Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson - Legit alternative to Jared Goff in 2017?

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Cardinals are "very high" on Clemson QB Deshaun Watson.

La Canfora reports the Cardinals "could be prepared to trade up to land him this spring." Watson could end up going as high as No. 1 overall, so that would make such a move extremely unrealistic. The Cardinals own the No. 13 pick. A move could become much more likely if Watson tumbled into the 8-12 portion of the board on draft night. Regardless of whether or not Carson Palmer retires, the Cardinals need their quarterback of the future.

Or its his inability to realize his confidence can only hurt him. No need to throw at the combine. Its actually common practice for the top candidates not to throw. Im glad he is throwing because I want nothing to do with that guy on my Niners. I hope he bombs terribly. He is doing me a personal favor in this instance.

Goff and Wentz threw at the combine. Unless you are the clear favorite to be the top QB drafted, then you should throw at the combine. If you do great it raises your stock. If you don't do great, you still have your pro day.
Whatever happens with Garoppolo will strongly shape the top end of the draft. If he goes to the Bears and the Cardinals are truly interested in drafting a QB, then it's doubtful Cleveland can use their second first round pick on Trubisky or Watson. It may force them to consider QB at #1.

Or not. The Browns are unpredictable (picking Manziel over Carr and Garoppolo).

What complete garbage. How can they be prepared to trade up to land him when they haven't even talked to him yet. Forget about reviewing tape. They haven't had a single conversation with the kid.

They may ultimately have interest, but on Feb 2nd this is way too early to be thinking about trading up for anyone.

It's never too early. Lynch has already made some calls to move back in the 2019 draft to acquire 7th round picks for 2020. Championship run in 2021

Let's just say this, whether Carson Palmer retires or not, is time for the Cards to draft a QB. Now whether they will trade up for Watson or not that's another matter. But, is safe to say they will probably take a legit QB in the 1st. This time around, they won't gamble on project QBs anymore, they are not doing a Logan Thomas again.
Let's hope the Cards trade up to #1 and take Watson and we take Garrett

They need a QB for sure. But Steve Keim is not as good as people make him out to be. So, who knows what 1st round disaster he'll pull out of his ass again.

If its between Watson and Mitch, you can count me on the Watson train.

Mitch's 1 year experience is going to kill him. He's not ready, and people are propping him up just like Gabbert.

1. Nobody "propped up" Gabbert. He was picked 11th overall, and he was the 3rd QB taken. There's no comparison between Mitch and him. Mitch will go in the top 3, and he may go #1 overall.

Gabbert was a need reach, and a lot of people (including I) knew that.

After hearing what QB traits Kyle likes, essentially pocket passers who are natural throwers, you have to wonder may be Deshaun Watson will be off his list.

Nate peterman is someone to keep your eye on then.

How is Deshaun Watson not a pocket passer or a natural thrower? He is one of the best passers in recent CFB memory and can make every throw. He is very comfortable operating from the pocket.

People are erroneously trying to paint him as a running QB. He is a pocket passer who happens to have the ability to run and maneuver. Nobody is going to just sit in the pocket all game vs a team like Bama, but he is very judicious about running. He ran for half the yards he did as a sophomore and still obviously won it all.

Here's a unbiased opinion.

I don't know.

Peterman is the latest recipient of the hype train. But he went unnoticed for this long for a reason. Kyle may end up with a positive evaluation on him -- but I really doubt he'll bank the franchise on anything less that a big time trade acquisition or a top 10 draft pick.

If anything, Peterman will be his Kirk Cousins pick -- similar to what they did a few years back in Washington.

Potentially.

Though, when you consider the -- comparatively -- limited tape on Trubisky I think it's a wash between the two. Both have plenty of arm strength to make all the throws. Also, I would not underestimate Watson's ability to win an interview. If he comes across as highly coachable, measures well and throws well at the combine -- teams will look at the tape and immense success in college and ask themselves what they're waiting for.

I'm not taking anything away from Trubisky, I'd be happy to have him. But teams have less guesswork with Watson's evaluation compared to Trubisky. He's already had to play against top competition after they've adjusted to him.
