Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson - Legit alternative to Jared Goff in 2017?

Watson is like a coach in the huddle, he is smart and understands the whole game plan and defenses (like Luck)

He brought a program to two national championship games in two years and won one. (like Luck making Stanford relevant)

To think that a few years ago no team would let warren moon play qb and he went to canada and had to light it up for years b4 an nfl team gave him a chance.

Watson drove down the field with two minutes left against the best defense in the country in the biggest game, give the kid props he is a winner

This like a mf'er

But wait how can Watson be a coach when he only reads one person per route? Shucks idk. BTW I completely agree with you.

TWICE in the 4th quarter. Simply amazing. He has top end NFL talent: arm, mobility, intelligence, accuracy, leadership, clutchness. Dude has it all.

Why not, if you've watched Watson a lot, he does have a tendency to stare down his first read.

Because I have also seen him look off safeties and throw to second and third reads. We all have tendencies but to fault someone for using a read when he sees it open is questionable.

Right , Every QB has tendencies to work on coming out of college , meanwhile I suppose that Mitch Trubisky throws passes with his back turned to the defense so they can't see his eyes

Nope he just goes through his reads, and there's video to show that too. It's like you guys just saw Watson for the first time or something.

There is something to be said for playing great against NFL caliber players consistently , how many elite defenses has Trubisky played great against ? Just curious

No no no. You don't understand. Trubisky has no talent on his offense. His RB is merely going in the 2nd round and he'll be lucky if even 5 other players end up on NFL squads.

That's at least a better argument than him having better qb vision than Watson , at least this one can be proven

I've read it. I follow these things and choose not to post unless I see nonsense. How is this irrelevant? Because it doesn't agree with your beliefs?

Just disregard the people who were pounding the table for Jared Goff, folks. Air Raid is all they understand. These people think Luke Falk is a legitimate NFL QB. There's no amount of actual top level production that will sway them.
Matt Leinart was consistent in college...

AJ McCarron was consistent in college...

You almost don't want to be consistent, you want a player who is able to learn and improve. Have it be games won, passer rating, etc. I'd take Watson after watching his last two years over any other QB in this draft at #2. BUT (a huge but) Watson and Takkarist McKinley would make a good 1-2 pick.

Two different QB's coming from two different offenses. But hey since we're on the subject why have both QB's TD/INT ratio go up? And show me a video clip or scouting article that says Watson goes through his reads on a consistent basis?

Now you don't want consistent.....oh ok. lol

Hey both won National Championships in college and they both are just tearing up the NFL too.

As an evaluator, you always want to see QBs in big moments to weigh how they handle it. Watson, in 2 NC games, was elite.

You were the one who brought up INTs going up. So I just disproved what you said by stating that Jameis INTs went up to his final season. Both stayed in their same respective offenses. Why do people's INTs go up? But what I said was irrelevant apparently.

Ever think that people who are against a prospect will create videos that discredit some players and boost others? I guess we live in a day and age that we must watch a video of someone telling me what they think and have not a thought of my own.

Watch both quarter backs, both throw a pretty ball, both look poised in their perspective offenses. One excelled at the biggest stage (twice), the other played medicore at best in his chance.

You said it best with all this QB arguments Phoenix. They all have cons, all have upside, in the end having more than one QB with upside is a good problem to have

Notable Picks

San Francisco 49ers: Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

There will always be debate over who is the best quarterback in the class, and this year will be no different. Mitch Trubisky has upside with his throwing ability but is still raw. DeShone Kizer is a serious dual-threat quarterback but has been inconsistent in his career.

Deshaun Watson has his faults, most notably with turnovers, but he is a special player.

The Clemson star finished with 420 passing yards and three touchdowns, plus 43 rushing yards and a touchdown, in the national championship game against one of the best defenses in years.

He also showcased his intelligence on the field, per Chad Reuter of NFL.com:

Throughout his career, though, Watson has shown the ability to put the Tigers on his back and make plays with both his arm and his legs. With his skill at reading a defense, he should be able to make a quick transition to the NFL.

While the Cleveland Browns need a quarterback, it's hard to pass on a generational player like Myles Garrett. This leaves the San Francisco 49ers the ability to grab their quarterback of the future in Watson.
