Easily ran the fastest 40 at the position and had the best broad jump (10-2), too. "Any elite quarterback, he'll test as well as them," said another scout. "His confidence was shot at Florida. It did take a toll on him. He's still developing but there's a huge ceiling."

This is the guy I want as a 49er, I hope Baalke and Kelly are interested. Late 3rd or 4th round I think is a safe bet to where to take him.
no 3rd, but 4th would be fine
An NFL scout speaking with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel declared that Louisiana Tech QB Jeff Driskel is "more talented than [Connor] Cook."

I'm just not so sure about this Driskel kid. Wasnt he benched for Theon Harris, probably the worst QB in college? Harris was horrid.

Sounds like a Red Flag to me. A potential confidence issue for an NFL caliber QB?

Thank you, No.

Could you blame him, he was mishandled about as badly as a QB can be.
I've got him as my number five QB right now, with great value from the fourth on.

I don't think we should go thrift store shopping with QBs.

If the scouts don't have one guy rated high enough then no need to add a bunch of them and hope one works out. You'll only have so many snaps in camp and a new offense being installed so you can't have 5+ QBs sharing all of them.

Driskell is a guy who MAY put it all together and become a decent starter but he could also be awful. Hogan's chances of being a legit starter IMO are on the low side but he has a higher chance of being a decent backup/stop gap QB.

This. Drafting a bunch of QBs late is basically pissing away draft picks. QB has the lowest odds of success in the 3rd round and below.

If you arent taking a QB early, take one guy that you think could develop into a solid backup and try again to get a QB early next year.

But when you look at the hit rate of late round draft picks anyway, I'd rather risk pissing away a pick on a QB, especially when we aren't happy with the ones we have. I also don't know how you can throw for over 5000 yards and have no talent at all. I've read what you all have said about Doughty and Hogan, and I believe you, but there have been quite a few QBs that have surprised, as well. I agree that we may find what we are looking for next draft.

Unless we're drafting 2 QB's I don't wanna see us draft a QB later than the 2nd.

Makes no sense to draft a QB if there is no QB worth drafting. Beyond the top two guys its a crapshoot while the daft is rich in OL and DL.

And we need both

Your odds of finding a starter or at least a contributing player at basically every other position are quite better. QB's have the highest bust rate from the 4th round on down.

You can have plenty of talent, doesn't mean that it is transferable to the NFL if you're lacking the necessary traits. Colt Brennan threw for like 15,000 yards and 120+ TD's in 3 years of college, he was never going to work out. The vast majority of QB's that have been been late round prospects were guys who had pretty impressive stats and were great college players, they just had no NFL upside.
A Chip Kelly project.

Agree. With 12 picks in the draft, worth a flier from the fourth on imo. Not often a QB with his talent is available that late. He had a rough college career. Could be a better pro if drafted in the right situation.

That is such a mystery to me...and obviously to a lot of NFL Gm's. What do you consider the most telling trait that is either missing or there, to determine success...good feet, arm talent, coolness in the pocket...? If a guy has all of these, he's probably a high pick, but let's say Doughty, with all the great stats. I believe you've said before that he gets too rattled under pressure. That would happen in college too, no? Thanks.
I see some Tony Romo and Alex Smith in him. Romo was an udfa in 2003 so I like this kid still.
Hell no. Go get Brandon Allen who went through hell at Arkansas and only got better.
