Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson - Legit alternative to Jared Goff in 2017?

How is Goff a better prospect? Just curious on why many think that.

In my opinion, Dak Prescott should be with the Rams and Goff should be with the Cowboys based on where they were drafted.

I'm giving Goff a break for 2016. Jeff Fisher is an idiot. Give Goff a real HC/OC with another WR and see what he can do.

I watched all his games, some live and I saw a QB with promise. If he can't turn it around under better conditions then he's a bust.

Edit: I watched all his college games and saw potential.

I'd take Watson around 8-10. Trubisky at 6-8.

I'd feel better with Watson starting from day one but I think Trubisky will be a better passer long term. The ball just flows out of his hand. The lack of experience is a concern though.

Watson has more issues IMO because he has played a lot more football. There's more tape. Maybe he's the safer pick but maybe Trubisky is the next Steve Young.

I'm not sure either is worth the no2 spot. A lot of questions.

Watson >>> 4 back ups (at best) on our roster

Dude is a stud. Championship DNA. Kyle could do wonders with this guy. He will be a Franchise QB. Tough as nails.

Just a comparison:

College Stats

Ryan 6'4" 217 - 43 G / 59.9% Comp / 9313 Y / 6.9 YA / 56 TD / 37 INT / 126.2 RATE

Watson 6'3" 209 - 38 G / 67.4% Comp / 10168 Y / 8.4 YA / 90 TD / 32 INT / 157.5 RATE

Did you note in your comparison that one guy played in a pro style offense that required him to read the whole field and the other played in a very basic spread offense? This is why its a folly to try and compare stats without context.

Andrew Luck played in a pro style offense in college and how has that worked out for the Colts? Watson is a winner!

Playing against that Alabama defense on the biggest stage and doing what he always does made it clear that the kid is elite.

Hence the reason just for comparison. Look. I'm not sure where there is a nock on the guy. He is as clean and humble as you will find at the position. All he has done is win against prime time competition and a national title against arguably the best college defense ever. You don't get QB's of this pedigree often. The kid is going to be special. I personally wouldn't like to see us pass up on him if he is there at 2.

Have you watched Kyle run Atlanta's offense the last few weeks? Matt Ryan hasn't had to read anything. The majority of the plays are spreading the defense out, sometimes 5 wide, and exploiting matchups both with play-action and quick-drop passes. Watson fits Shanny's scheme to a T.

Unbelievably biased post if you ask me. You're not sure where there is a knock on this guy.....I think you need to go back and read this thread. Watson get's a ton of credit for things that I could've sworn people say is a "team sport". The new GM coming a board should be fired ASAP if he takes Watson with Garrett still on the board. It's like winning a National Championship automatically qualifies you to be a top 10 pick in the NFL and makes you a special QB!!! Btw how are Josh Heupel, Ken Dorsey, Craig Krenzel, Matt Mauck, Chris Leak, Matt Flynn, Tim Tebow and Greg McElroy doing?

Also what makes you say Matt Ryan hasn't had to read anything? Do you think it was just easy pitch-n-catch out there, that's a pretty ignorant comment don't you think.

Players that haven't won a national championship have also struggled in the NFL so what's your point? What makes Watson great is the fact that he has all of the intangibles. He's a leader, and he is always the best player on the field.

You're not looking very closely then. The reality is that there are a lot of questions about Watson which is why there is so much division regarding his NFL prospects. He is coming out of an incredibly simplistic college offense and teams will be trying to determine how well he would adjust to typically far more complex NFL offenses. You can be super intelligent, a winner in college, set all kinds of records and absolutely none of that guarantees you success in the NFL. Watson has struggled with his accuracy, with staring down receivers, turning the ball over...etc. Lots of potential but also quite reasonable concerns that will have to be addressed.

Both Watson and Trubisky will have to prove to NFL evaluators that they can pick up and run an NFL offense at a high level. Some teams will be sold on him, some teams won't but if Myles Garrett is on the board, there is absolutely no way this team should pass up on him for any QB.

I watched Trubisky do these same thing in his bowl game against Stanford!

Have you seen Stanford defense?

Actually the better question would be; Have you seen Alabama's defense?

It was also a toothless Stanford team without McCaffrey to carry the offense.

True, but players that haven't won the national championship tend to go under the radar and tend to build stock through the Senior Bowl, Combine and Pro Days. But That's all I hear, how Watson has won the National Championship, how he threw for 400 yards against Alabama the year before blah blah blah. It's the hype he gets BECAUSE of the national championship game. What's this you say, not true, then tell me how good he played against Auburn, Troy, Pittsburgh and Florida St.? The kid is being handed a ton of undeserved credit, he did his offense no favors in a few of those games.

Much rather trade for Cousins or Garappolo than draft this kid in rounds 1 and 2.
Tim Tebow won 9 games as an NFL starter. I'll take the under on Watson winning that many in his NFL career.

He's basically a frail version of Tebow.
I'll take the over.

Are you saying Watson will be better than Luck? Luck is a phenomenal QB and comparing him to any of these QBs who are being moved up to the 1st round due to supply and demand is insulting.

You're thinking of Lamar Jackson.

Watson wins games with his arm, not his legs.

I'm not involved in these debates, just passing through... but I just don't see it anymore... Hopefully with a new coach or something (similar to Kyle who will tighten him up), but it seems like the same o'l thing with Luck. Puts up stats, but turns the ball over alot.

Heck he was getting outplayed (not talking about stats) by Hasselback (in his retirement year I believe).

I'm just saying he is a media darling, and some fans still overrate him. I just don't agree with phenomenal. I do agree with Amazing Potential.
