none for me. Unless you also mean the fact that he played in Harbaugh's system as part of your statement.

Same here. I only became a Stanford fan recently because of my Harboner

I'm a ND fan. I do like him because he has shown success in Harbaughs system though...

who is an elite WR we can get?

Ruben Randle, if you guys are already stating Fleener is going to be elite why cant I state that Randle is elite?

But my point is would you guys really have a good #2 TE instead of a good #1 WR?
Whats the point when you already have VD? and Delanie is a decent #2
A lot of experts aren't even saying Fleener isn't the best TE in the draft I don't get why everyone here loves him so much

I hope Fleener is there at #30 and we don't take him. just so I can giggle a little

I'm not implying that Fleener will be elite. I'm stating that I would rather take a TE who has a history with the system, showed game breaking play ability as well block prowess rather then a big question mark of a receiver.

As I mentioned in my massive post about that ESPN article.

From 2001 - 2010
11 of 40 first round WRs have flamed out of the league by the time their rookie contract expired.

compared to just 2 offensive postion players otherwise. 1 RB and 1 OT.

A 1 in 4 chance at selecting a bust and also detailed in the article
A 1 in 4 chance of selecting a "true #1" wr with the other 2 being wild cards as marginal #2 or #3 receivers.

Much rather take BPA over a receiver in the first as history has shown how much of a risk it is to take a WR in the first. Even if its not Fleener I am advocating that we go pure BPA in the first and if its a WR then we take a WR, if its a RB we take the RB, if its a DB we take the DB and so on and so forth.

Actually I dont know how recently you've checked up on scout reports but the latest talking head chatter is that Fleener has surpassed Allen based on athleticism, size, agility and catching.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if Orson Charles pushes for the #2 TE, everyone is calling him Vernon Davis without the 4.3 speed, if he runs a low 4.6 or God willing a mid to high 4.5 I would be all over drafting him.

Vernon Davis without the 4.3 speed is not worthy of an early draft choice, lol.

Agreed! I don't know if fleener is Elite either. I just am really confident that if you plugged him into the same offense we had this past year we would be more effective. I say a lot more effective but it's just a guess. If we plugged in Randle...maybe or maybe not. I have know idea. Jeffery or Sanu or any other wr other than Blackmon because that guy looks good. It just seems very low risk to add another weapon on offense to keep the chains moving and put more points on the scoreboard. We have problems on 3rd down and in the redzone. Fleener or another great TE seems like they will be an easy solution. Problem isn't completely fixed but it also might help Crabs and Morgan as well. Grabbing a true #1 would be great but Crabtree was also supposed to be elite. JJ stokes was a great trade, Rashaun woods was picked at 25??? It just seems like a gamble?

Again for the 100th time, when the Pats took Hernandez and Gronk in the 2nd round people scratched their head. They have an amazing offense with 2 great TE's. Was 2 2nd round picks worth 2 TE's. The answer now is easily YES!
It doesn't matter who we draft in what round. We might be pissed on draft day but if the guy plays effectively and makes us better on gameday and helps us win games than that's all we need...is to get better!

So by your logic we picked Davis at #7 overall completely based on his 40 and if we hadn't have selected him he would have plummeted to the 2nd or 3rd round?

Davis' athleticism, strength, vision make him a 1st round talent alone, if someone is getting the exact same critique and is listed a 2nd rounder with the idea of him running a 4.6 ends up running a 4.5 better be worth a 30th over all pick.

Back to Fleener, I think he letting the tape and private workouts speak to his speed. On film he outruns safeties all the time and has power to bowl them over in the open field. I hope the decision not to run keeps him right where he is in the middle of the 2nd or fringe 1st depending on how the board shakes out.

The way a lot of people see it on this thread is like this.
1. VD
2. Fleener/Charles/Allen
3. Walker
And if possible
4. Byham/Reuland

I made up a mock the other day that worked out we replaced Moran Norris with a TE. Delanie Walker is not an overtly impressive TE but he is so versatile and athletic that JH loves him. He uses him at TE/FB/HB/RB - Just think if we had 2 great lengthy pass catching TEs like VD and Fleener paired with a blocker like Byham while we are able to use Walker as utility H-back.

VD, Fleener, Hunter/Gore, Crabtree(or FA :D) on the field at the same time is just scary.

Well I think most of the Fleener supporters believe that #1 WR is only going to be a good #2 receiver.

Would you rather have Michael Crabtree or Aaron Hernandez?

Wouldn't mind this move if we get Colston or VJax

If you really want the answer to these questions, you should read some of the posts in this long thread about Fleener....especially the ones by Phoenix. There are actually some very good reasons why it would be a great idea to draft Fleener...

I dont get it lol

That is the whole point... He wouldn't be a "number 2 TE"... He would be a "1B TE"....because the Niners would run a 2 TE offense as their base....

End of story, thanks for coming, good night....

Cheers!

yay for logic!

1ATE + 1BTE + 1WR(Crabtree, Morgan, or FA like Garcon, Meachem, Manningham, Royal) + Gore/Hunter + Miller/Walker would be so amazing to see on the field at the same time
