If we got the 1st pick next year, do we take Luck even though we've got Kap?

Definitely. If we get the 1st pick next year it would probably be because Alex tanked and was benched, and Kaepernick stepped in and was completely overwhelmed similar to Jimmy Clausen. We aren't heavily committed to Kaepernick financially so Luck would have to be the pick. I pray this season doesn't play out this way though.

Id rather us get the first pick then go like 6-10 and end up around 7 again

If I were already rich, and someone handed me 100 mil, I'd trade it for something like real estate to diversify my portfolio.

I love how everyone has decided Luck is NFL ready. No way!! No one is. This idea that anyone is NFL ready is pure myth. If they had played for each others school (Nevada O-Line was not that good - no good WRs) we wouldn't even know who Luck is (if forced to play the Pistol) today. Kap didn't have the O-Lines that many of these top QBs have had or WRs (see Boise St and Hawaii). What is amazing about Kap is what he accomplished without a very good supporting cast. His Hawaii games were awful but many here want you to see only this aberration. He was amazing against Boise St. If we got both I think there is equal chance Kap would come out on top. Kap tends to win with a good supporting cast or not.

You take Luck, develop both and trade one for a kings ransom down the road.

Sounds like the Brady/Cassell situation two years ago.
Or Rivers and Brees

... more productive to throw him under the bus? ...before he plays a single NFL play??
More NFL ready?? You think anyone who plays a little better than in college is NFL ready?? That is why it is so hard to judge these guys. You have to make a titanic leap forward.
Luck is an automatic NFL great QB??? Kap is a project and will fade right away??
I don't think anyone knows who will excel at the QB spot ... and to act as if you do ... seems less than bright.
Prediction: Luck won't be the first-two picks of the draft 2012, most likely not top 5. Haven't seen a heralded junior do anything but drop.

If I threw Peyton Manning in Nevada's gimmick Pistol offense Kaep might fair better than him too. Doesn't mean he's a better pro qb than him.
The thing you have to remember is colleges can't account for a speedy qbs. They're forced to stop them on the ground first and that leads to easy reads. That's why Young, Newton, Tebow, Pryor dominate college football like no other, but that luxury ends once he hits the pros. The difference is night and day.
No offense to Kaep but you're probally the only person in the world who'd give him a higher grade than Luck.

Cracked me up bro.
I would grab Luck if was there, assuming there is no shutdown Corner, or unstoppable pass rusher available at the same time. I am hoping for the best from Kaep, but I fear we will keep hearing people talk about his "upside" and "athletic ability" kinda like they did about one Alexander Smith, long ago.....
(I'm a smitty fan, just saying)

if kaep's gameplay make him look like a winner, you then consider what kind of massive value you can get for the 1st pick. if an offer is too good to refuse, pull the trigger.
luck is the kind of player you could trade and come away with 4 good starters from the deal. then again, you could be trading a brady/manning.
it's all on kaep--if he shows "it."

Luck was doing it vs virginia tech, usc and other teams generally better than those kaepernick played against...and he was doing it in a pro style offense,,doesnt mean luck is automatic but it does mean (to me at least) he projects to be a better qb

Exactly.
Luck - Takes snaps from under center, went through progressions, played in Pro style offense.
Kaepernick - lined up in pistol, was not asked to go through progressions, played in Zone read option.
Does that mean one is capable of starting from day one and one isn't, no. But, coming from a Pro style offense gives you a better chance to be successful at the next level of football.
