Why does everyone love Jimmy Clausen? Am I the only one who noticed Notre Dame not make ANY progress with him at QB?

The Rams should have traded for Tyler Thipgen. He's a player, and just has a ton of upside. Maybe a little inconsistent. But they badly need OL help in any way they can get. Look at what happened to Cutler without it...

As a ND fan who has seen every game snap he took in South Bend, I'd have to ask what exactly you were seeing ? He took major strides forward in each of his 3 years. He went from looking like hot garbage to looking like a legit top 5 prospect in that span. ND got better offensively as a whole especially this year but never got better in the W-L column due to very poor defensive play.
I suggest you go back and re-watch Clausen game tapes.

Have to get a franchise QB.

Did you also happen to notice that their defense has been AWFUL (especially this season)? You gonna blame that on Clausen?

Like I said if somehow Iupati falls to 33 they HAVE to pull the trigger, if not they should look long and hard at the top OT's available at 33 as they need RT as well (if FA yields nothing).

Didn't they draft Jason Smith?

Yes, and they had him play RT as a rookie like we did with Staley, however he only suited for 8 games due to a knee injury and a concussion that kept him out a month (he couldn't gain medical clearance). They also signed Jason Brown, so that was 2 pieces of the puzzle, however they gave up 1 fewer sack than last year. The line was ravaged by injuries (and as 49ers fans we know what that's like), but early on when everyone was healthy they played much better.

Hopefully they take Suh. Bulger isn't the answer and Null is a big question mark. I'd much rather they had a stud DT than a franchise QB.
DTs don't win games for you. The Rams are a disaster on offense. If you shutdown Jackson, they can't win.
I didn't say they should take Suh, I said that I hope they take him. A franchise QB is more of a need for them than a DT. I hope they avoid drafting a QB and waist a few years on Null. That's just one less team to worry about in the division.

1st-3rd round rated QBs:
Sam Bradford-1st round
Jimmy Clausen-1st round
Colt McCoy-Mid 2nd round
Jevan Snead
Tim Tebow-1st round (yes i know)
Tony Pike
Dan LeFevour
Sean Canfield.
At least one of these will last to the third. Rams will take Suh.
Do you really trust Snead or Pike? I'm still betting on Bradford #1 overall. Once the combine starts up and he starts impressing people again, his name will sound a lot more attractive.

Isn't this the kid with shoulder problems like Alex Smith who he talked to over the season? Durability issues? I think so. I believe it will be similar to Crabtree if Bradford still smarts.
Also, doesn't Clausen also have some concerns? Question marks over to as close to a sure thing as possible?
Nope, it will be Suh.
You know, I do hope they draft Clausen or Bradford as it will take some time for them to develop and Suh will be in the NFC North with Detroit.
Eh, I should be cheering for Clausen or Bradford. I just feel like it will be Suh like OTC.

The more I think about it, the more I think Clausen or Bradford could be the pick via trade down with Tampa who hold 2 second rounders. Tampa would love to have Suh (consolation prize for losing out on the Haynesworth sweepstakes) and it's only chance would be by leapfrogging Detroit. St.Louis would then have 3 first day picks, which could be a big help towards filling the multiple holes they have.

As far as I know this has been his only injury so far, serious for sure but it's only happened once. IF he's cleared 100% by all the doctors and has a very good combine he will be a hot commodity. The argument comes down to the future, is a franchise QB more important then a franchise DT?

The jump from #3 to #1 isn't that much:
Round 1
#1 3000
#2 2600
#3 2200
Round 2
#1 580
#2 560
#3 550
Are you referring to both round 1 and 2 as first day picks....? The schedule is different now, so I'm trying to clarify.

Yes and Tampa owns 3, 35 (worth 550 pints) & 42 (worth 480 points). Thus why I see it as a very realistic scenario and beneficial to both teams. Tampa would have to give up 3, one of the 2nds and something else (possibly a 2011 3rd round pick?)
