Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson - Legit alternative to Jared Goff in 2017?

Please come back with the hot takes in 3(But probably closer to 5) years from now. Heck even 2 or 3 games from now. Watson's first game was practically identical stats wise, and he sure as hell wouldn't be putting up 5 TD games throwing to the Bears receivers.

Come back after 5 years? lol

They did not have an "identical game" stat wise. You must have missed Watson first start because if you can't tell the difference between their debut then no point continuing this conversation.

There is really no comparison between the talent on their respective rosters. Houston was a playoff team with Brian Hoyer at QB and Chicago has been terrible for a long time now.

Watson has played really well but I'm sure having Hopkins and Fuller compared to the rubbish the Bears are throwing out there doesn't hurt.

Watson just looked a lot more comfortable out there. He looks like he belongs in the league, even since his first start you can tell. Many people, including myself, said this would be the case after seeing him play in college.

We'll see if trubisky can do the same but last night

Last night the Bears defense kept Mitch and the offense in the game and he repayed them with an easy pick from with their own 20yd.

just look at their Watson's pocket awareness vs the chiefs compared to Trubiskys vs the Vikings. Maybe this dude will develop but Watson is far superior

Exactly.
Man, nobody seems to get a fair evaluation on this site. I was never on team Mitch but at least be fair.

Deshaun balled out in garbage time and made some great passes against the chiefs, and played very well against the patriots. But did you guys forget what happened week one and two already?? 102 yards in his debut, and 125 in his second game. 1 td and 1 int thru two games. Almost exactly what Mitch did lmao.

Deshaun balled out basically from the last drive of the second quarter (TD) on against the Chiefs, so I wouldn't dismiss his 5 TD performance as merely garbage time. It also wasn't his fault that the Texans D and special teams kept that game from being closer than it was. He was going drive for drive with Alex in the second half, but he didn't get any help from the rest of the Texans units making a legit comeback possible.

His "debut" was actually a second half in a game where both he and the starter each got sacked 5 times (people seem to be forgetting how bad the Texans OL is), and while the first start vs CIN was not pretty, it also bears mentioning that he played on a short week and still made the highlight play of the game with his 50 yard TD run. That's part of what makes him so special, his ability to be multifaceted as a playmaker and make something out of nothing. I agree the game as a whole wasn't pretty.

I don't think Trubisky is bad or anything, although I think the Bears made fools of themselves with how they went about getting him. I don't think he'll ever be close to DW4, but if he is good enough to be a legit franchise QB for them, then I'm sure Bears fans won't care what they gave up to get him.
Need about 1.5 seasons at least. Can't evaluate QB's on their rookie year.

Some do well for a total lack of tape and end up below average passers long term. Especially rushing QB's. They often can't adjust to defensive adjustments. Watson is a borderline rushing QB IMO. A better passer than CK coming out of college but for long term success in the NFL he's going to have to beat teams from the pocket. Thus far he has shown promise but that can change.

Some QB's sink their first year then end up being good passers long term. Some may take 2-3 years but if they're the starter two years straight with no progress that's usually a giant red flag.

Watson isn't doing anything wrong at the moment, as far as passing well and winning some games but that could change pretty fast as his career plays out. As defenses get tape on him and adjust. Right now he's playing fearless as a rookie. Driving the ball deeper downfield. He' showing that he's not intimidated by the NFL. Will this play out long term?

Some general "negatives".

All QB's have passed over 300 yards vs the Patriots this year. Their pass defense is slipping big time. Also, much of his production last game came in garbage time. There was a few deep hail mary type passes. 50/50 jump balls that Texan WR's came down with which led to TD's. I haven't watched the Titans game yet.

I want to see him play more games and will seriously evaluate him with a microscope around mid 2018, after he has put tape out there and after he has played a good amount of halfway decent secondaries.
I said on multiple occasions that he was the 'scared if we take him and scared if we don't' draftee... looking like we may have passed on a good one...

We cannot do that again in the next draft. I think Lynch and Shanahan know that too.

None of the QB's coming out this year have that "It" factor that Watson oozes.

watson would suck in SF. No interior line and wouldn't have the weapons here that he has in houston.
Why is the Kizer thread in "NFL talk", but this thread is still in here? Anyways looks like the kid is having another nice game. Its the browns though. I'd expect nothing less.
Another TD pass. 3 on the day so far.
First rookie QB in Super Bowl era to throw 3 TDs in three straight games. Did make a rookie mistake on a pick six, but otherwise looked good again. He had a perfect bomb to Fuller that was dropped. His downfield accuracy looks great again including the 39 yarder to Fuller in first half.
