MadDog's Final 256 Board

Laying my cards on the table, as most sites are doing right about now, here is the final full and complete draft, all 256 players.

This is not a 7-Round mock draft, although my first and second rounders specifically target most teams. After the second round, the picks simply slot into certain areas. 7-Round mocks are by nature, silly, since one pick can alter a team's strategy for the entire draft (see Michael Crabtree), let alone trades that occur.

My goal every year is to defeat all comers, and for three years straight, I have been the most accurate 7-round draft king of the world (in fact, the galaxy...my wife is currently rolling her eyes), hitting on more players being drafted than the experts who are paid for a living. I will certainly have more of the 256 draftees than Mel and Co., and it has been a nice run, but I fully expect to be de-throned this year by somebody. We'll soon see. There will be no tears if I lose out.

I have put in bold letters the players I believe the Niners would target, at the slotted area, if the team selects Michael Crabtree at number 10. If the team selects Michael Oher, it would go a completely different direction. Hence, the silliness of a player and team projection for all 32-teams in the NFL. The slot shows the general area where a player will be chosen.

If you have any questions about players, projections, please feel free to ask. I will be on the board during the draft on Saturday and Sunday, and will comment on the Niners and other teams' selection throughout.

Before the draft begins, I want to thank OTC, Jeff22, Ghost, boomer, and many others who have commented on the board this season. It has been a good run, and I couldn't have had better company and debate. My three year run could not have been accomplished wihtout your imput, and if I screw up this year, you know where I will point the finger.

Let the games begin.

P.S. In fairness to the other websites around the world who are projecting their 256 players, I will not edit this board in any way, unless someone sends me a message about a technical error (numbers are wrong, doubling a player, etc.).

just looking over our possible pick ups, if we were able grab those players I think I would have a very hard time waiting for the season to start in september. Thanks MD

Super useful -- thanks! (Though I hope you're wrong about Crabtree.)

In the minor technical error department: Jamon Meredith
Interesting board this year, the top is so fluid it is pretty exciting actually.

How do you grade your top 256? Do you just do +/- of how far each pick actually occurs from the projected spot, add up the total variance then divide by 256?

I create the board based on where I think the general area where the player will fall.
For instance, if two teams are looking for a RB in the third round, and they are drafting in the 70th and 76th slot, I have a tendency to split the pick down the middle, and project the player to go 73rd overall.

I don't grade the players on this board, since that is a completely different animal. For instance, I believe that Phil Loadholt is the twelfth best OT in this draft, but he'll probably be the 7th OT drafted overall.

There are a number of solid publications that put up a value board, where they believe a player will be drafted. Some boards are different than others. Some overvalue and some undervalue. Three examples: For some time now, three prospects had been sitting on NFL Draft Scout.com's late round draft projection: Devin Moore, Mike Wallace and Bradley Fletcher. Based on their college performances, measurables, and off-season workouts, I had all three players slotted into the 3rd round months ago. In recent weeks, NFL Draft Scout.com has moved Bradley Fletcher from the 7th to the 3rd round; Mike Wallace from 7th to a 3rd-4th; and they still have Devin Moore as a 6th-7th rounder. I have Moore as a 4th rounder.

Looks like NYJ have a deal in place with the JAGS that if Sanchez or Crabtree is there at #8 they'll swap. So it looks like Orakpo is the next best.
As always, great stuff MD!!!!
You think the raiders will pass up on Crabtree?
It works for me, I am just concerned about Crabtree's DIVA attitude and some Pro Personnel people are saying he has? I hope the Coaches know something we don't if he's the pick? But good job as always!

Good luck with the draft, bro. You've put in a lot of work.
Maddog,
You kept Maybin at about where other mocks have him, but not so Everette Brown down to #37. What are you seeing in Brown to drop him about 20 spots?
Thanks as usual. I check this bord during the two days. I'm wait for your opinion after the first day. But, seriously, do you think Cratrbee will fall to #10? Why?

I know it goes against logic, but Al Davis loves speed, and that is not Crabtree's forte. Michael Lombardi of the NFL Draft Post, who worked with Davis for years, does not believe Davis would draft a guy without a timed speed. Crab does not have a timed 40 due to his injury.

Brown is seen by most to be a one-dimensional player, simply an edge rusher. On top of that, he's less than 6'2", which is a killer for DE's who do not have blinding speed.

Does this mean he will not be a productive pro player? No. But, as a first rounder, I think people will pass.
