101- Eli Ricks CB Alabama Secondary is another area we've gotta add. Several on the radar. Ricks was atop the board here.
102- Jaelyn Duncan OT Maryland Yes an immediate double down at OT. In my opinion our weakest position overall. This gives us 2 guys to compete for the open RT spot. Perhaps one can man LT after Trent or we upgrade the swing spot.
155- Kei'trel Clark CB Louisville I looked long at the available DL here but the best value called for another corner. While Ricks is 6'1 and better in zone, Clark is smaller in stature but stickier in man and has in/out versatility.
170- Rejzohn Wright CB Oregon State I'm tired of needing CB year in year out. This is the year we draft the future secondary. Depth and injuries accounted for. Wright is 6'2 scheme versatile and possibly could play safety. Future starter. Shocked he was available. 2 of 3 huge areas of need addressed emphatically.
173- Jarret Patterson OC Notre Dame Whole this years Center class isn't as strong at the top it is relatively deep. Here we get our backup and future starter at Center. He can play guard as well. Helluva a football player.
216- Dorian Thompson-Robinson QB UCLA I'm a believer Trey Lance will be traded and I agree with that. Realistically Lance will be a backup for two years and leave. So here we draft a backup QB and it doesn't cost us 3 1's and a 3. Cut losses of a dumb trade, dumber pick. kid could develop on a team without super bowl aspirations.
222- Gervarious Owens Safety Houston Free safety prospect with speed. Secondary depth needs addressed.
232- Yasir Abdullah Edge Louisville 6'0 240lb speed rusher. Been tracking edge prospects at each pick and the value wasn't there. Several prospects I liked that I believed would be here in the 7th. With the recent signing of Hyder we have 12 DL on the roster pre draft. So the need isn't quite what it was. I'm of the opinion Drake Jackson is gonna have a nice year and here we add some depth in an athletic profile we don't have already,
247- Keondre Coburn DT Texas You gotta love a 340lb run stuffer from Texas nick named Snacks. Hargrove got paid and earned it but he's definitely is stronger as a pass rusher. Future base down nose tackle.
253- Chad Ryland K Maryland top kicker in the draft. Might have to take him earlier but he was here in this sim
257- Matt Landers WR Arkansas well travelled height/weight/speed athlete. 6'5 200 4.37 Landers got lost in the Georgia depth chart, spent a year at Toledo before a breakout year at Arkansas as WR1. I believe he could be a longterm replacement to Jennings despite being different player types at the position. Not sure how Aiyuk/Deebo money dictates go down. Having all our picks next year can address future needs.
overall I can nitpick any mock. My strategy coming in we're to be watching on both offensive and defensive line and the secondary. Also had TE as a priority, which I didn't hit looking back on it. Getting a kicker under cost control also makes sense. Was stoked about the competition added to our largest areas of need. Specifically OT, CB
