Trades
- 49ers trade #13 overall to the New England Patriots for #23 overall and their 2021 1st Round pick. Rationale: Patriots trade up for a new QB, Belichick can't possibly want to go ahead with Stidham and Hoyer. We move down, still in a position to get a good talent, and in 2021 we have two 1st Round Picks to address CB and LT.
- 49ers trade #31 overall to the NY Jets for #48 overall and #79 overall. Rationale: Jets gotta give Darnold a real chance to succeed, I say they take OT at #11 and then a WR at #31 or vice versa. We get more draft picks to work with.
- 49ers trade Matt Breida to the Philadelphia Eagles for their #127 overall pick (4th) Rationale: They need RB help and we have a surplus amount of RB's.
- 49ers trade #176 overall (5th) and #217 overall (7th) to Chicago for #163 overall (5th) Rationale: We ensure to get a guy we want in the 5th round.
Draft
We are now picking at 23 overall, in this scenario I project by the time our pick rolls around the following players have been drafted: 4 QB's, 5 OT's (Josh Jones being the 5th), 4 WR's (Mims being the 4th), 3 CB's, 2 DT's, 2 EDGE, LB Kenneth Murray and S Xavier McKinney.
Round 1 #23 Overall (via Pats) - WR Justin Jefferson LSU - Good hands, good after the catch, solid routes and a very willing blocker. Another weapon for Jimmy G to throw to. Essentially we traded DeForest Buckner for Jefferson and a 2021 1st Round pick. Not bad.
Round 2 #48 Overall (via Jets) - DT Justin Madubuike Texas A&M - We have a ton of snaps to replace with Buckner and Day gone, I do like what DJ Jones brings and I think guys like Jullian Taylor, Solomon Thomas are ok but we need a guy who can come in and play 30 snaps a game. That's what Madubuike can do.
Round 3 #79 Overall (via Jets) - C Matt Hennessy Temple - They are "hopeful" that Richburg can be available come training camp, I like Brunskill and I don't know much about Compton but my guess is we will need a legit starter at either C or RG come week 1, Hennessy has the skill set to be that guy.
Round 4 #127 Overall (via Eagles) - EDGE Alton Robinson Syracuse - Excellent first step, just needs more coaching, can come in and learn from Kocurek, Bosa and Ford, and fill in on passing downs. Ideally by 2021 could take over Ford's role as being our primary guy to bring in on 3rd down.
Round 5 #156 Overall (via Broncos) - TE Dalton Keene Virginia Tech - Similar to Kittle in that his college production wasn't great but he is a great fit for what we do and Shanahan has shown a desire to add another TE in the offseason. I think he will love what Keene brings.
Round 5 #163 Overall (via Chicago) - OT Justin Herron Wake Forest - Herron is a better fit here than Trey Adams would be. Herron suits a zone blocking scheme and should push Skule to the PS. We address the future at LT seriously in 2021.
Round 6 #210 Overall - LB Mykal Walker Fresno State - We had an interview with Mykal Walker and I think Lynch did an excellent job finding Dre Greenlaw last year in the 5th, Fred Warner in the 3rd and hopes to find another good LB in the 6th here. Immediately a Special Teams guy.
Round 7 #245 Overall - DB Kamren Curl Arkansas - A DB that we also interviewed and former teammate of Greenlaw, I think here we hope to strike gold with a DB with so many of our current DB's in the last year of their contract.
All in all I think here we got a real solid haul of players and factor in the extra 1st Round Pick for next year I believe we are set up very nicely for the future. What say you guys?
