B. Tristan Wirfs, OT
*Broncos trade R1P15, R4P118, and a 2021 2nd round pick to SF for R1P13 and a 2021 5th round pick. Denver takes Henry Ruggs III, WR*
First things first, I am drafting a tackle to play tackle. If this means that they ride the bench for a year, I am fine with that. Team building starts in the trenches, and with our cornerstone in Joe Staley coming to the end of his career, with a drop off in ability likely to come before retirement, it is time to think about the future. How soon is too soon, though, especially in the middle of a Superbowl window? Rarely are you in position to take a OT prospect of this caliber, and even more rarely, if ever, are you in this position after making the playoffs, which I am expecting the 49'ers to continue to do well beyond when OT becomes an immediate need. I would rather take the BPA and see what happens in training camp. Again, I am drafting the player to play LT for the next 10 years, but IF they win the RG job in the meanwhile, that is not the goal, but certainly a nice bonus. I have no doubt that either Wills or Wirfs would also be IOL 1 and 2 in this draft class, and are better than any options currently on our team. If Brunskill wins the job and our 13th pick rides the bench? That's even better, because that means we have our LT AND our OG of the future already on the roster.

R2P44 (from IND): Jaylon Johnson, CB
*Colts trade R2P44, R3P75 and R6P193 to SF for R1P31. Colts take Jacob Eason, QB*
Despite the stats and PFF grade, it is evident that Sherman is beginning his descent, and I think teams will be more willing to try to expose his decline this upcoming season. In addition, the rest of our CB room is hitting free agency as well, and it is time to start finding the pieces for the secondary of the future. Johnson is feisty, excels in a variety of techniques and schemes, and can get the ball.

R3P75 (from IND): Bryan Edwards, WR
Just because we don't take a WR in the 1st round does not mean I have forgotten about or intend to neglect the position. Bryan Edwards reminds me of Allen Robinson II. He is a good blend of size and speed, can make the highlight reel 50/50 ball catch, and can be used at all three levels of the field. I believe he has the chance to be a true #1 WR. He is an ex-teammate of Deebo Samuel, making this pick even more enticing. While he is a different receiver than Deebo, he can still be used in a lot of the same ways. The WR room isn't done yet, but if Deebo naturally continues to improve this season, his production will replace that which we lost from Sanders, and Edwards is more than a solid enough prospect to reproduce Deebo's rookie production. Add in the return of Hurd and Taylor, and potentially a reinvigorated Pettis, and we aren't as bad off as many think in this department just because we don't have Jeudy, Lamb, or Ruggs on the roster.

R4P118 (from DEN): Jonathan Garvin, EDGE
Jonathan Garvin is not my first choice here, and I'd take Darrell Taylor (ER3 for me) or Alton Robinson over him, if either are available. However, it is hard to gauge where a lot of these players are going to go, and so I figured a small reach on Jonathan Garvin would be more of a sure bet in regards to realism. All of this is not to say that I don't like Garvin. We definitely need edge help; we still have to consider Bosa's prior injuries, Dee Ford is a luxury when on the field but can't be counted on, Blair is coming off injury, AA is likely to further split his time between inside and out given Buckner's departure, and the cupboard is dry after that. I prefer a speed/bend rusher in the mold of Dee Ford here, but this isn't that type of class this year. My biggest knock on Garvin is he seems a bit lazy. Even in highlights, he looks to move in slow motion at times relative to the flashes of burst that we see. He is not overweight, but his body is soft. He is consistently last off the LOS, and his 40 was underwhelming. His body is very leggy. But alas, that is why he is a forth round pick. When he does get moving, he covers a ton of ground. His first steps are explosive, and he has long arms to make tackles in the backfield. He flashes ability to flatten and bend around the corner, and he shows a solid baseline level of knowledge and experience with his hands. I am hoping that our environment, combined with his only job being to rush the passer in a rotational role on situational downs, will give him the excitement he needs to take full advantage of the tools that he flashes. If he lives up to it, he will be a well rounded pass rush specialist in regards to size, speed, bend, and technique.

R5P156 SF: Dalton Keene, TE/HB
This is definitely Shanny's type of guy, and potentially the TE2 we have been looking for this off-season. He is the definition of "swiss army knife," as an athletic offense option, and solid blocker. He loves to finish on blocks, and I think his personality would mesh well with Kittle. More importantly, I think he can develop into the long term replacement for Kyle Juszczyk.

R5P176 SF: McTelvin Agim, DT3T
This former 5-star recruit is a little ball of dynamite who is built to penetrate the line of scrimmage. He is scheme limited, but is exactly what we are looking for out of our 3 technique.

