Draft Approach:
- BPA first with Need as the tie breaker
- Balanced short-term needs with long-term talent pipeline
- We will address remaining critical needs with free agents
- Expect one major draft day trade, but we will hold tight to replenish depth
NFL Draft:
49ers trade 3rd (#101; comp) and 2024 2nd round pick for Lions 2nd round pick (via MIN). 362 pts for 350 pts.
R2: Blake Freeland - OT - BYU (via DET thru MIN)
*Currently trained by Staley, Freeland is a more athletic RT that immediately starts in his rookie year. Burford and Freeland are the future.
R3: Ji'Ayir Brown - S - Penn St. (comp)
*2nd round talent but 5th round combine performance nets him in this spot. High IQ defender that will succeed Gipson in '24 at FS.
R3: Sam LaPorta - TE - Iowa (comp)
*Exudes the attributes and athletic ability to be Kittle 2.0. Slight reach, but we finally invest in his backup without the 5th round bias.
R5: Jakorian Bennett - CB - Maryland (via MIA)
*2nd round agility + speed but lack of on-field production drops him here. 4.3 guy that will learn the ropes at CB while fighting for ST snaps. Pushes Warmack and Thomas as depth.
R5: Dorian Williams - LB - Tulane
*Former safety turned LB with elite speed and innate on-field leadership skills. Competes with Fowles and Burks at LB and provides a boost on ST.
R5: Jaxson Kirkland - OT - Washington (comp)
*While experienced at LT, I see Kirkland's upside as a guard in the NFL. Competes with Jaylon Moore and others for a final spot.
R6: Matt Landers - WR - Arkansas (comp)
*Lightning quick receiver that will push McCloud for a WR role and ST role on the team. Likely a PS candidate in year 1.
R7: Keondre Coburn - NT - Texas (via DEN)
*Girthly DT with sneaker athletic ability. Learns the ropes as a PS candidate in year 1.
R7: Viliami Fehoko Jr. - EDGE - SJSU
*Local guy that provides some insurance policy and depth at the EDGE position.
R7: Chad Ryland - K - Maryland (comp)
*Competition at the position with Gonzalez.
UDFA: Tyson Bagent - QB

2) Sign Leonard Floyd (1 year, $5M base, $5M incentives)
3) Sign Trevor Siemian (1 year, vet min)
4) Sign Lonnie Johnson Jr (1 year, vet min)

I think a lot of these players will be gone by the time you have them being drafted. Looks great though.

Very true. But you never know how it truly unfolds at the end of the day. I cross-referenced my board and selections with all the big boards, mock drafts, and simulators out there. 80/20 these guys were available in the slots.

So we're giving up a 2024 second and a 3rd for Freeland? That's too rich for me.

I was initially against trading '24 assets, but think about this:
- We are projected to net two 3rd round comp picks as well as a 4th and 6th due to HC/GM hires and FA losses. And outside of the 5th we traded for CMC, we have the rest of our initial draft picks. Assuming it's a late 2nd round pick, that's not too bad for a trade up.
- We will likely have a decision on Trey Lance vs. Brock Purdy by that time. If they both perform well, we can look for aggressive trade offers in the '24 offseason to reload on some good draft picks.
- We also have a decision to make on Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. No way we can afford both, and Aiyuk's contract will be more flexible on that 5th year option.
Given all of that, we shouldn't be too concerned with a '24 2nd round pick to secure our starting Right Tackle. At least, I didn't trade up for a RB.

I'm not moving a top 64 pick in 2024, especially for someone in this draft class. You want to move any of those comp picks or anything after a 2nd then sure.
I like Freeland. I don't love him enough to do that. You can get some decent RT prospects without having to go that route.
just my two cents.

You could give up a 2nd rd pick for a damn good vet right now.

Looks good. We did similar things with the earlier picks. I had Ji'Ayir Brown and Christopher Smith available at 99-102 and chose Smith. Similarly I had Sam LaPorta gone by 99 and chose Zack Kuntz, but it could easily be Kuntz gone and LaPorta available.

You're right, you can find some decent right tackle prospects. But you're not gonna find a starter and what he did trading up with solidify our offense of line and not risk it with Colton.

I personally don't care about what trade you made you made great decisions and great draft picks. I would love for this to happen. And thank you for solidifying the offensive line right away.
