DeForest Buckner DL - Oregon

Conklin should NOT be the pick at 7. If they get buckner and the trade back into the late 1st for conklin then that makes sense. If not, there are 2nd and 3rd round guards that fill their offensive line needs.

I think what that scout was saying is the players we have on our DL right now are better than what we have on our thin right side of the OL.

Buckner is best player at that spot if there.
Conklin could be the best need player.

Trading back a few spot to get Conklin if Buckner is gone would be idea but that can always backfire. Taking Conklin at #7 is no different than taking Arik over other players last year. That's who Trent wanted and he took him. Prob cause no one wanted to trade.

I like Conklin he's a very safe pick...I haven't heard a single report of SF talking to him at any point during the drafting process though? I would be more than happy to trade down if the big defensive players are gone and grab him.

I have a feeling NY might take him at 10 and I can't see him getting past the Lions at 16, so it would be a gamble.....Trade down with the Titans if Stanley is there and grab Conklin or Butler I'd be happy with that an a extra 2nd

That was the main reason why you would draft Armstead. Enormous upside. He was very raw and there were many more game ready players but he was seen as a guy who had Top 5 potential if he could put it all together.

Unlike Armstead, Conklin and Buckner are both seen as guys that could step in and start from Day 1.

Why not exactly? What this team needs is guys that can step in and start. Conklin gives you that and has the potential to be one of the best RT's in the NFL.

Because Conklin is reach at 7. We could trade down and get more picks and still get Conklin

Which are the type of players we will be targeting going forward b/c of where we're at with the rebuild.
ink we have a strong core with AA, Dial, Dorsey, Ian Williams, Purcell and Carradine.
Honestly, we are pretty stacked at the DL. I don't think we will draft Buckner.

Agreed. Conklin is a good player, but not a dominant one. Doesn't have elite talent worthy of the 7th overall pick. He might even have to kick inside to OG. Earliest I'd take him would be around 15, but I do like him as a prospect. Didn't Buckner beast him in their meeting this past season?

Nope. He was one of the few guys to stop Buckner cold. Stopped Bosa too.

if we want Conklin, this would be the smart move , those extra picks are like gold, since we aren't adding any players through free agency

Dude Williams in always injuried and on a one a 1 yr deal, Dorsey is 30 and injuried again plus in his last year of his deal as well, tank is now a OLB not a DE (also in his last year of his deal), and what has UDFA Purcell done in the regular season exactly???

We have TWO D lineman signed past this season that actually play and dial is making backup money for a reason.

We need a bookend RDE and a talent like Buckner doesn't roll around every year...you win in the trenches and we saw that this past SB.

Based on what? A lot of people have the Giants taking him at #10, so you're not trading down very far anymore. He could step in at RT and be one of the best in the NFL, with the potential of moving to LT in a few years.

I might have agreed with you a few months ago but I went back and actually watched him play more closely. He won his matchup with pretty much every top pass rusher he faced including guys like Bosa and Buckner. He gave up one sack all season. He has the sort of aggressive demeanor that you love to see from an OL. I'm not sure why he doesn't get more hype, he is much more athletic than given credit for and has been the model of consistency in a pro-style offense.

Nothing to justify this statement whatsoever. Williams is forever injured, the times that he is healthy seem to be a brief interlude until the next injury. Dorsey has been injured forever. Purcell is a depth guy just like TJE. Dial is a rotational DE at best, a guy who might be best suited as an NT. Carradine is a complete unknown entity right now. Armstead had a promising rookie year but needs to continue to develop.

Looking at the DL, there are basically two guys that would start for other teams. Williams(when healthy) and Armstead.

I'd say that they are far from stacked.

who's a better fit for chip's offense Stanley or Conklin? I think it would be a a reach to grab him at 7 as well.

I would go further and say draft a DE and an NT. Williams might never be healthy enough to rely on. Adding Buckner or Butler at DE and Austin Johnson at NT would bring the DL a lot closer to "stacked" status.
