Based on what? A lot of people have the Giants taking him at #10, so you're not trading down very far anymore. He could step in at RT and be one of the best in the NFL, with the potential of moving to LT in a few years.

I might have agreed with you a few months ago but I went back and actually watched him play more closely. He won his matchup with pretty much every top pass rusher he faced including guys like Bosa and Buckner. He gave up one sack all season. He has the sort of aggressive demeanor that you love to see from an OL. I'm not sure why he doesn't get more hype, he is much more athletic than given credit for and has been the model of consistency in a pro-style offense.

Actually I've seen Mocks that have Conklin going #9 overall. Man I was way off.

Would love to get this dude. Let's hope Kelly values OL and we don't end up getting Elliot or some skill position player that is not a QB.

Actually most have them taking Ronnie Stanley not Jack Conklin.

Which Kelly offense are we talking about? If it was the one that he ran his first year in the NFL where they ran the hell out of the football, I would say Conklin. Stanley has tremendous talent but I see him more as a finesse guy where Conklin is just a bare knuckle brawler that will throw the kitchen sink at you to stop you in your tracks.

During his first season in the NFL, Kelly built his success on running the ball. The Eagles averaged 160.4 yards per game during the regular season, 16.2 more than the second-placed Buffalo Bills. They averaged 5.1 yards per rush, also the best mark in the league, while being twice as efficient as the second highest rated team in DVOA.

It comes down to one or the other, both have been linked to the Giants at #10.

There have been zero reports of SF having any sort of interest in him...not saying it wouldn't happen, but Conklin was on nfl radio and talked about all the teams that he's spoke to in any sort of fashion and SF wasn't one of them.

trade down with the Giants then I don't think Conklin will be the best player on SF's board when they are drafting at 7 personally

That could mean they really like him. There's reports every year on some guys who are drafted by a team they never expected because of little or no contact with that team.

Agreed. Conklin is a good player, but not a dominant one. Doesn't have elite talent worthy of the 7th overall pick. He might even have to kick inside to OG. Earliest I'd take him would be around 15, but I do like him as a prospect. Didn't Buckner beast him in their meeting this past season?

Nope. He was one of the few guys to stop Buckner cold. Stopped Bosa too.

The game was so long ago I couldn't quite remember. If this is the case, why isn't Conklin getting more hype?

If Buckner is there I think you have to take Buckner, if he's not....well then it gets a little more iffy and a lot more interesting.

Kind of like the comments about his questionable athleticism persist even though he outdid almost every single tackle in the draft at the Combine. I think he's been pigeon-holed as a RT tackle in the NFL so a lot of people overlook him.

Yea, agree with most that if we are set to choose between Bosa & Buckner, we're in great shape. PFF has them as the #1 and #2 players on the board. Of the "Big 7", I'd be much more concerned with taking either Jack, Ramsey, or Wentz. Jack's injury scares me as does Wentz' development needed reading defenses. Ramsey could be great, I just prefer to invest heavily in the front 7.

The fact that Buckner has a history with Kelly, and experience in this scheme would make him my top choice. He's also got ZERO character concerns, and would fit right in from day 1. A line of Buckner/Williams/Armstead, with Dial backing up all three spots could be dominant and make the rest of the defense better.

On the flip side, the depth at 5 technique in this draft is great, compared to a limited selection of OLB candidates on day 2 or beyond. if you pair Bosa with a guy like Vernon Butler or Chris Jones on day 2, then our front 7 could improve leaps and bounds. Even if they don't go that route, I feel pretty good about Armstead/Dial as starting ends if they've got Bosa and Lynch on the outside.

If Baltimore is no the board choosing between Bosa/Buckner, then I think we'll be in great shape. :)

This is probably the main reason why DeForest Buckner is my top choice now that getting a QB is all but impossible. We have the chance to have a dominant starting defensive line. Let that sink in for a moment. A potentially dominant defensive line. On top of that, it would be a very young defensive line as well. This would help out our guys like Tank Carradine, Eli Harold, Ahmad Brooks, and Aaron Lynch immensely. Not to mention, we still could pick up an outside linebacker later (bye bye Lemonier).

what? outside of Eric Reid SF has at least talked to the player the drafted. He talked about all the teams that either brought him in, spoke to him at combine, spoke to on his pro-day etc and SF wasn't one of them.

I highly doubt the have to smokescreen Conklin who I highly doubt anyone is drafting him before us. Outside of Stanley and Tunsil we haven't spoke to any high OT prospects and the reason they spoke to both those guys IMO is because they are top 10 talents and they need to know about all of the players in the top 10.

Compare that to Ronnie Stanley

5.20 40, 8.03 3 cone drill, 4.90 sec shuttle

Taylor Decker

5.23 40, 20 reps on the bench press, 7.70 3 cone drill, 4.76 shuttle

I don't care about some 290 pound tackle from Bumf**k State running a faster shuttle time. Spriggs is the only top tackle that had a better combined overall performance.
