It's not a good look but teams also saw what happened to Jaylon Smith or Willis McGahee all those years ago. It can be seen as what you describe but it can also be seen as "this guy knows what's important"
He's not getting paid to play at LSU. He hasn't exactly been 100% this season anyways and sitting this game out is best for his future and his family's future.
A bad injury could ruin his future in the NFL or severely handicap it. If he's playing in the NFL he's already got at least some guaranteed money. NFL teams will understand the situation.
