All the ESPN analysts said on draft day that Michael Crabtree was the best WR coming out of college. And I agree with them, only the Raiders are crazy enough to draft someone else THAN Mr. Crabtree. He should have been the first WR drafted this year just Al Davis is crazy. I say pay him the money so he doesn't go all Anquan Boldin on us and get pissed off cause we undervalued him. And with Brandon Jones getting hurt he can just wait out longer until he gets what he wants cause the 49ers have no one else at the WR position for the long term except for Josh Morgan.
not just top receiver. he was arguably the best PLAYER in the draft.
Nobody knows that right now. DHB could turn into an all star and Crabs could blow chunks. That's why contracts are usually based on where ppl are drafted, rather than on the opinions of self-appointed draft gurus.
Give him a contract larger than what a "normal" top ten pick would get, but we shouldn't have to pay him top 5 money based on purely on the idea he has more "potential" than somebody taken in front of him.
my post wasn't to say he IS going to be the best player in nfl. it was to say he was probably the best college player coming into the draft.
And I'm saying we shouldn't pay him more simply because he was, perhaps, the best college player in the draft. This isn't college - its the nfl.
I have no problem paying him more than he would have otherwise gotten for going #10 overall (its not my money), but we can't base a contract on his perceived value or his college career. That makes no sense to me.
I also have no
big proplem paying MC based on his Potential to perform in the NFL based on his past performance's in college..people get paid on poteintial all the time in the private sector....The kicker is The Company
doing the paying is the one that decides how much that person is going to recieve, and if they don't agree to each other terms ,then the Company goes out and gets some one else...in some ways I do wish we knew what the real numbers of the contract was/is, but it's good IMO,[ and a compliment to both parties] that the contract information has not become puplic.. personaly I would hate to lose That pick, [#10 in the First], but i agree with the niners front office standing their ground on this one.
