Kalen49ers Final Mock

Hey all! The draft is a couple of days away and I couldn't be more excited. My mock draft I definitely wanted to keep it realistic, with an aim of winning now but also setting us up nicely for the future. Just to preface I am assuming Joe Staley does play in 2020. I had a lot of this Mock done a number of days ago, then I see Peter King's Mock Draft and we basically had the exact same trade twice in the 1st Round. Anyways, here goes...

Trades

  • 49ers trade #13 overall to the New England Patriots for #23 overall and their 2021 1st Round pick. Rationale: Patriots trade up for a new QB, Belichick can't possibly want to go ahead with Stidham and Hoyer. We move down, still in a position to get a good talent, and in 2021 we have two 1st Round Picks to address CB and LT.
  • 49ers trade #31 overall to the NY Jets for #48 overall and #79 overall. Rationale: Jets gotta give Darnold a real chance to succeed, I say they take OT at #11 and then a WR at #31 or vice versa. We get more draft picks to work with.
  • 49ers trade Matt Breida to the Philadelphia Eagles for their #127 overall pick (4th) Rationale: They need RB help and we have a surplus amount of RB's.
  • 49ers trade #176 overall (5th) and #217 overall (7th) to Chicago for #163 overall (5th) Rationale: We ensure to get a guy we want in the 5th round.

Draft
We are now picking at 23 overall, in this scenario I project by the time our pick rolls around the following players have been drafted: 4 QB's, 5 OT's (Josh Jones being the 5th), 4 WR's (Mims being the 4th), 3 CB's, 2 DT's, 2 EDGE, LB Kenneth Murray and S Xavier McKinney.

Round 1 #23 Overall (via Pats) - WR Justin Jefferson LSU - Good hands, good after the catch, solid routes and a very willing blocker. Another weapon for Jimmy G to throw to. Essentially we traded DeForest Buckner for Jefferson and a 2021 1st Round pick. Not bad.

Round 2 #48 Overall (via Jets) - DT Justin Madubuike Texas A&M - We have a ton of snaps to replace with Buckner and Day gone, I do like what DJ Jones brings and I think guys like Jullian Taylor, Solomon Thomas are ok but we need a guy who can come in and play 30 snaps a game. That's what Madubuike can do.

Round 3 #79 Overall (via Jets) - C Matt Hennessy Temple - They are "hopeful" that Richburg can be available come training camp, I like Brunskill and I don't know much about Compton but my guess is we will need a legit starter at either C or RG come week 1, Hennessy has the skill set to be that guy.

Round 4 #127 Overall (via Eagles) - EDGE Alton Robinson Syracuse - Excellent first step, just needs more coaching, can come in and learn from Kocurek, Bosa and Ford, and fill in on passing downs. Ideally by 2021 could take over Ford's role as being our primary guy to bring in on 3rd down.

Round 5 #156 Overall (via Broncos) - TE Dalton Keene Virginia Tech - Similar to Kittle in that his college production wasn't great but he is a great fit for what we do and Shanahan has shown a desire to add another TE in the offseason. I think he will love what Keene brings.

Round 5 #163 Overall (via Chicago) - OT Justin Herron Wake Forest - Herron is a better fit here than Trey Adams would be. Herron suits a zone blocking scheme and should push Skule to the PS. We address the future at LT seriously in 2021.

Round 6 #210 Overall - LB Mykal Walker Fresno State - We had an interview with Mykal Walker and I think Lynch did an excellent job finding Dre Greenlaw last year in the 5th, Fred Warner in the 3rd and hopes to find another good LB in the 6th here. Immediately a Special Teams guy.

Round 7 #245 Overall - DB Kamren Curl Arkansas - A DB that we also interviewed and former teammate of Greenlaw, I think here we hope to strike gold with a DB with so many of our current DB's in the last year of their contract.

All in all I think here we got a real solid haul of players and factor in the extra 1st Round Pick for next year I believe we are set up very nicely for the future. What say you guys?

Outside of the trey adams pick I love all the guys you picked, good there job sir

As far as the NE trade down, I can't get down with not getting a pick this yr. I need something this year as well.

Not sure Jefferson is there at 23. I can see Minn or philly scooping him up.

Yeah Trey Adams is definitely a pick that people will either love or hate, could easily be another Joe Williams but there's a chance he can make it and be excellent.

I agree that I would like something this year too in the trade with NE but I love the idea of having 2 1st round picks next year and keeping it realistic NE wouldn't give up anything extra.

Also agree there is a chance Jefferson isn't there, of course you never really know until draft day but I can envision scenarios where he is available.

Thanks for the good feedback NY. I respect your opinion on the draft
I like the players, I think Jefferson is gone as well. Just curious, who you think Mims is going to? Also, not sure New England trades up. The only QB that will be around is Love and I think he's there at pick 23. Other than that, I do like your players. Three to four immediate significant contributors.

I don't know if Love is there at 23, I mean as it stands right now sure but a team could very well trade up ahead of NE and they have to know that.

I would project Mims going to the Raiders at 19 (after they select CJ Henderson at 12)

Thanks for the feedback good sir!
Very nice mock except for the Trey Adams pick. The Niners would not take the least athletic offensive lineman at the Combine for their system. They could so much better, especially in the 5th round.

Yikes I might have to make an edit on my Trey Adams pick, I had him penciled in for a long time but didn't even check how awful his combine performance was.

Thanks for the feedback man!

Good draft from top to bottom. They all add value to our team.

Big question for you...why does NE need to trade up? Who are they leapfrogging to select a QB? It goes against NE draft philosophy, and I'm not sure any QB outside of the core 3 is worth two first round draft picks.
Nice mock. And while I agree with the rationale behind trading for a 21' 1st, especially since NE will probably have a drop off, I worry about there possibly being no college football season

They need to trade up to secure a QBOTF. They could very well be leapfrogging Miami or Jacksonville who may want an OT or defensive stud initially then get a QB with their later 1st round pick. Can't count out a team like the Saints trading up above them to get a guy to develop behind Brees for a year or two.

I think the trade works for both teams, if NE feel they get a QB they can roll with why risk another team taking him? We get flexibility moving forward by having 2 1st round picks.

The other option for NE is maybe get a QB at 23 or else go with Stidham and Hoyer which I don't see happening

Thanks!

I am not worried about that at all and think we gotta take this deal of it comes up. Obviously we went to the Super Bowl and we have a super bowl caliber team, I just think this trade for sure makes us competitive for a long time which is what I also want us to be
