WR - Breshad Perriman UCF

Totally agree, game tape shows him getting caught vs say Devin Smith who ran like a 4.42 but plays a lot fast than that.

I have to agree on Smith. When I watched Devin Smith in games and then saw that 4.42, I thought WTF? On the field, Smith looks to me like a bigger version of DJax. He's just running away from guys all the time.

I don't know if I've seen highlights of Perriman yet, so I'm taking you guys' word for it.

How does this guy get caught from BEHIND on his highlights if he is running in the 4.2's? He plays nowhere near that. Not even in the same category. He looks like 4.5's on tape. I would not even guess 4.4 on game tape. Game speed and track speed are two different things. Plus pro days are usually hand held times and not electronic laser times like the combine. Very unreliable. I'm not sure we can even say he really ran that. He's probably pretty fast. But these are not laser times like the combine.
In one play in his highlights he gets caught from behind and still scored a td lol. The timed speed only validates what every scout was saying pre pro day and that is hes extremely fast and explosive.

And he has a 14% drop rate you can be fast and explosive, but it doesn't matter if you can't catch the ball (see Darrius Heyward-Bey). I would rather take Devin Smith over him in the 2nd with out a doubt.

i'd take Dorsett over him, as well

Drop rate isn't everything though when it comes to evaluating receivers. You can drop some balls and still be a damn good receiver. See Terrell Owens.

I feel ya, but how many drops did we see this past year I would rather have a WR that was a little slower, but catches everything than a burner who can't catch. I wouldn't hate drafting him in the 2nd but if it was between him and Smith I'd take Smith.

Perriman = Ted Ginn Jr.

uhmmmm.. I think he (Perriman) is more of a Laverneus Coles and Santonio Holmes..

Tedd will always be a Desmond Howard in my opinion.

Ginn had hands of bricks, though, ala Perriman.
I admit I've seen little of Perriman other than his highlight reel, but from what I have seen, heard, and read he is capable of making tough catches, including deep balls over the shoulder, and he catches with his hands, away from his body.

Is it possible his drop rate is more the result of concentration lapses or other factors, not innately bad hands? We've all seen the way Vernon was able to improve his catching-ability, and my sense is that Perriman is much more of a natural in this area than Vernon was.

Thoughts from the experts? I do think he'll end up a first round pick, but I'm wondering if he's in the same league as Strong or DGB.
Didn't know Brett Perriman is his dad. He was a pretty good receiver back in the '90s and combined with Herman Moore in 1995 as the first WR tandem in NFL history with 100+ receptions each during one season.

Well then, let's re-sign Crabtree.

Don't need to, Boldin dropped a bunch last year too as did Davis
I'd take Perriman over Smith all day. We already have a Smith for the deep ball, see Torrey. Perriman has a rare combination of size, strength and exceptional speed. This is the guy I hope we target if
WR is our pick after trading back in the first

Smith has probably the lowest bust potential of any WR this year. He is what he is... a deep ball guy.
