I haven't seen anything from Buckner that makes me think that he is an elite prospect that warrants a pick regardless of positional value like Ezekiel Elliot.
But it's not! Do you even know what makes a 3-4 defense go??? Jesus dude I don't want to be an ass but your soooo far off base it ridiculous. Top end DE are hard to find
Honestly, we are not going to end up agreeing on this. Elite 3-4 ends are extremely hard to find. You are absolutely right. And an elite 3-4 end can make a huge impact. However, if you are not going to have a Justin Smith, JJ Watt type player, you can find starters later in the draft.
What it comes down to is that you think Buckner is elite, and I don't. Only time will tell, and I hope you're right. I just wanted us to address other positions of need, keeping in mind how few 3-4 ends actually end up being elite.

He doesn't have active hands, but he does have heavy hands (which helps with his power moves). I guarantee when the season starts, he won't be on the field on 3rd down. That may change by the end of the season, but he's not there yet.
And I'm not saying he will be a bad player. I'm saying that his position does not warrant a top 10 pick unless you think you're getting a game changer, especially considering we spent a top 15 pick on the same position last year. Ian Williams may be our best defensive player, and we have several other positions we need to address on offense and defense.
Your sooo off base its laughable did you actually watch his games?? You know what I don't even see the pt in arguing. Have fun watching buncker on 3rd downs bud

Who did u want us to draft? Tunsil with his bong mask on? Buckner was BPA and it wasn't close best 3-4 in the draft by far!

I think there was a major drop off after Ramsey came off the board. If we weren't going to trade up for him, I would have loved to take the exact same deal that Cleveland pulled off. If we had to stay at 7, I would have taken Tunsil or Conklin, but I don't think Buckner is all that much worse than them. We were just picking at a tough spot in the draft.

Different teams value players positions differently. Every teams draft board is like a fingerprint, no two are the same. I'm sure New England has a very low value on WRS, while Pittsburgh has a high value on linebackers. We need 3-4 players period, we took the best 3-4 end in the draft. I'll take that 10 times out 10 before I risk drafting a guy just because his position historically successful on some bullcrap analytical board.

PFF reporting only 11 of his 67 QB presures last season were bullrushes.

We've gone back and forth on Buckner before, but I just personally think this was a wasted pick. If you take a defensive lineman in the top 10, he better be a pass-rushing beast. Buckner could really turn out to be a two down player. I know he had 12 sacks last year, but the way he got those sacks doesn't translate to the NFL. I haven't seen a single scouting report claim that he is an elite pass rusher. We took the two best players off a terrible defense in back to back years...
This doesn't translate to the NFL? lol
It literally doesn't...he is not going to be able to manhandle NFL guards like that. His only pass rush move is a bullrush...
Uhh ok
Right. Because no Olineman in the NFL can be bullrushed. lol
Yea not really understanding his pov.
If his knock on him is he's not ready to play on 3rd down on day 1 then that's silly. How many rookies are ready for that? Yes, he isn't skilled like Justin Smith or Seymore but they acquired lot of their moves once reaching the pros. That's when coaching and desire comes in.
I think Buckner has everything to be an elite DL in this league.

I've been calling for Buckner for a long time...I was sweating the Ravens, who could've really used him, too. When they announced Stanley, I knew Buckner was ours. I'm really stoked at an Armstead - Dial/Williams - Buckner front 3. Big step forward toward resurrecting what was a big strength on defense before JS retired & Ray Mac wore out his welcome. This young front will set the tone for our defense...you have to be excited about that.

I like the pick. I know some are very iffy on him, whereas others say he's top 3. In this division you have to win the trenches.

Please FOOTBALL GODS, let me be wrong about The Big Buck being TOP 7... he's now a 49er so I will be supporting this guy and his twin brother Double A!!

I'm gonna trust PFF on this one. They don't mess up with their DL grades and they had Buckner on a different level from everyone else.

"Buckner said many of his family members, including his parents, are 49ers fans and a 49ers flag was raised after he was selected."

PFF had Buckner and Garnett both rated highly.

Buckner posted elite numbers, and elite PFF scores playing against some really good competition this year: Conklin, Garnett, Seumalo, Westerman, Nembot, and more.
