Karma's offseason mock

So, what the hell. The offseaon is one of my favorite times of year, so I thought I would give this a go. This mock is based on the assumption that the team will use this year to sign their own players to long term contracts rather than pursue high priced free agents. Here goes:

Resigned players:

Aubrayo Franklin- The niners sign him to a multi-year deal. They have spent too long searching for a good NT. They don't do anything to piss him off.
Dre' Bly- Sign him to a two-year deal. He knows the system, played decently well as a nickel back, a adds experience to a secondary that will be getting much younger very soon.
Vernon Davis- Get his extension done so there is no reason for him to regress after a breakout year.
Ahmad Brooks- His play warrants an extension, not just a RFA tender.
*Possibly* Patrick Willis- The best player on this team deserves an extension. He might get it this year or next.

RFA:

David Baas- re-up him for at least a year so he can battle a drafted player for the starting LG position.
Marcus Hudson- re-up him to battle for a roster spot with the drafted DBs.

Trade:
4th round pick for Josh Cribbs- He's disgruntled, we need him desperately, and there is a history of teams trading disgruntled players for 4th rounders (Randy Moss comes to mind).

Draft:

1A. OT Brian Bulaga- He's an instant starter at RT and might be the team's best pass protecter from day one.

1B. OG/OT Mike Iupati- He can come in and compete with Baas for the LG spot and at least takes over for him next year.

2. CB Perrish Cox- Good size, speed, and could push Clements, Bly, and Brown immediately.

3. S Kurt Coleman- Despite his size, Coleman is a strong in-the-box safety with better than average cover ability. He would be groomed as Lewis' eventual successor.

4. *Traded*

5. ILB Micah Johnson- His size and tackling abilities make him a good 3-4 candidate for the TED.

6. Best possible DB or pass rusher available. (Yeah, I ran out of ideas.)

7. Possibly Trindon Holliday. He's a lightning bug and he could possibly be stashed on the PS.

Alright, I ran out of steam for the last two picks, but overall I would love this offseason. Thoughts?
this line made me chuckle. giggity

The picks are okay, but no way we get Cribbs for a 4th.

Moss was coming of several unproductive years in Oakland and was widely seen as a locker room cancer. Cribbs is coming off his best year ever and (to my knowledge) this contract stuff is the only off field issue he's had with the Browns.
With Holmgren at GM I really see no way Cribbs gets traded. Especially for a 4th rd pick. Hudsen and Bass could be easily tendered as RFA's. I have a feeling Bly will test the market but if the price is right I'd like to see him back. I like the Bulaga pick, he's gonna be a stud RT.
Nice mock

I see your point, but it's not inconceivable that we could get him at this price:

1. Cribbs is a dynamic returner, but the life of an NFL return man is very short.

2. Cleveland had almost no talent on offense, and yet Cribbs still didn't see much time at WR. He is, at this point in his career, one dimensional.

3. I think Cleveland NEEDS to get rid of Cribbs. Unless Holmgren pulls off a miracle, Cribbs will probably hold out. Cleveland has needs all over the field and can't afford to leave talent off the field.
Very nice mock, love the 1st round of course. Glad we only trade our 4th for Cribbs, that's a good deal. Not sure about Cox's speed.
why dont we just trade brandon jones the bum and a 4th rd pick i would do it in a heartbeat!!!!!!
Baas is suspect -- play is uneven and he's often injured. Never lived up to his billing. How about a pass rusher?

1. Iupati is insurance for Baas. Baas has struggled with injuries, but I don't know if that's the only reason why he hasn't developed.

2. I really don't see a need for a pass rusher. Brooks is emerging, Haralson is hard-working, and Lawson is bouncing back. Additionally, Smith, McDonald, and others are increasing production. An early pass-pusher wouldn't see the field enough to make an impact right away.

I don't think this year was Jones' fault. He was injured, then Crabtree came, and he never got on the field. I expect much more next year.
I like it.

Don't think the Cribbs thing is realistic, though, especially with Holmgren coming in. They need to cash in or keep him.

Anyway, Vernon, Willis and Franklin should be re-signed. If we aren't going to be active in FA, I think we should lock them all up this offseason... let them know we're serious about retaining talent. Not getting anyone in free agency will let us frontload some of that payload. I agree that we need all of these guys... and Bly, too.

I like your draft, except I'd try for Gilyard/Arenas in the 2nd. I think that first round needs to happen (or something similar with #13 - ie. Davis, Williams) for us to be able to help Alex do more next year. Singletary is hurting big time if Alex doesn't improve. You took care of that with our first.

Thank you, I do believe locking up talent is the best course of action this year.

I put Cox in the 2nd because some say he is a better cover man than Arenas, but now I'm not so sure.
i really dont like spending 2 1st rd picks on olinemen, 1 yes but not 2.
