The Christian Ponder Bandwagon

He's smart. Finance degree in 2-1/2 years with the 3.7 GPA
His arm is strong enough to make every NFL throw
He's mobile
He's a leader
He's got the QB moxie
He's accurate..
He can take something off his passes when need be
He can make those touch passes and drop it right in the bread basket
He can drop a passes right over defenders into his wr hands
When he scrambles, his eyes stay down-field

Prime example in the Senior Bowl, I'll give you 2..

#1. He had a short slant pass that he threw right on the money that also kept his wr out of harms way. They made a point to compare that to Jake Locker's slant passes that went high and left his wr out to dry....

#2. His last TD pass.. The wr ran a medium post to the end-zone.. Ponder threw a touch pass and put it right on the wr's face mask, it wasn't even necessary for the receiver to jump... But what I liked most about that pass, is when Ponder dropped back to pass he looked to his left and drew the safety over and then came back to the right... The small things like that are HUGE!!!

Put this guy into Harbaugh's hands.. Could be something special!

Durability is my only issue with Ponder..

Von Miller/Other Pass Rusher in the 1st and Ponder in the 2nd, I would be psyched!

But at the end of the day... Whoever Harbaugh decides on is fine with me.. He's the QB Guru, not myself or anyone of us...

I love everything you have to say!!!!!!! I am a huge Ponder fan and that may be bc I am a huge FSU fan. I want him especially if it is in the second round!!!!

Bradford had injury questions also. It looks like that has worked out pretty well!!!!!!!!

Great post. I'd be super psyched if we did something like that.
I'm on the Bandwagon.......

Ponder is my #1 as well followed by Devlin then Dalton and then just because I've watched him a bit if I we had to add another name to the list I'd say Jerrod Johnson. If we go after ponder it will probably be the best situation for him because Harbaugh won't even think about playing him until he is 120% ready to go. Thus, giving him ample time to heal all his injuries and acclimate to the game.

Great post. For the longest time I couldn't figure out what QB I wanted but after I heard Harbaugh describe the QB he wanted. The first QB that popped into my head was Ponder. Andy Dalton is up there as well as a QB I like but I love the fact Ponder has already had experience in a Pro Style offense.

I've definitely been on this bandwagon for a few weeks and his solid Senior Bowl week just made me feel a little bit better about him. I to have durability issues with the guy. I honestly think that's the only reason he doesn't grade out as a first round guy right now.

I was hoping to be able to get Ponder with a 3rd round pick but now I don't think he'll last to our pick in that round unless we trade up. I have no problem spending a 2nd on him however. Even though that's been where I wanted to land a guy like Titus Young.

Like you as well I'm on board on whatever QB Harbaugh picks though. I just prefer Ponder right now.

Ponder may have a slight edge with the smarts. Stanzi may have a slight edge in arm strength. Combine and pro days should be interesting.

Harder to make someone smart than it is to strengthen their arms.

I think I'm on the ponder train :)

I not implying Stanzi is a dummy. His football IQ (along with Ponder) are both high. Another poster made a note that Ponder's pass over 40 yards have little zip. In other words he throws lame ducks that tend to float. This was highlighted during the senior bowl. On one play the deep ball required the Miami WR to come back and get it. Ponder later stated it "got caught up in the wind."
Ponder really is the right handed version of Steve Young.

I really like this guy in the 2nd round now. It would be a gamble to try and get him in the 3rd round.
Not sure if you are just looking at the stat line or what, but did you not see the wounded duck that Ponder threw and Hankerson (i think) pulled it in. It was a Ken Dorsey type floater. I don't think the guy has much arm strength at all, and those "touch" passes are just another way of saying that he threw a weak velocity pass. I agree he is pretty accurate most of the time, but if you can't throw the entire route tree like a pro, you really hold back an offense.
Looks like Ponder has enough arm strength for the NFL. He threw up a rainbow on that first pass, but he's capable of adjusting trajectory and throwing better 9 routes than that.

Christian Ponder in the 2nd round!

No way!! Steve Young was more athletic and a better arm.

To each their own, but Locker looked uncomfortable and inaccurate for the most part. I tried keeping an open mind... still will... but he further left me disappointed.

Had some issues in the 1st quarter, but looked better in the second half in the pocket once he was given time. That was one of the bigger questions about him during the week, whether or not he could throw an accurate pass in the pocket.

Well duh. Locker is a projected top 15 pick while Ponder is slated for 2nd - 3rd round.

This.

There is no doubt Ponder will hit his ceiling in the NFL much quicker than Locker will
