Waaaaayyyyy too early but one can always speculate. I feel we go D if we keep our 2 first rounders.

Agree! Can't wait for 2010

My prediction is that we end up trading one of our 1st rounders to the Chargers for Shawn Merriman after he is franchised... The writing is on the wall as AJ Smith was very eager to sign his backup to a major extension at this time last year, followed by spending a 1st rounder on Larry English 6 weeks ago. Some might even say that given their draft position, English was quite a reach at that point - taken at 16 but projected as a late 1st rounder / early 2nd rounder...

It really seems that the Chargers are prepping themselves to part ways with their Pro-Bowl OLB probably due to injury concerns and expected contract demands. Luckily we have more than enough cap space and Merriman will be 2 years removed from his knee surgery before even playing a game for us.

Additionly, we are a perfect fit as trading partner being in the NFC and Merriman would fit in perfectly as our current D-Coordinator, Greg Manusky, was his position coach during his rookie season and had a major hand in his development. Along with the fact that we possess another Terp on the squad, VD, who was admittedly very close with Merriman during their time together at Maryland until they entered the draft together in 06'.

He didn't make the mock, he just posted it from the site. And we have 2 picks in next year's draft and some people follow college football religiously, so it's understandable that people are excited about the future of this team.

Don't worry about those comments Willis...there is alway some honk who says that whenever people discuss the draft early. But you should know that there are many old timer zoners like myself who love draft talk at any time.

I am excited to see how Lawson and Haralson do in the real 3-4 we are running. I like those picks and I would have no problem with them, but I think I would rather have Mount Cody and Berry/Mays.

I don't know how good our defense will be this year, but adding those two would make one hell of a impact.

Interesting, though, that he has us passing on Colt McCoy.

Yeah I like Lawson and Haralson a lot but I actually like abowers idea of trading 1 of the picks for Merriman if they don't play up to expectations. I like the idea of getting Mount Cody and Berry too though, Mays still has to prove to me that he can make plays. If Balmer winds up working out at NT(Sando reported he's competing for the job with Franklin) we might have more of a need for a 3-4 DE actually IMO, or an OLB like Kindle(who I'm a big fan of). Heck even a CB could be 1 of the picks if Brown doesn't look like the successor to Bly(who I think has a great shot at returning to pro bowl form). I feel like their are so many guys on our D who could step up, but might not because a whole lot of them are young players who are relatively unproven(Goldson, Balmer, Haralson, Lawson, Brown) that one of those positions(OLB, NT, FS) has a great shot at being the pick. But it's hard to get a read on things this early.

As far as offense I am a huge fan of Colt McCoy, but I think one of Smith/Hill will step up and do a good job, so I dunno if we want to waste a pick on a guy who won't contribute for a few years. There are some more good WRs out there like Dez Bryant and even Arrelious Benn(I like his game a lot) but we are pretty loaded at that spot. There are some good RBs like Dwyer and Best but I'm not sure if we take one of those guys with Gore entrenched as the starter and Coffee as the projected back up. OT could be a nice pick though with Marvel Smith's health slightly in question, and him being 30 already.

There's a whole lot of different ways we could go in the 2010 draft depending on how next season plays out for sure though. I would love to be able to add a player like Merriman for sure though.

will have lots of cap to spend, plus two first round draft picks. Most likely if we keep both picks will get a top QB via trading up if smith doesnt work out cause shaun hill is a tweener guy till we get out franchise QB
what about Terence Cody what round is he projected?
No way Trent Williams is available at #22. Maybe Ciron Black, Sam Young, Selvish Capers, or Bryan Bulaga. One of them might be available. Tackles go fast.
I think we need to obtain Berry somewhere in that first.
I would be happy to get Merriman for one of those first round picks. Just gonna have to wait and see what happens.
