True that. Baalke left us with a lot more holes on the roster than Houston had. It's good to see him ball out tho. That whole "pro style" QB mess can take the back seat now.
Take a back seat.![]()
O'Brien is calling plays to Watson's strength, he's not asking him to stay in the pocket and make that 3, 5 or 7 step drop on a consistent basis. O'Brien is putting Watson in his comfort zone, a lot of shot gun plays and play-action. Every offensive head coach has their own vision of a QB they want running their offense, Trubisky, Watson, Mahomes and Kizer just weren't it.Not saying it will happen to Watson but if he can't sling it from the pocket while looking off CB's and Safety's and going through progressions, it will be a wrap soon. So only time will tell.
+1
How many QB's have lit it up early only to fizzle as defenses catch on to what's being done?
Not to take away from Watson, he's doing what he's being asked to do and he's doing it well. You can't ask for anything more. Kudos to him. Happy for him, but is this something he can carry on long term? I hope so because the NFL needs a new batch of great QB's. A lot of guys will be retired soon.
If he can continue this long term the Texans will be contenders for a few years with that team. If not, they'll be back where they started. Well, I think they'd be contenders with average QB play so Watson just has to avoid nosediving like so many QB's have done.
