Geek's Mock Plan: 2022 V1

Assumptions around the league:
- Watson gets traded to WFT, Eagles, Broncos, Giants, or Dolphins. My gut is telling me Synder is all over Watson, and WFT lands him.
- LV, JAX, CHI, MIN, HOU, and DEN hunt for new HCs. CAR, NYG, and SEA could also be in the hunt.
- Wilson remains in SEA, but Carroll retires.

Coaching staff changes:
- DeMeco Ryans gets the Houston HC gig after his results as DC and LB coach. Think Mike Vrabel. He poaches McDaniel and Hightower to his staff.
- Vic Fangio becomes our DC, and brings many of his folks to run his 4-3 under scheme. Kris K remains as the DL coach.
- Rich Bisaccia becomes our ST coach. Shanahan overlapped with him in TB, and obviously a strong Gruden connection.

Personnel changes:

Resign: ERFA, RFA, DJ Jones, Mostert, T. Moore, Tartt, Willis, K. Williams ($18M spent)
Restructure: Armstead, Ebukam ($15M savings)
Release: Ford (June 1st; $7M savings)
Extend: Al-Shaair, Bosa, Samuel

Trades:
- Garoppolo for NY Giants 3rd (via MIA) and 5th (via KC) round picks; plenty of picks to spare (saves $25M)
- Street for the Jets Denzel Mims; Street no longer is a scheme fit - reunites with Saleh while we re-ignite Mims's career w. Welker (null)
- Greenlaw and two 7ths for Texans 3rd (via NO) round pick; this is a cap management move (last yr of rookie deal; saves $300k)
- 6th round (via DEN) for Packers Preston Smith - DE/LB; potential cap casualty - we restructure his deal ($8M cost)

Free Agency Targets: (~$25M to spend)

Mid Priced: Kyle Fuller (CB, DEN), Akiem Hicks (DT/DE, CHI), Tyler Conklin (TE, MIN), Andy Dalton (QB, CHI)

Low Priced: Josey Jewell (LB, DEN), Tyrell Crosby (T/G, DET), Jakeem Grant (WR/KR/PR, CHI)

NFL Draft:

*49ers trade 2nd and 3rd (via NYG thru MIA) for the Bears 2nd round pick

R2: Martin Emerson Jr - CB - Miss St (via CHI) | Day 1 starter that's a perfect scheme fit in Fangio's system. Bolsters the depth.

R3: Lewis Cine - S - Georgia (via HOU thru NO) | Sound all around player that projects as our starting strong safety.

R3: Jarrett Patterson - C/G - Notre Dame | Developmental prospect that will succeed Mack in 2023. Could play LG in year 1.

R3: Brenton Cox Jr. - DE/LB - Florida (comp via Ryan) | Oozes raw talent as a developmental SAM. Learns under Smith.

R4: Micah McFadden - LB - Indiana | Developmental ILBer that should offer upside on special teams. Excels at blitz and coverages.

R5: Obinna Eze - T - TCU | Developmental tackle that will learn behind Williams.

R5: Sam LaPorta - TE - Iowa (via KC) | TE university baby.

R7: Kevin Harris - RB - South Carolina (comp) | Developmental RB prospect that will provide depth at the position

The draft isn't bad( I really like Emerson), but I'm not sure Vic gets fired. The Broncos have a few things going for them right now. As far as our projected coaching losses I think it is a little early for DeMeco to get a HC job. Plus if I'm not mistaken we can only lose McDaniel to a HC job, that is unless we release him from his contract.

If Fangio doesn't have a strong plan to improve the offensive system, then he's gone. He could get Klint Kubiak assuming there's churn in MN. But is that enough? We shall see. They have a new GM that didn't select Fangio as the coach.

Normally, I'd agree it's early for Ryans. However, there's going to be a ton of open spots this year. He's got coordinator experience, knows the Xs and Os, elite track record of LB coach, and a well regarded former PB player in the NFL. Raiders, Jags, Texans could all be good landing spots for him.
Lots to unpack but four things standout to me which I totally support.

- Fixing the secondary is a high priority. At least 2 more CB's are needed and one SS candidate to replace or supplement Tartt.
- Niners need to address the EDGE with a new bookend to Bosa. A pick and a decent FA is a solid approach
- Niners need a KR and a new ST coach. Would love Grant on this squad and Hightower elsewhere.
- Niners will need a backup OC to eventually replace Mack and then another OG to either supplant Aaron Banks or Tomlinson if he leaves in the free agency.

Solid but not spectacular offseason.
Cant say Id be ecstatic about this offseason. I think our offense needs more speed and powerful blockers up front for Lance. Looks like our offensive line got worse and our receivers didnt get any better
