Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson - Legit alternative to Jared Goff in 2017?

Nooooo he is a bust! EJ Manuel kind!

Kizor or BUST.
Watson falling to the second would change everything.

"Jordan Palmer, a journeyman QB who trained Blake Bortles for the draft three years ago, has worked with Watson since last summer. "There's more data available on what he's going to be than any quarterback since I've been paying attention to this," Palmer says. What Palmer means is this: We don't know how North Carolina's Mitchell Trubisky or Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer or Texas Tech's Patrick Mahomes or Cal's Davis Webb would fare with a three-point deficit and a national championship on the line with 2:07 remaining. We know exactly what Watson would do. He'd march his team down the field, throw a touchdown pass and—as he did in January—win the damn game."

Did a good enough job to get the guy drafted #3 overall...it's crazy how Bortles got so lazy over the last year because he showed potential in 2015 throwing for 4,400 yards and 35 TD's.
He will be the pick. Book.it.

All the noise about Cousins. The flight by Shanahan to NC to work out Trubisky. All the talk about trading back. The fact that we signed two veteran quarterbacks. The rumors about drafting Fournette. It's not to show our hand regarding a player that we're more than happy to take at pick #2. That player is Deshaun Watson. If we showed our hand someone could offer Cleveland a blockbuster deal to move up and take him. You can nitpick any player's game. Even Michael Jordan had flaws. Was Jordan the best shooter of all time? No, but there was no doubt he would make the shots that counted. That's why I think Dabo Swinney compared him to Jordan. He has an innate ability to make the plays that count the most as did Joe, Brady, Favre, Rodgers, etc. Coming from probably the biggest Alabama fan on this forum, the guy is the real deal. He can't read defenses? He sure read Alabama's NFL style defense with NFL talent on every level of that defense. He's remarkable young man with intangibles that can't be coached or taught. His ability to read defenses will get better. His ability to call plays will get better. His mechanics will get better. He's been the best player on the field at every level and he'll do the same in the NFL. The lights won't be too bright. Sit him for two years and he'll be the most winning quarterback of this class. I see Watson winning at least one super bowl with the poise he plays with. The NFL requires all players to have "enough" athletic ability at their respective positions. It's the other stuff that separates good players from great players. Watson has that and some.

No offense dude but that is nuts. If they really want Watson at #2, they can just take him, no smokescreens needed. Nobody is moving up to #1 for any QB in this draft.
Don't be so sure. There are always draft surprises so if I'm GM, outside of pick # 1, I'm keeping all of my cards close to the vest. Shanahan is well respected around the league so if he was transparent about his affinity for any QB, it would hold some stock within league circles.

I think you are way overestimating that factor. If a QB is seen as having the goods, their body of work speaks for itself, they dont need some endorsement. There are quite a few QB savvy coaches in the NFL. If Shanahan was as high on Watson as you say, odds are that they would be too.

I'd say its highly unlikely that the 49ers take any QB at #2. Its just not a good year for it. Watson was a terrific college QB but his pro prospects are as muddled as all the other top QBs. They all have major concerns and a large transition to make to the NFL game.

This. Watson is a damned if you do, damned if you don't prospect. That kind of polarization is not going to be drafted top 2, unless someone absolutely falls in love with the guy. I see him as a mid 1st rounder at this point. I think he can be special, but at this point, his bust potential is at the same rate as his boom potential.

That's the beauty of the draft. The body of work of a player will speak to coaches differently. No one really knows who likes who, so you play poker with teams. The smoke screens may have the Bears and Jets thinking that San Fran will bypass a quarterback which will cause them to stay put. Then we can stand pat and take Watson quietly as if we were never interested. There is no guarantee that you we can get a franchise quarterback in free agency and there is also no guarantee we'll have this close of a chance to draft one next year, so I say maybe you "reach" for Watson. I don't think it's a reach because to me, he's a franchise quarterback, and I think he's better prospect than Goff. I"m not a QB guru, but if you put Goff on that Clemson team, Alabama would have broke him in half during both of those national championship games. Watson did not flinch, and that's the type of guy I want playing the most important position in football. He's unbreakable. You could also put Watson under center for the Cowboys instead of Dak and they wouldn't have missed a beat this year. Obviously, Dallas has a great offensive line, but that's why I suggest sitting Watson for two years and letting him improve while the rest of the team improves. Then at worst, he's good enough to be a rookie version of Dak, which is a playoff quarterback.
winners win and losers lose , bottom line is this guy is a winner, only 2 losses his whole college career and defeated number 1 defense in college, he will win in the nfl , and i love to have him out of any of the other qbs.

Exactly! It's he or Mahomes for me. I prefer Watson because of his body of work and his intangibles. I will say, Mahomes will light a stadium on fire if he ever puts it all together.

Ever notice how he and Tubustky look a lot alike? Tebow's best college season is also almost identical to Michelle best, I mean only season in college football too.
