OTC's Merry Mock Premiere (12/3/24)

After some initial research, looking into my next crop of potential 49ers targets. Here's an early mock idea, with the plan of replacing the following players:

DE Floyd, Beal
DT Givens, Hargrave
OL Brendel, Zakelj, Banks
S Brown
TE Saubert
LB Graham

1. Mason Graham-DT-Michigan, 6-3 318 5.15
One of the top interior DL in this class. Looks like Donald at times, but some say his teammate is better. Might allow him to slip to us.

2. Antwaun Powell-Ryland-DE-Virginia Tech, 6-2 254 4.63
This kid looks like what a healthy prime Dee Ford looks like. Absolutely explodes off the edge. In a class stacked at edge, he might be available here and would be a phenomenal fit. APR is top 5 in the nation in both TFLs and sacks.

3. Sebastian Castro-S-Iowa, 5-11 205 4.48
Excellent open field tackler, versatile player who played all over the secondary. Would be a huge upgrade over Brown.

3. Logan Jones-C-Iowa, 6-3 293 4.78
Incredible movement ability and more power for his size than you'd expect. Overall a perfect scheme fit here at a massive area of need.

4. Jack Nelson-OT-Wisconsin, 6-7 315 5.17
I like what I've seen from Nelson in film review so far. His feet look well-coordinated, his movement looks good, and his anchor in pass protection is really impressive from what I've seen. Notes I've read include some inconsistency season to season, and some penalty issues in 2023, but he seems to be bouncing back this year. I think his hands might need some work, but overall, Wisconsin OL are known to be well-coached and I think he'd be a fine fit here.

5. Terrance Ferguson-TE-Oregon, 6-4 255 4.59
It might be a stretch to see him go here, but we badly need another TE. George is frequently banged up and Ferguson offers a lot of similar traits as a tough receiver and RAC threat.

6. Thor Griffith-DT-Louisville, 6-2 320 5.04
Smart guy, transfer from Harvard. Known for a high football IQ and was a consistently productive player for Harvard, with 5 sacks and double digit TFLs in the previous two seasons. This year, after jumping to higher competition, has only 3.5 TFL, 2 sacks, and 1 FF. He has experience playing 3-4 nose and 2i, so that's a plus because that's really an area we need depth. Think him being older and the moderate drop in production should still have him available here, but I like him as a fit for us, even if we change to a more Tampa 2 system.

7. Marcus Wehr-OG-Montana State, 6-4 300 4.97
Moves pretty decent, solid strength, seems a little bigger than his listed size. Needs a little development/polish but I like the traits. He seems like a good run blocker on tape, and a very smart player. Starting RG for #2 Montana State. Overall a good later round prospect who could fit our scheme.

7. Power Echols-LB-North Carolina, 6-0 225 4.55
Rangy linebacker with good tackling discipline. We badly need one of these guys for depth and special teams, and we should be able to find one in Echols or someone similar around here. How early we look for LB though likely depends on FAs available and Greenlaw if he re-signs and/or how he looks when he returns.

I'm quite big on Marcus Wehr-OG-Montana State
I have watched a lot of Montana State games as I am Montana raised. The MBAs mock on here also had Wehr as a 7th round get. I think he would be a very good pickup for San Francisco. Depending how Montana State does in the playoffs which I would assume they will make it to the final four at a minimum, Wehr will shine, and could possibly end up in the 6th

Nicely done. Only thing I would question is taking a safety in Castro before an OT is the right way to go. Could get either of the Oregon OT's in Conerly or Cornellius plus Grey Zabel in the third instead. Great value all the way through.

Thanks, yeah I'm not sure if they'll go OT early TBH. I think we have such glaring holes at IDL, LB, and IOL that I feel like they'll look there first. McKivitz has played a bit better than I wanted to give him credit for and Moore has been fine too.

I hadn't noticed you were a fan of Wehr too. I like this kids chance of being a diamond in the rough.

We definitely need a TE and LT of the future, but we also need new starters at LG, C, DT, DE, LB3, FS, and likely nickel. Not sure we want Yiadom back.

Nice job. Do you consider the hole at LB still glaring I'd they resign greenlaw ? My guess is they go ER or IDL in the first then OL in 2nd, but who knows. Been trying to think of a way they could trade for an ER lol

Not sure if you're replying to him or me on liking Wehr. I do have a like him a lot I've watched him all year.

I meant to reply to both. If you like him after seeing him a lot, that makes me more confident. I only reviewed one game, his film in the Montana versus Montana State game. That's a big game and he came to play.

I do TBH. The other four LB are part of the problem on special teams. Winters is not consistent with angles. DFF is injury prone and lacks agility. Graham has poor discipline and doesn't wrap up/bad tackling technique. Bethune is on IR.

It's a huge need because we need a new starter and better quality depth with ST ability.

I could see us going DL and OL early this time. We've gotten owned in the trenches too much. If they can't see that all these skill position picks haven't helped, that's a huge problem.

I love the 24 draft, don't get me wrong. We'd be in worse shape if we didn't hit it this well. But we didn't get any help in the trenches and most of our off-season additions (Floyd, Collins) have not been much better than average. Gross Matos looks like worth keeping though.

Nelson and Ferguson are in my V1 mock, but I have Nelson as a mid-3rd and Nelson as a 4th. Great scheme fits at positions of need.

I like all of your mock players, but I feel like we'd be out of reach for Graham and Jones. But it's the right talent + scheme fit + team needs.

My sneaky suspicion is that we'll go LB early if we can't sign Greenlaw. LB FA class isn't that impressive, and there's some good day 2 prospects that project well next to Warner.

You could be right. I can see Jones value skyrocketing to top 50 easily due to lack of quality C in this class. Makes me more infuriated we didn't get one this year..

I would do backflips if Mason fell to 11! He won't last till 14 so lose out niners!!!!
love the Ryland pick because DL is the team's strength.
With the uncertainty of Dre, I'd like to see a new Sam or Will LB to go next to Warner.
great mock.

Why not just keep Floyd? and draft some guys
Is there any chance graham is available?!? I assumed he'd almost certainly be gone by our pick.

Too early to tell. Combine can skyrocket players up the draft, possibly making him fall.
