Re-sign
LT Barry Sims
-Sims was excellent in a backup role at left tackle. He is exactly what the team needs in case Joe Staley goes down with an injury.
CB Marcus Hudson
-Signed for depth and his special teams play, hopefully the team can add some depth to compete with him.
OLB Ahmad Brooks
-Brooks' physical abilities are beginning to translate onto the field. He could become an elite pass rusher under Mike Singletary.
NT Aubrayo Franklin
-Franklin will be tagged this off-season due to his great play inside.
DB Walt Harris
-Coming off a knee injury the team re-signs him to a minimum contract to see what he has left in the tank. His injury was during training camp giving him nearly a full year to recover. The chances of Harris being a starter again is highly unlikely but he would be very valuable as an extra defensive back.
OG David Baas
-He will most likely be a RFA making it easy to retain him. He has been pretty good in pass protection since the team switched to a shotgun based offense. He is an average guard but RFA's are nice to bring back.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Release
SS Michael Lewis
-Lewis has had too many injuries, is poor coverage, is getting older, and he is overpaid.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Draft-
1. Rams- Ndamukong Suh DT Nebraska
2. Lions- Russell Okung Oklahoma State OT
3. Bucs- Gerald McCoy Oklahoma DT
4. Redskins- Jimmy Clausen Notre Dame QB
5. Eric Berry FS Tennessee
-The 49ers trade the 13th pick, their second rounder, and their fifth rounder to get arguably the best player in the draft.
16/17. Mike Iupati OG/RT Idaho
-He could possibly play right tackle, which he would be tried at first. If that doesn't work the 49ers would fill the other need on their line at guard.
3. Javier Arenas CB Alabama
-Arenas will instantly upgrade a terrible return game. He will be the 4th or 5th cornerback to start his career with a chance to move up the depth chart if he impresses.
4. Taylor Price WR Ohio
-He has size, speed, and great hands.
6. Joique Bell RB Wayne State
-http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/thread.php?num=135039
7. The 49ers should look for a player who either has a troubled history or hasn't lived up to their potential, someone low risk-high reward.

reading this was like watching porn for me. I can sit here and tug it while I pretend I'm the guy banging this incredibly hot, STD ridden skank, but when it's all said and done, it's just a fantasy.

Man, you paint a pretty vivid (.....and horrifying) picture. Then again, if someone wants to dream, dream big!

Kansas City wouldn't trade away Eric Berry in a million years. (And that's just a tad too high for Taylor Price. Marcus Easley of UConn is a much better value there.)

It might take a fourth instead of a fifth but I think it's possible. The Chiefs are led by a follower of Bellicheat who always trades down to pick up extra picks. The Chiefs have a lot of holes and trading down would help them in the long run more than picking a player in the top 5.
As for Taylor Price, I think the 49ers would have him higher on their draft board than Easley because of his size. I think Price is not getting the respect he deserves much like Jordan Shipley.

Don't be so sure about that. Pioli loves the trade down, and last year passed on Crabtree, Curry, Raji, 3 top-tier OTs, and Orakpo--all of which were terriffic prospects--to reach big time for a pretty good 3-4 end. Perhaps D. Williams, or another prospect, will interest him more than Berry. Likely? Maybe not, but definitely possible. Billicik desciples love to trade away premium picks (see Mangini, Eric)

Jesus people....enough with the Berry love fest.
First of all it will take more than a 2nd rounder to trade up to the pick needed to draft Berry a 5th rounder is a throw away pick.
Second until we get consistent pass rush - and I mean against good teams not just the Rams or other crappy teams it doesn't matter what safety we have back there.
Notice how Ed Reed's play has dropped off big time since Suggs got hurt?
So of course we have another draft/offseason where pass rush is completely ignored.
If you guys think that Brooks will suddenly turn into Demarcus Ware you have to just look back one season to see expecting stuff like that isn't smart.
Haralson put up a big season being a situational pass rusher. Everyone got excited thinking he was the guy. He got paid and hasn't produced even close to what he did last year.
It's simple - a pass rush is a HUGE part of the defense. A team cannot continue to bypass addressing pass rush and hoping to fix it internally.
You go out and get the best pass rusher you can find who can play OLB. If Brooks comes into his own, great you have 2 very good players. Some of the best defenses out there have 2 guys who do the job well.

Are you aware the 49ers tied for third in the league for sacks?
