Hard to go back thru this thread. I was a strong advocate of taking him #2 if they couldn't trade back. Huge fan of his from his Clemson days and continue to root for him in Houston.
One can dream of a redemption story, but still wish we can turn back the clock and draft this kid.

Johnny Football had a ton of legit red flags, though. DW4 had no red flags except the made-up "arm velocity" crap.

I see this trade thing is a pseudo-rumor. Well, while the 49ers might have a realistic if small shot at trading for Stafford, I just cannot fathom in any world that a team would trade a QB this good and this young as Watson. There is just no way. He just hit 4300 yards, 33 TDs and 7 INTs. There's just no way. This is the pipiest of pipe dreams.

Why was his arm velocity red flag crap?

I'm not comparing them Watson is clearly better. Just saying there's reasons scouts coaches and GM overthink things.

Why was his arm velocity red flag crap?
In the combine his pass velocity wasn't all that great.
However...

In particular:
"But even granting that arm strength does matter in some circumstances, it is not clear that the radar gun measurements are an accurate indicator of arm strength. The quarterbacks are not competing in a "velocity drill" where they are trying to throw the ball as hard as possible. The measurements are taken incidentally during general throwing drills. "

Oh I understand what he was talking about. As a Mac Jones fan just wanted to hear why ball velocity is crap.
Even though I'm not suggesting the gentleman I quoted has any concern about Mac Jones. Was just asking

Anyone who watched Watson in college knew he had a great arm, and we've seen that time and time again as a pro. He always had plenty of pop in his arm, so the radar gun nerds had no idea what they were talking about on this one. Literally nobody who watched him at Clemson ever said that he had a weak or suspect arm.

Caserio was in NE when they drafted Jimmy G. #12, 2022 first rounder and Jimmy G for Watson? Gets Watson out of the AFC and our 2022 first rounder next year is probably a late pick if we have Watson and remain healthy.

Also how trading up and giving up too much draft capital was a mistake 🤔
I remember that lmfao sometimes there is too much time during draft season and people overthink on the tiniest details. Dude is just a flat out baller.
Johnny Manziel was a flat out baller too. That's why overthinking became a thing
Oh hell no I would never compare manziel to Watson as nfl prospects. His red flags were obvious.

Don't see that happening. Houston will probably want more draft picks than that.
Jimmy has a no trade clause so he has to agree to a trade, and in any case Texans can't afford to pay Watson's dead money AND Jimmy 24-25mil on top of that.

I'd throw in a second and take on a contract to make it work if that is what it took. I'm not willing to go 3 first rounders though.Originally posted by JaggedJ:Originally posted by Wolf_Packer_53:Caserio was in NE when they drafted Jimmy G. #12, 2022 first rounder and Jimmy G for Watson? Hell, swap qb's but they MUST take that guy we took at #2 instead of your guy lol. At this stage in Shanny's career, he can be stubborn but not ignorant to entertain this. I'm sure with connections, players and agents "informally" recruiting one another is common practice.
Their price is their price and the draft is always a gamble. Our constant success on the middle and tail end of the draft leads me to believe we have to keep Adam Peters at all cost. He's the guy who flies up to watch them and say hi. Look at that hot mess in Denver.
It's going to be an interesting off-season. Lets just not repeat the top end draft picks in 2017 (after all, we got kittle and dj jones).

Too bad Bill O'brien no longer coaches this team. We could have given him a couple of second rounders for DW
