We will see what Jimmy g can do. I'm not a fan of traded draft picks for a unproven player at a especially at a position like QB.
The biggest factor for Kelly's offense is going to be a QB that fly through his progressions and get the ball right on the money to where the receiver doesn't have to adjust his route or go backwards for it, getting hit in stride and allowing him to pick up another 10, 15, 20 yards after the catch. In a lot of ways Kelly's scheme is like a version of the WCO on speed.
Coming out of the draft, what I liked about Garoppolo is that he had outstanding accuracy, a super fast release and he could get to his third, even fourth read quickly. He looked completely in control of his offense, not the flashiest guy but threw the intermediate routes, 15-20 yards out, very well and that is basically the bread and butter of what Kelly likes to do. He's not a runner but he has enough mobility to take off and run to keep defenses honest.
My preference would be for Watson, but the odds are that they won't get him and that a team like Cleveland will offer quite a bit more in order to draft him if they need to move up. With that being the case, if Garoppolo does well he is definitely worth a look. He's young enough that Kelly could still mold him but has NFL experience playing under one of the greatest QB's ever. Out of all the QB's that the Patriots have selected after Brady, to me he is the best prospect overall with the best combination of traits for a scheme like Kelly's.
