I would NOT settle on Davis by any means. I would still draft a QB in the first 3 rounds.

This team has holes o plenty. You cant just go drafting QBs every year and expect that to pay off. Just because Davis was drafted back in the 5th rd doesnt mean he cant be a player. We drafted him to play not to bust. Even if we draft a QB in the 3rd he he has to wait at least one year to do anything. By then Davis will have 2 years and will most likely out play the 3rd rounder anyway. I just dont see us drafting a qb high next year.

Well then again, I am basing my pick of a QB off Smith's horrible play. If we do make the playoffs then, I'd say no to drafting a QB. If he continues to play like crap, no doubt we are drafting a QB. And with free agency looking weak in the QB class, I'd rather us draft one then pay for one. But your right, this team does have much holes to fill, but free agency could also help patch things up don't forget about that. They way this team played Thursday, if we had better QB play, we should've smashed them 31-6. And no way am I thinking Hill or Smith is going to be around for long, that's why I'm all for drafting one right away.

Like I said before we were more aggressive at finding QB's when we had Montana and Young as our QBs then we are now with absolute sh*t at QB.

We have 3 huge priorities in next year draft and that's it. OL, Rush linebacker, and QB. There's plenty of Will prospects in the 2nd round this year. You can bet the bank that 1 of our 1st rounders will be a lineman. RT/RG does not typically carry a 1st round value. These guys can be found in the middle of draft every single season. Draft an anchor tackle in the 1st, and look for a guard thru free agency and the middle of the draft. The line will be set.

Exactly, anyone remember drafting Jim Druckenmiller in the 1st round after Steve Young had a good year.

yeah, you seem like a pretty intelligent guy.
I have afealing Smith is our qb for the rest of this year and probaly next year. His contract is very freindly and you can groom a young qb under him. This way if he is not the answer after a revamped oline you should have the guy ready to go. I havent seen enough of all the qbs but I have seen Pike play several times and he looks decent might be a good project with Nate next season.

Wasnt Young about 35 though at that point? And while drunkenmiller was drafted in 07 Youngs career ended 2 years later. It was time to draft a QB then. I really think its the play calling thats hampering Smiths play. Did you see how good he looked when he was calling his own plays? I think the niners will stick with Smith for the long haul. But thats just my opinion.

True, but Young did go to the Pro Bowl the next two years also. And who would've known his career would end in '99, due to a miss block. Point is, we didn't have to draft one in the 1st round, we could've waited till the later rounds, after all we did pass on Jake Plummer. And its not like Smith or Hill are having Young like seasons anyway.

Indeed - he posted quite the articulate, well-thought response to your post.

The guy has been a stud at CMU and would be worth a look at least. He is very mobile too. Before his small market school is dismissed, Roethlisberger came from the MAC too, as did Nate Davis.
Andrew Luck of Stanford should be who we target over the next couple years to be out QB of the future. The guy is a stud.

Have you seen him even play. He has played very well for a redshirt freshman, not just against USC but against other good teams.
Unless Jake Locker drops to us with our 2nd pick...I'm ok with seeing what Nate Davis can do.

I'm tired of 1 year wonders! I need a solid 2 or 3 years. I'm also hoping we have our QB problem solved by then.