R6P193 (from IND): Benito Jones, DT1T
DJ Jones clone to back up DJ Jones

R6P210 SF: Keith Ismael, C
Backup option at center, and insurance option if Richburg can't go, or doesn't last the season. Zone specific talent.

R7P217 SF: Reid Harrison-Ducros, NCB
A continued favorite sleeper of mine at NCB.

R7P245 SF: Darnell Mooney, WR/ Chris Rowland, WR/ Jimmie Robinson, WR
The common theme here is small, but fast fast fast. Either has the ability to get behind the defense on a go, or take a quick slant to the house with true 4.3 speed. I haven't seen as much of Robinson, both both Mooney and Rowland have no problem tracking the deep ball over the shoulder. Both are tough and unafraid of contact. While Rowland can as well, Mooney has a lot more tape of attacking the ball rather than waiting for it to come to him. You won't ask this of him a lot in the NFL because of his size, but it is good to know this isn't one of those track stars playing football, who always let the ball into their body. This is a football player. Rowland, who I think I like a little bit more than Mooney, and is also more likely to be available here, shows great vision and open field shiftiness, and is an option in the return game. I think any of these three players have a realistic shot to push Goodwin AND Richie James (tho I like James Jr.) off the roster.

2021 NFL OFFSEASON
FA: Aldon Smith, EDGE
I think Aldon has a chance to be comeback player of the year this season, and if so, he is plenty young enough to bring back to SF to replace Dee Ford, who is likely traded after the 2020 season. If Aldon is even 70% of his old self, but able to stay clean, out of trouble, and on the field, imagine him opposite Bosa.

FA: Carl Lawson, EDGE
The biggest question is health, but I think Lawson is sorely underused in Cincinnati. He was one of my favorites in his draft class, and after his rookie year, I was even more bummed we didn't grab him.

R1 SF: Shaun Wade, DB
R2 SF: Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR
R2 (from DEN): Hamsah Nasirildeen, S
R3 SF: Max Borghi, RB
R4 SF: Alaric Jackson, OG

2021 Key Roster
QB: Jimmy Garoppolo
RB: Raheem Mostert, Max Borghi
FB: Kyle Juszczyk
OL: Jedrick Wills, Daniel Brunskill, Weston Richburg, Alaric Jackson, Mike McGlinchey
TE: George Kittle, Dalton Keene
WR: Bryan Edwards, Deebo Samuel, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jalen Hurd, Kendrick Bourne/Trent Taylor, Darnell Mooney/Chris Rowland

DL: Aldon Smith, Arik Armstead, Julian Taylor, Nick Bosa, Ronald Blair, DJ Jones, McTelvin Agim, Jonathan Garvin, Kentavious Street, Benito Jones
LB: Kwon Alexander, Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw
CB: Shaun Wade, Jaylon Johnson, Emmanuel Moseley, Reid Harrison-Ducros
S: Hamsah Nasirldeen, Tarvarious Moore, Jimmie Ward
I posted we should take WR at 13 but that was under the assumption the top 3 OK are gone. However, if Wirfs or Wills are there, you cannot pass up a possible 10 year franchise LT. Thomas is OK but he does not have the ceiling of those two it seems. Joe is still playing well, but Richburg's career may be over, so C is a more IMMEDIATE concern even though we have Garland, so we want to target the best C at 31 or with a slight trade back. We can manage with the WRs and CBs we have on the roster, but if the OL tanks, we are sunk.
Agree with giving Aldon a shot. Alcoholism can be rehabbed, character most often cannot. We all love Aldon, and if he comes on a no risk prove it contract, what's the risk?

Ya I think he can still be special
Everytime I say it's my final mock, new info comes up about the niners targeting a certain player or position, or a player I had identified as a late round sleeper starts to have his name mentioned more frequently on the media, or I just simply change my mind.

Here is what I would do given the trade scenarios presented in the OP:

R1P15: Javon Kinlaw, DL
R2P44: Jaylon Johnson, CB
R3P75: Bryan Edwards, WR
R4P118: Kenny Robinson, S
R5P156: Saahdiq Charles, OL
R5P176: Jonathan Garvin, ER
R6P193: Darnell Mooney, WR
R6P210: Kirk Merritt, WR
R7P217: Keith Ismael, IOL
R7P245: Reid Harrison-Ducros, NCB

2021 targets: Shaun Wade, Pat Freiermuth, Max Borghi, Alaric Jackson
