Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson - Legit alternative to Jared Goff in 2017?

.@PFF laid out a hypothetical trade for Deshaun Watson that had the #49ers sending their 2021 1st, 2022 1st, 2023 1st, 2021 2nd, and Jimmy Garoppolo to the Texans for the QB.

So if doing that put SF in the super bowl 4-5 times over Watson's tenure here (say it's 8 years), you wouldn't do it? Sign me the hell up. No draft pick will have that much impact. None. Its a gamble, yes. How often do top 5 QBs become available?
Should've traded for him when BoB was still there. We could've fleeced them
No chance this happens as much as I wish it would. Caserio and the owner both came out in a press conference preaching their love for Watson. He'd have to hold out and he just got paid what, the second largest contract in NFL history or something like that. Nice pipe dream for a day.

Time to wake up and move to Mac Jones thread
I would do 2021, 2022, 2023 first rounders and Jimmy.
Also, Watson would have to re-do his contract:

This guy is underated. Think of what Shanahan could do with his offense. No Brainer.
Deshaun with Deebo, Aiyuk, Kittle coordinated by Kyle Shanahan is better than he has ever had. f**k you could even bring Will Fuller on a cheap deal since they have rapport.
But you need to keep Adam Peters so you can keep finding value in day 2 - 3 draft picks. If Deshaun comes you're picking in the 30s and those first round picks value is almost a second

Haven't heard about Watson's love for Caserio or the owner or the Texans. Hmm

I don't think this will happen for us... but the drama and fighting for him on both sides will be entertaining!
Ultimately, I'm pretty sure the Jets could offer a more lucrative package to the Texans. They hold the #2 overall pick, Seattle's first rounder this year and next year, and if the Texans are interested... Sam Darnold.

But the question is... trade multiple Day 1 picks to upgrade a good, occasionally great, but possibly injury-prone Jimmy Garoppolo for a younger QB that is entering into the prime of his career and posted top 5 numbers within the league?

My gut feeling is "No." But it's something to think about though. A franchise QB like Deshaun Watson at his age and stage of his career does not regularly become available on the trade market. It's something to think about. We'd definitely give up a tremendous amount and there's great risk... But the reward is that you'd end up with a Franchise QB for the next 10 years, with Shanahan as his signal-caller. The current roster already has offensive weapons. You can potentially win now and you have to hope that you draft well in the mid-rounds for the next couple years.

If we were to do it... it would mean that our immediate priorities are to retool the secondary and offensive line. Our MO has never been to draft those positions high anyway, so it's entirely possible.

I find it incredibly unlikely we can do this / would want to do this. I think we can return to SB contention without having to do such an aggressive move. Plus, Jimmy's NTC could nix this very easily. If Deshaun Watson, franchise QB, could only muster 4 wins with the Texans... and they just fired their HC/GM, that's the exact place Jimmy does NOT want to go to.

Except Watson can veto any trade, why would he approve going to a team devoid of offensive talent and smack dab in the middle of a full scale rebuild?

Normally I can see why Watson wouldn't go to the Jets. In this case, you have to wait and see who the new HC is. Maybe they hire a guy that Watson likes.and maybe he just wants out of Houston. They seem to be rebuilding too as they start unloading salaries.

They wouldn't have a a 4-12 record with Watson, so this makes no sense. You're basically saying Mullens is better than him then lol.

Last I checked our HC isn't Crennel/O'Brien and we actually have some talent on our roster.

Texans had the 13th overall offense and 30th overall defense lol.

Talent is talent and Watson is on another planet compared to Jimmy jim jam.

People still using winning % as a QB stat

I think you miss the point I was trying to make.
This whole thing makes me sad. I've never been that guy but the idea of trading for Watson for a huge price when we could've had him at number 3 overall and it would not have been an overdraft AT THE TIME.

I think after 4 years of what we have had as well as what Kirk Cousins has produced has to have changed Kyle's mind on QB evaluation.

I know what you mean but at the time they were trying to build that defensive line and Thomas was highly rated that year. I know he's been a bust but they were drafting what they thought was going to be a good versatile player. Mahomes and Watson went 10th and 12th so there are some other teams wishing they had a do over too, especially Chicago who drafted Trubisky #2 overall.
Man...three 1st round picks and Garappolo for Watson? I think I would rather use two first rounders to trade up for Fields or Wilson and roll into 2021 with Garappolo & the rookie QB.
