IMHO all Texans needed was a QB.

I agree with that, I think they are going to be a contender now and in the future..

True that. Baalke left us with a lot more holes on the roster than Houston had. It's good to see him ball out tho. That whole "pro style" QB mess can take the back seat now.

Take a back seat.

O'Brien is calling plays to Watson's strength, he's not asking him to stay in the pocket and make that 3, 5 or 7 step drop on a consistent basis. O'Brien is putting Watson in his comfort zone, a lot of shot gun plays and play-action. Every offensive head coach has their own vision of a QB they want running their offense, Trubisky, Watson, Mahomes and Kizer just weren't it.
Yep.....you all remember how Kap looked when Harbaugh toned down the playbook for him until teams caught on. Not saying it will happen to Watson but if he can't sling it from the pocket while looking off CB's and Safety's and going through progressions, it will be a wrap soon. So only time will tell.

+1

How many QB's have lit it up early only to fizzle as defenses catch on to what's being done?

Not to take away from Watson, he's doing what he's being asked to do and he's doing it well. You can't ask for anything more. Kudos to him. Happy for him, but is this something he can carry on long term? I hope so because the NFL needs a new batch of great QB's. A lot of guys will be retired soon.

If he can continue this long term the Texans will be contenders for a few years with that team. If not, they'll be back where they started. Well, I think they'd be contenders with average QB play so Watson just has to avoid nosediving like so many QB's have done.

A lot of his TD's aren't coming from broken plays or runs but rather strikes from the pocket.

Dashon Watson looks good, but we have Brian Hoyer who knows KS system. We needed a guy who knows the system so that the offense would be sharp from the start.

Also, Cousins will be a free agent and just like Hoyer he knows the system.

Soon Watson, similar to Kap will forget how to play football or the league will catch up to him because qb's like Watson are unable to sustain long term success. So glad we chose Thomas over Watson.

So I guess you'd rather them reach for a QB they weren't sold on?

If things continue it'll be interesting to see if our GM/HC/OC is going to admit he was wrong about his QB choices this past offseason once the regular season is over...

Why?? Shanahan doesn't prefer a QB like Watson, look at his track record......and don't say RG3 who was forced onto the Shanahan's.

Talking about the choice of Hoyer over drafting ANY of the top QB's or going into the available market last offseason

But the top QB's came from a Spread option or Air Raid, that's why I said "like Watson". Hoyer was signed to install Shanahan's offense, regardless of how the season went. Did you think with a 75% change in roster with Hoyer at QB they were going to the playoffs?

I didn't think they would be 0-4 and struggling to score any TD's.

Nah, I'm more interested in understanding why KS didn't realize Watson was a good QB and Hoyer is a horrible QB since he is a "Qb guru" you know?

FWIW, opposing teams struggle to score against our defense too, 49ers have played 4 outta four teams very close and those were division rivals. Oh and I'm sure you've seen the "49ers lead the league in drop" thread in Ninertalk right!!! If that was a rookie QB, that excuse would be thrown out every hour on the hour, but since it's Hoyer, let's overlook that.

Not sure how many times you're gonna forget that Hoyer was brought in to install his offense, not because Hoyer is the QBOTF.

Reminder: 1 million times and counting!!!
