Resign -
Dre Bly - CB
Aubrayo Franklin - NT
Nate Clements - CB/S (Restructure; convert to FS)
Barry Sims - OT
Marcus Hudson - CB (RFA)
David Baas - OG (RFA)
Gone -
Isaac Bruce - WR
Arnaz Battle - WR
Cody Wallace - C
Tony Pashos - OT
Matt Wilhem - ILB
Reggie Smith - CB/S
Jeff Ulbrich - ILB
Demetric Evans - DE
Free Agency -
Stephen Neal - OG - Patriots
- Neal has been the 2nd best OG (best RG) in the league this year. He's having a career year, and with our move to a more passing attack, he'll fit right in with the 49ers. A Bay native, he'll finish his career back at home. Rachal can compete with Baas at LG, or we can move Neal at LG, and have both of them compete at RG.
NFL Draft -
R1: Trent Williams - OT - Oklahoma
- Good size and strength, Williams has had success great success at RT in his previous seasons. He's start at LT right now, but he'll move back to RT in the NFL.
Trade SF 1st round draft pick for a mid-20's and a 2nd round draft pick. A team like the Eagles may move to up snag C.J. Spiller.
R1: Jerry Hughes - DE/OLB - TCU
- We need to balance our draft to add talent and depth on both sides of the ball. Hughes will be a great asset to our pass rush. Hughes has great speed on the field, wraps up well when tackling, and provides great pass rushing ability against multiple blockers.
R2: Perrish Cox - CB - Oklahoma State
- Cox has been one of the best CBs this year. He's really good in coverage and tackling ability. Needs to work on a few fundamentals, but if we resign Bly, Cox will be able to slowly transition into the NFL.
R2: Jacoby Ford - WR/KR/PR - Clemson
- We finally address our special teams returner issue. Ford has outstanding speed and vision in the field. Potential slot WR in the NFL. Adds speed to the unit as well.
R3: Daryl Washington - ILB - TCU
- We may as well get Hughes' teammate on our team. Washington is a legit ILB prospect. He'll be a great special teams player, and insurance policy for Patrick Willis. He can also sub in for Spikes if we want some blitz in the middle. Replaces Ulbrich as he retires.
R4: Sam Young - OT - Notre Dame
- Depth pick that competes with Snyder, Boone and Sims for the final OL roster spots.
R5: Robert Johnson - FS - Utah
- Depth pick
R6: RB
R7: TE
Depth Chart -
QB: Smith/Hill/Davis
RB: Gore/Coffee/Rookie
FB: Norris/Robinson
TE: Davis/Walker/Rookie
LT: Staley/Sims

OC: Heitmann/Wragge

RT: Williams*/Young*

Sorry but i think everybody needs to fallback with this Nate to FS stuff. I would rather have him at CB b/c Brown hasn't proven or really shown us anything yet. On top of that this team really needs a true dominate safety. Moving Nate to FS isn't gonna solve the problem. I don't think the Niners will trade that 2nd pick and why in the world would the Eagles need CJ Spiller. They have Hobbs, Maclin, and Desean Jackson for returns. McCoy will take over for Westbrook. why trade up to take a player they really don't need. Plus they mostly go o line with there 1st round picks. Overall it's a strong draft and I don't disagree with any of the picks. I wouldn't resign Baas at all. He's just not a good player. Sims for back up purposes is cool with me.

Take this for what you will, but my brother works at the Rosewood Hotel off of 280 and he was talking to Ronnie Lott as someone picked up Ronnie's car and Mr. Lott thought Clements at FS was a great idea.
i know you're all gonna give me crap about an unbelievable story and secondhand info, but i'll post it anyway. it really isn't that unbelievable since I've seen steve young, al micheals and other football names at this hotel.
Btw I dig the offseason Geek.

I like the draft a lot, but I agree about the safety issue. I'd be really excited to pick up one of the top safeties if available and then go Oline.
Nate isn't washed up at CB yet.

Naw homie no need for that. Maybe I'm just wrong. I know some CB's have made the move but it's just like folks talk about it around here like it's as simple as walking across the street. you gotta have a certain mentality to play safety, and who knows if Nate will want to especially coming off injury. Plus it's just folks speculating. Maybe I'll take it seriously when I hear something from this team regarding that move. I would rather them draft a safety or get on in free agency if possible over just moving Nate back there.

My brother's account of what Lott said was that Clements was slower than a lot of WR's so if theyre gonna not start him against certain match ups, put him at FS because he has decent hands and is a physical type of DB.

True that's why he plays so far off certain WR's. whatever happens I hope they just improve and get better. And if they could ever get the secondary some pass rush.

Sims? He's doing good as a back up role but it will not last. I dont know if you've notieced but his kick-step is gone. He looks like he's back peddling. Rather have Pashos than Sims. Bad luck on what happened to him.
Reggie Smith is still young and will definetely stay.
Nate to Safety isnt going to happen. He needs to work on losing some weight and working on his speed.
Wallace is the next one in line to fill for Heitmann. No way we let him go. If we do then thats a wasted draft pick and we could have had Carl Nicks!!! The guy needs to gain some damn weight though!!

Love it, except two things:
1. Nate should stay at QB
2. We should keep Pashos

That Wallace pick is already a waste joe. And Nate isn't gonna get any faster and why does he need to lose weight. He is what he is.

I'll comment on the draft:
I have no problems with it other than Washington, as long as we landed the OG in FA. Yes, he's a fine player, but we have more pressing needs than a back-up ILB. Daryl Sharpton is just about as good as Washington and could possibly be had in the 5th instead.
I could live with the Jacoby Ford pick, although I have to wonder where he'd go if Jason Hill shines and/or Morgan gets it together. But hey, BPA is BPA. If Shipley is there, however, he's BPA over Ford easily.
Late round RB's to look at, one I think who could be the next Ahmad Bradshaw is Deji Karim of Southern Illinois. Excellent speed and elusiveness and a feature back who I'm sure is a better blocker than Sheets at the very least. He's also an extremely talented kick-returner who has ran back 3 TDs in his career. He currently has over 1200 yards rushing and 11 TDs.
