That's exactly what I was thinking. He played very well in preseason under center after spending the majority of his college career in the shotgun. Give him a chance.

yeah he did play pretty well in the preseason and i have to admit that when we picked him i wasnt happy about it, but i would hate for us to have wasted that pick, I dont think we should give him a chance this year but for sure next year

Having two good QBs is never a waste, Better than having zero. You can always trade one. I beleive you keep taking a QB to develop until you have a perennial pro bowler that is proven.
no solution to Qb situation means that we still suck

Drafting Nate Davis last year is a step towards the right direction. Not all QBs drafted high will pan out. Give Davis a chance. If he improves next year and Singletary notices the change, he will give Davis a shot.

I'm with ya, I don't understand what people see in the current crop of college QB's that put them ahead of Nate. Especially considering that Nate will have a full year of Pro experience by next offseason.

Nate was 2nd round value before he had a couple of bad games.

Let's not get desperate and go on a limb to select an early QB prospect. If all of the current QBs in this draft have big question marks, then we may as well focus on players of other positions that have limited question marks. Suh, Berry, etc.
Another year of Hill/Smith/Davis? If that's how the QB depth chart stacks up next season, then this team's toast already.

All the people who dont want Nate Davis just dont want to see a black qb start for the 49ers.

Mike Iupati > Baas and Rachal combined

He'd be a steal in the 2nd round if we could get him. 6'6" 330lbs. of man. He'd definitely beef up our O-line.

You have yet to see Davis play. Give him a shot before going off and drafting a QB in the 1st round in a year where all the QBs hold a question mark.

Exactly.

No we don't. That's like Baltimore passing on Flacco because they drafted Troy Smith a year earlier, and even if we draft a 1st rounder Nate Davis could get still get an oppurtunity.

Unless you have a franchise QB you don't rule out taking one. We have to scout these guys and if one grades high enough we have to take them.

We are not in position to draft a QB just to draft a QB. What a waste it would be to draft a QB in the 1st round, pay him all that money, only to have Nate Davis outperform him.

The Flacco/Troy Smith argument doesn't really work because I'm sure no one in Baltimore predicted Troy Smith to be their franchise signal caller.

Nate Davis was projected to go as high as the 2nd round but news of a learning disability as well as his mediocre performances the last two games of his college career dropped his stock. Just like all the other QBs in this upcoming draft, Nate Davis has all the tools you're looking for in a QB.

It's the exact same situation. Troy Smith was projected to be a 1st rounder slipped after the national title game (bad game against Florida not Toledo) and height issues, and was actually going to start the season before an injury gave Flacco the job.

Not a waste at all either. Quarterbacks don't lose trade value until they're a proven bust. If Davis wins the job and becomes the franchise guy the 1st rounder can easily be traded for pretty much the same value that we took him at. Or if the 1st rounder wins and Davis still looks pretty good Davis could be traded for a 2nd rounder ala Matt Cassell, Matt Schaub.

What is a waste is if we have two 1st rounders and don't even look even look at a QB despite the fact that we have one of the worse offenses in football.
