Minion's early & dirty mock (stay with Jimmy version)

Just focusing on 49er free agents and the draft and no time to get super detailed. I think we lose Saleh so let's replace him in house or if we can land Raheem Morris let's get him.

49ers let go:

  • Dee Ford
  • Weston Richburg

49ers resign:

  • Jason Verrett
  • Jeff Wilson
  • Emmanuel Moseley
  • Kyle Juszcyck
  • K'Waun Williams
  • Kerry Hyder
  • Solomon Thomas
  • Kendrick Bourne
  • D.J. Jones
  • Ronald Blair
  • Marcell Harris
  • Ross Dwelley

Now the draft. For simplicity I say we stay at #15 and we gain a comp (3rd) for Saleh and a comp for Sanders (5th).

First 14 picks:

#1 Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
#2 Jets: Zach Wilson, QB, BYU
#3 Dolphins: Ja'Marr Chase, WR, LSU
#4 Falcons: Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
#5 Bengals: Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon
#6 Eagles: Micah Parson, LB, Penn State
#7 Lions: Kwity Paye, DE, Michigan
#8 Giants: Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama
#9 Panthers: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB, Notre Dame
#10 Broncos: Gregory Rousseau, DE, Miami
#11 Cowboys: Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech
#12 Chargers: Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech
#13 Vikings: Rashawn Slater, G, Northwestern
#14 Patriots: Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
#15 Colts: Trey Lance, QB North Dakota State (Colts trade their 1st and 2nd round pick for 49ers 1st)
#16 Raiders: Zaven Collins, LB, Tulsa
#17 Cardinals: Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson
#18 49ers: Devonta Smith, WR, Alabama

So our picks (12) end up being:

  • 1-18: Devonta Smith, WR, Alabama
  • 2-47: Nick Bolton, LB, Missouri
  • 2-55: Patrick Jones, DE, Pittsburgh
  • 3-100: Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama
  • 4-110: Abraham Lucas, OT, Washington State
  • 5-142: TJ Carter, CB, Memphis
  • 5-156: Divine Deablo, S, Virginia Tech
  • 5-165: Deonte Brown, G, Alabama
  • 6-174: Ben Mason, FB, Michigan
  • 7-205: Isiahh Loudermilk, DL, Wisconsin
  • 7-215: Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati

In Devonta we get the next Jerry Rice :). He's a pure wide receiver and what better to complement Deebo and Aiyuk with a slippery smooth route running god. Need a terrific blitzer, tackler, and sideline to sideline coverage speed? Look no further than Bolton out of Missouri. He, Greenlaw, and of course all-pro Warner are going to be the best linebacking corps in the league. With Patrick Jones we get a menace on the edge who knows how to get to the QB. With Bosa on the other side and Hyder and Blair backing up -- whoah, our pass rush is back!

Then we shore up our offensive line. We need Trent's replacement. We have that with a pass protecting elite in Lucas. In Landon Dickerson we get a heavy anchor at C who does well in the run game and pass protection. in Deonte Brown we get a 340 lb mammoth guard who will make defenders wince when we call for a run play in his direction. With Carter and Deablo we get sticky athletic playmakers who will upgrade our pass coverage. Deablo also plays like a linebacker and we can send him to the house along with Bolton for some unannounced timely blitzes. Ben Mason iis the best pure FB in college. He will willingly learn well under Juice's tutelage. Loudermilk is built like Armstead and should provide good depth. Desmond Ridder is CK 2.0 and a new toy for Shanny to play with.

This draft is premised on the belief that Jimmy G. will be our starting QB in 2021. He needs to get healthy and get stronger physically and athletically. I even think he can improve his arm strength/velocity and even deep passes. He's the entire off-season to improve all facets of his game, especially the mental, and if he commits 100%, which I believe he will, we will get the best Jimmy ever in 2021. If he flounders again for whatever reason (injury, decision making, what have you) then whatever - yeah - we'll need to move on and we'll have a great foundation in place for the next QB. But let's give him one more shot.

No way we take a WR round 1 we have too many other holes and deebo and Auyik will be fine as a pair moving forward esp with having kittle around. If we keep Jimmy take oline round one and two.
There's no way that the Niners trade out of their pick of one of the first round QB's is there. D. Smith is a great WR and I don't think he lasts to pick 18 anyway. Niners top 2 WR's are perfectly fine. They just need someone to get them the ball further than 10 yds past the LOS.

Like the picks of Bolton, Jones and TJ Carter.

Only one question about free agency. Why wouldn't you resign Trent Williams?

Yeah Smith probably won't make it and I'd think he'd be the best complement to Deebo and Aiyuk. Maybe Terrace Marshall then.

I'm sure we're going to resign Trent but he's going to cost a bunch and we can still get great value in the draft aka Lucas and others. Yeah our line would have three rookies but still an upgrade over the current iteration I feel. Might light a fire under Jimmy as well working with three rooks.

Yea so we let TW walk and replace him with a 4th round rookie? I'll pass on that idea. What's the point of Smith when Jimmy never pushes the ball downfield or to the outside?

What happened to AA?

Tbh I bet Lucas ends up being a 2nd rounder at the latest. Forgot about Arik - prolly cause we all forget about him during games :) So our defense is that much more formidable. The little spiel I wrote about Jimmy is my answer to your question. After watching Mac Jones last night I think I just might change up my first three picks now to include him.

Gonna be #11 or #12 after this weekend. Dallas, Wash, NE, MIN, and LAC likely winners.
Just don't think this team can afford another luxury at WR. They already invested so much there, and need help elsewhere. Would rather take Corner or EDGE round 1, and if the guy they like isn't there, just trade down. This offseason is going to be a retooling season. I did notice that you didn't resign Fred Warner and Trent Williams, which is going to be pretty unpopular, but may have to do one of those things at least if they really intend on keeping Jimmy

Yikes. Horrible idea. Absolute must extend that guy, best LB we've had since Willis/Bowman.

Agree with this, 49ers have spent high draft capital in the past on WR and have two studs in Deebo and Auyik they just need to stay healthy and progress. I would go back to the well in the later rounds to draft a WR for slot or depth.

Recommendation is

Jonathan Adams Jr. Arkansas State
'20 stats 79 rec, 1111 rec yds, 12 rec tds
Dyami Brown UNC
'20 stats 55 rec, 1099 rec yds, 8 rec tds

Use R1 pick on CB, R2 pick on IOL.

I'm 100% on board with D.Smith at 15, 18, 11, 12 or wherever!
Let's finally put an end to all the Bournes, James, T. Taylor, Matthews, Pointdexter, and Craycraft trash heap once and for all.

Deebo, Aiyuk, and Smith = straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
if this season has proven anything its that WR is the last thing we need.
