QB Carson Wentz NDSU 6'5 225 Lbs

"Wentz has always tested vertically with effectiveness but seems more comfortable in the short and intermediate area with proper placement to set up yards after the catch," Norris wrote. "Don't overlook his mobility. It is similar to Blake Bortles'." Wentz will likely miss the remainder of the season with a broken right wrist. The 6-foot-6, 231-pound senior is likely headed to the Senior Bowl, however, so evaluators will be able to analyze him closely against superior competition.

One AFC North scout sees "a lot of traits that says" North Dakota State senior QB Carson Wentz "can start" at the next level.

"I like the arm talent, the size obviously stands out and he's shown the ability to think on his feet and make the spontaneous decision," The AFC North scout shared with CBS Sport's Dane Brugler. Prior to the North Dakota State prospect breaking his wrist, he passed for 1,454 yards, 16 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, with 215 yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground. Brugler currently has Wentz slated as his No.2 senior prospect at the quarterback position.

But something in the late 30s or 40s would be reasonable. Similar to what the Broncos did with Brock Osweiler a few years back. Or even what the 9ers did with Kaepernick in 2011. I think Kap's college career rate was under 60% and he was there for 5 years. But he still seems like a decent pick in round 2. Ponder and Locker drafted ahead of him were certainly worse.

If you are talking about a 2nd rounder, that ship had already sailed 2 years ago and his name was Jimmy Garoppolo which was why I was so pis*ed with Baalke. In the first place, he should have foreseen Kap's problems which I did as early as 2013 and not only did he do nothing in the 2014 draft, he gave Kap the huge contract and still didn't draft a QB this year. That's Baalke for you!

Trent Baalke gave Kap one of the most favorable contracts (from a team perspective) that I have ever seen. It's the reason we are able to part ways with him, without having much to worry about. Perhaps Baalke saw it too and made the move to bring in Blaine Gabbert.

yeah Baalke did an outstanding job of limiting our exposure to risk and bringing in someone with talent to take over in the case of a meltdown.

The jury is still out on Garrapolo. I havent really seen anything from him in preseason that makes me think "Wow, this kid is special and is really going places". he could turn out to be a big stink bomb

Hackenberg

Hackenberg

Hackenberg yuck...people need to stop with the high school 5 star recruit and combine BS.

It's all about how you play against the CURRENT competition and what your play might translate in the pros not what you did in high school.

I agree, I don't see it with this guy.
I like Wentz better than Goff.

Agree. A much more well-rounded game than compared to Goff. Also, Wentz has had more impact and is a proven winner.

Both you guys are crazy. I'm not saying Goff is the best, but he's at another level compared to Wentz.

The bolded is true. In terms of being prepared for a possible meltdown (which he HAD to suspect with that contract he gave Kap), he traded for Gabbert. You have to be realistic, QBs don't exactly grow on tree. I will say his mistake in preparing us was not taking a QB early. I think he could've had Aaron Murray in 2014 in the third round.
This guy has nothing on Blaine Gabbert IMO. Might as well go with the Gab & get better production than wasting a pick on this guy.
Mcshay has him going to AZ in the first. That is a scary place for him to go. He will sit until Palmer is done 2 years and be a beast ready to go. I have watched Wentz play for 3 solid years. Got hurt in October this year and I can tell you that I know he has vastly improved his knowledge since that time. I have friend who go to NDSU and I guess while healing he has been improving on how to read defenses. Kid is smart as hell. I would love to have him as a 9er next year. But he needs to hold a clipboard for awhile and soak it all in.
13:28 interesting comment about how the best QBs being able to make "small incremental steps" in the pocket. I think both Goff and Wentz excel at this aspect which is nice because we've had some QBs (one Colin Kaepernick) that really don't have this trait and as a result struggled big time when pressured.

It's very important that our next QB is an ace at accuracy and footwork.

Yeah, I think that's the popular thinking. But with the way QBs are valued -- I really doubt he makes it that far. I think when it's all said and done somebody will take Wentz in the top 15. It happens every year.

Too many QB needy teams.
