The Christian Ponder Bandwagon

I have been watching the workouts and Ponder appears VERY accurate with his throws. I also like the fact that he stepped up and decided to throw today instead of waiting for his pro day. He also looked athletic enough with his performance in the other drills.

I know that these shirts and shorts workouts don't mean everything, but I am impressed with what I saw from him today.
I'd be more than happy with a veteran QB running the show for a year and drafting Ponder as the long-term solution. Knowing Gailey's past relationship with/adimiration for Ponder, I just wonder if he gets past Buffalo in the 2d round if they go defense in the 1st.

I'm worried about this too. I wonder if we'd have to trade up to the end of the first round to get Ponder. The only thing that helps a little is I know Baalke will trade up to get his guy.

Yeah, I actually wouldnt mind a trade up to get Ponder. I have thought for a while that he could be our QB Of the future.

Did everyone just see Christian Ponder run the 40? Mayock said he's gonna be a great West Coast QB and they even said, like a 49er West Coast QB?? and he said yes, like out in San Franciso. Me and Mike Mayock both think he's our future....

Well he really didnt say anything about the 49ers taking him. Mayock said he fits a West Coast Offense and they asked which West Coast offense because Philly likes to throw it deep. Rich Eisen asked if the 49ers would run the West Coast and Mayock said yes Harbaugh would run some West Coast with a power running game.

Yea but I believe he was saying he would be a better fit for the WCO the 49ers are going to run as oppose to the WCO Philly or Green Bay runs. B/C they're not going to ask him to be Aaron Rodgers and throw the ball 50 times a game to win. They're going to have a strong running game and when they need him to win a game he will be able to b/c he has the intelligence/accuracy/mobility.

Found this on espn.com, they run they're own "QB Combine" I thought some of you might want to read their tests, and watch the results which will air April 14 at 7 p.m. ET.
Just a little teaser part of it that got me interested in seeing it:
Quote:
4. Mechanics Test
Accuracy and footwork are tested at both combines by a series of drops and throwing drills. The twist at Sport Science is that in lieu of receivers, the quarterback must aim at one of three sporadically illuminating rings. This drill tests the basics: reaction time, release time, arm speed and accuracy. Since the quarterback is wearing an eye-tracker, his reaction time can be calculated down to the second. When Nevada's Colin Kaepernick was put to the challenge, he locked onto his target in only 19 hundredths of a second and threw in only 375 milliseconds, making the total time from target recognition to release only 57 hundredths of a second while maintaining 90 percent accuracy. Sport Science host John Brenkus noted that Kaepernick's time and accuracy are "two of the reasons that he had a better completion percentage in his senior year than Peyton Manning."

5. Touch Test
In this obstacle, the quarterback must feather a pass over two rushing defenders into a specific target. Florida State QB Christian Ponder had an ideal trajectory of roughly 52 degrees and a velocity of 24 mph with approximately 76 percent accuracy. Ponder reveled in the challenge, saying, "As a quarterback at the NFL level, you very rarely just sit back in the pocket. You're always moving around, buying time ... you've got to move and throw on the run and receivers aren't just going to stand there. It's a very applicable drill to what we really do in a game."
Kaepernick and Ponder seem ideal for us regarding this test. Again, I do not know the results of the other QBs, but if we ended up with Ponder I would very happy. He is impressing me more and more everyday.

But the best overall throwing demonstration came from the afternoon group. And, no, the person with the impressing showing was not Auburn's Cam Newton. Instead, Christian Ponder of Florida State excelled.

That's my opinion, and it's also the opinion of draft analyst Wes Bunting of National Football Post. Bunting has Ponder rated as his top quarterback, and what he saw Sunday only reinforced his viewpoint.

"He's the best quarterback I saw today," Bunting said.

Ponder made one good throw after another during the seven sets of routes that quarterbacks threw Sunday during the combine.

How high can this guy rise? I know he has some injury concerns, but he's stood out in both the Senior Bowl and combine.

Could he become a viable option at 7 by the time the draft rolls around? I know that sounds insane- just asking.

I think Miami would be as high as he goes but that is pretty optimistic. They pick 15th. I think we still have a shot at him with our 2nd but we might have to move up 10 spots or so to make sure.

I don't think he rises that high, that would be crazy.

Ponders definitely showing that when healthy, why he was considered a 1st round pick last year had he came out. He's impressed me on the field and actually during his media interview. He seemed like he had a sense of humor when its needed and seems like he can be a leader other times.
I'd like to take him in the second if we don't get a qb in the first.

If Harbaugh chose one of those two in the first I'd be pretty psyched about it, but I don't have a favorite right now.
