Draft Picks & Tampering

This is a Hypothetical Question.

If Mr. Roger G. finds the Jets guilty and rewards the 49ers with draft picks equal to the #10 pick, how many draft picks and which picks would we get?

For this question lets say the Jets have pick #22 in the 1st round.

Thanks

if anything we'll get a 2nd or 3rd, maybe a 5th knowing Goodell.
no one knows...there hasnt been a precedent set for this. it would also depend on whether or not we can sign crabtree. and we are all assuming tampering is proven of course. if we sign him, well then no harm done for the most part, we got our man under contract. The league may give us a 3rd or 4th i think for the trouble. If we cant sign him, i'd expect a first rounder(#10) at the least. or their 1st and 3rd...

I tend to agree with you. The real danger (as far as Niner fans are concerned) is that Goodell will construct the bulk of the penalty in the form of a large fine, which wouldn't help the Niners at all, and which wouldn't affect the "balance of competition" around the league. Most of the other owners would probably strongly pre3fer this monetary punishment for the offending team, because it doesn't affect the other 3 teams. Goodell could appear to be firm by making the fine a big number.

Now the Niners would need to get SOMETHING, as the offended team, but a 1st-rounder has too much impact on all the other (innocent) teams. A 2nd or 3rd rounder, plus the fine seems most likely. Another factor, if this affair drags out to next spring, is that the draft pick part of the penalty could well be in the 2011 draft, instead of the 2010 draft.

The Niners are more likely to get a higher draft pick by trading Crabtree after March 5, than they would be awarded by Goodell in the tampering matter. I think that the club is likely to get additional picks on both fronts.

Even if we end up signing Crabs, we should be awarded a couple (2nd and 5th) of the Jets picks, in addition to the Jets forfeiting their 1st rounder
We won't be happy with whatever happens, as I trust GODell's decision-making about as much as investors trust Bernie Madoff.

Same here.

Man that would be great.
Unless there's some solid evidence, I'm confident Goodell will find a reason not to do anything to the beloved Jets.
I think our team will be lucky to get anything in the way of extra picks...but it would be nice.

I agree. Nothing like this has ever happened so its hard to speculate.

If found guilty I think the Jets should forfeit there 1st rounder and thats it.
At this point, I think the Niners would be doing well if they are able to trade the pick for a #2 and change, and then get a third from the Jets.

I half agree. We should be compensated, after all, all other teams including the Jets, signed their 1st round picks and they are now playing for their respective teams - Except for us. Our 1st round pick didn't sign because of the Jets; so the Jets JUST losing a 1st rounder is not enough.
i want us to get crabtree and draft pick/s, thats my dream

If there is tampering and we don't sing him, we should get their first round pick.
