DeForest Buckner DL - Oregon

All that being said, I'm really focused on improving the talent in the Oline.

I agree that the Buckner option will be dicated by FA.
Our biggest issues are on the interior o-line unless ADavis does not come back. With 7th ovr, there is not a single prospect around that is worth the pick.
According to CBS, not a single interior o-liner is worth a first-rounder, at least not an early one.

We have seen the advantage of having an above-avg d-line for years, with RayMac and Justin, respectively. We would improve our defense immediately Buckner at 5tech. I like Dial (is he a 5tech at all) but he is certainly not the answer.

I was thinking Stanley at 7 or trade down a bit, get an extra pick, and go with Decker.

However, the idea of drafting Buckner is growing on me. The big concern is Will be make it to 7?
I really want the 49ers to draft this n***a

If Davis doesn't come back Stanley or a top FA is a no-brainer...they only way I see a trade down is if Buckner, Spence,Goff, and Jack are all gone.

If they're all gone at 7, that means someone better is still available. I would be shocked if Noah is taken in the top 10. If all 4 of those guys are gone, that means one of Bosa, Tunsil, or Ramsey is there at 7 (and Ronnie Stanley who I also think is a much better prospect than Noah).

I'll be thrilled if Spence is taken in the top 6 because we'd be guaranteed one of Bosa, Tunsil, Goff, Ramsey, Jack, or Buckner. If Davis comes back and those 6 are all gone, then I could see us trading back rather than drafting Stanley or reaching for Spence. We could also look at Treadwell in that scenario.

I don't think Spence is a reach in this draft...he's a top 15 pick and it's a position we need serious help at. Our defense was on the field a ton last year and we managed only 28 sacks (29th in the league).

I wouldn't be surprised if the Bucs (9th) or Bears (11th) take him.

If he get's a A+ in his interview he's not making it past 12th IMO... Pass rush in this league is at a premium.

Although I was advocating for getting Joe Staley's potential successor sonner rather than later, I also accept the doubts by several fellow members that this is way too early.
The point is that according to MD, Stanley is a lights-out LT but he is not a very good run-blocker (Stanley won't sit around the first years on the bench but play at RT). Therefore Tunsil would be the ideal candidate for now (and perhaps later as well). Decker seems to be not an ideal fit for ZBS.

for the sake of simplicity, let's assume that Buckner will be available with 7th ovr. Otherwise, we can close this thread, imho.
Why wait for next year again, we need to package STALEY now while he can still play.. . the longer he plays for us, the lower his value will become..

hmm.. I wonder if he can play the Center position however..

The next comment you make that reveals any knowledge of how football teams play, practice, or develop talent will be your first. You can catch feelings if you want too, but taking a guy who has been a LT for a decade, has never played a down at ANY interior OL position, and continues to play LT (the most valuable OL position) at a Pro Bowl level, and moving him to C is an incredibly foolish, childish, and obtuse idea. It doesn't happen, it shouldn't happen, and it's embarrassing that someone on this board would suggest it.

what are you talking about.... Staley was tried at Center back when he couldn't cut it as a TE.. and tho he can play the Center position, he was just better suited at TACKLE..

.. and the reason why I'd like to see IF he can play center for us is beacuse I fully believe that he no longer can hold the LT position..

he's done.. he's past his prime.. and I never STATED TO MOVE HIM AT CENTER.. Try reading and understadning.. I asked the question because I've read that he once was a center for his team before becoming a bonafide LT..

He never played a down at center at any level of competition. I invite you to find a single link to the contrary. Asserting that he's done as a LT is just as foolish. He's easily a top five LT.
