QB Carson Wentz NDSU 6'5 225 Lbs

Interesting read on Wentz by ESPN.

Jaws is loving him some wentz on ESPN's draft special right now. Says he's a more complete QB coming out of college compared to cam.

Jaws gives him a comp of a more athletic Carson plamer.

Lol right
I hope everyone is sleeping on Goff enough for him to drop to #7. Let Wentz go earlier due to his upside. Give me the sure thing.

I'll take either

Me too, though I'd prefer Goff by quite a ways. He's moderately less physically talented than Wentz, but he is sooooooo much more skilled. I'd be bummed if we got Cook.
Carson Wentz is the total package. I've tried to find one good comparison but his game has a little bit of everybody. He's got Cam size and athleticism. He's got Luck smarts and leadership. He's got Brady arm and field vision. IMO he's worth whatever it takes to get him on the team. If the Rams go with Goff then Baalke should find a way to move up and get him. I'm not going to hold my breath for Baalke to make that kind of move, but I think it would be worth it. I don't care what school he went to, I belive he has the skills and the character of a franchise QB.
Dude has crazy good footwork.

Man this draft is so important. If the Rams land a stud QB it will be trouble.

His footwork is one of the areas that he most needs to work on. His feet can be kind of plodding, he doesn't move them very well compared to a guy like Goff who might have feet that are a bit too frantic. He seems to have improved it somewhat but was really inconsistent throughout his season and a half as a starter, leading to a lot off target throws, especially deep down the field.

Lots of upside with him, has all the traits you want in a franchise QB, mentally everything seems to be a ++++, made some clutch throws late in big games, but there are questions about level of competition and that he played on a completely stacked team that has won 5 straight national championships, he got injured and his backup didn't skip a beat, didn't lose a game.

Also, accuracy under pressure is another concern.

Under Pressure Passing Completion % Accuracy %

Paxton Lynch 55.2 70.3

Trevone Boykin 52.4 67.3

Jared Goff 50 64.7

Kevin Hogan 50 61.2

Dak Prescott 49.6 61

Cardale Jones 43.1 60

Carson Wentz 42.4 56

Connor Cook 40.2 53.4

Christian Hackenberg 34.7 47.2

I would prefer a good guy on an average team that keeps trying and plays well, under pressure, then a Qb guy in a great team. Where his direct replacement performed just as well when injured....
Watched the championship film on Wentz and came away less than impressed. Sure his compete level is high, but his fundamentals need work, his pocket presence was mediocre and his processing speed was far too slow.

He was making few reads and when he did make a few reads they far too ponderous (no pun intended) and inaccurate.

Intelligence =/ ability to visually process information and make quick decisions.
It was vs the Browns but Wentz looking like the real deal in his first start.

He made some beautiful throws. There will be growing pains, but he is an impressive looking QB.
