DeForest Buckner DL - Oregon

Yea, agree with most that if we are set to choose between Bosa & Buckner, we're in great shape. PFF has them as the #1 and #2 players on the board. Of the "Big 7", I'd be much more concerned with taking either Jack, Ramsey, or Wentz. Jack's injury scares me as does Wentz' development needed reading defenses. Ramsey could be great, I just prefer to invest heavily in the front 7.

The fact that Buckner has a history with Kelly, and experience in this scheme would make him my top choice. He's also got ZERO character concerns, and would fit right in from day 1. A line of Buckner/Williams/Armstead, with Dial backing up all three spots could be dominant and make the rest of the defense better.

On the flip side, the depth at 5 technique in this draft is great, compared to a limited selection of OLB candidates on day 2 or beyond. if you pair Bosa with a guy like Vernon Butler or Chris Jones on day 2, then our front 7 could improve leaps and bounds. Even if they don't go that route, I feel pretty good about Armstead/Dial as starting ends if they've got Bosa and Lynch on the outside.

If Baltimore is no the board choosing between Bosa/Buckner, then I think we'll be in great shape. :)
Bottom Line Headed into this season, Buckner was a traits prospect who flashed with quickness, strength and overall athleticism, but he put those traits together in 2015. Buckner has the body type of a classic 3-4 defensive end who can control the point of attack with length and power, but he has above average pass rush potential for that position which figures to push him into the early stages of round one. Buckner has similar power to former teammate Arik Armstead, but is a much better pass rusher and has a chance to become a dominant force in the NFL.

make it happen
Make it so
I'm hoping this guy is a 49er next Thursday. Instantly turns our DL into a strength and the core (him, Armstead, Williams, Dial and Purcell) would all be young with a ton of room for improvement which is scary

I wouldn't even a hate a move up ahead of Baltimore, give up a 3rd
can anyone tell me if he was getting handled this game or if he was sticking to whatever defensive scheme oregon was running that day?

Looks like he had some trouble shedding blocks in that game. He was double teamed on almost every drop-back. Played decent in the run game.

Yeah now I can't stop thinking about it. Want Buckner as a Niner. Putting him with Armstead on the line gives us 2 freakish athletes who are great at the stopping the run and will only get better at pass rushing. Both have also played for Kelly. And the defense gets younger and gets to build together. Lynch, Harold, Tartt, etc...

Would even love it if we somehow add Jaylon Smith if he falls into the later rounds. I'm ok to sit on him for a year. He could be another top 5 talent to add to our D.

Definitely need to take him now, Mel is horrible and falls in love with prospects that he thinks are an absolute must a certain pick. To the point where it appears at times he gets visibly upset when teams pass on that guy he thinks is going to them lol
