Patrick Mahomes QB

THIS. Every year, analysts claim that a certain prospect is moving WAY up the teams' draft boards, which just isn't true. Once a team's initial, film-based evaluations are done, guys don't really move up that far, it's just that the internet "analysts" have only done their own work so far, and they adjust their own "analysis" as they get more information from/about teams. No team is going to share their draft board, so we have no credible idea where the player will be located on their board. If he's drafted high, the media can claim that he moved up after his pro day, because they don't want to look stupid and surprised, and the team isn't going to come out and explain their whole scouting process. I think he's a lot of what Shanahan already said he wanted, and his dramatic improvement in footwork and taking the snap from center, in this short time, should indicate his capacity for learning and improving.

Smith was looked at as a top 12 prospect end of the draft process...please show me a draft analyst saying mahomes is a top 5 pick? Your right no one knows for sure but by the end of the draft process everyone has a pretty good idea who's going in the top 10.

Mahomes having a good pro day doesn't mean squat, especially for qbs...they all have good pro days lol. It's all about the film.

He's gotta work on his footwork, taking snaps under center, reading defenses and going though progressions...I saw a lot of plays where he just abandoned the pocket when he didn't have to and missed on easy positive plays. It took matt Ryan over a yr to understand Kyle's offense...it's not some gimmicky air raid system.

I'm warming up to him but in the 1st no f**king way lol.

Well for starters mich and Watson are much further along as far as mechanics go and it's not like they have horrible arms and can't move around as well.

Goff had crazy good footwork and was very accurate in college. Imo I don't think he was worth the 1st pick in the draft, but was looked at as a top 10 pick throughout the whole draft process PM hasn't.

Look at P lynch dude probably had the best arm in the draft last yr, but dropped to the end of the first. He ran an air raid system and had horrible footwork. He needs time to learn a real football system and work on his timing/footwork.

I think mahomes could be the best qb in the draft but he need to sit an learn for at least a yr or two. No team is drafting a qb in the top 5 to sit and learn...just not. He will have success imo if he goes to a team that already has a older FQB.

I'm no longer convinced he needs a whole year. Some people just acquire and master athletic movements quickly. I expected his footwork to be improved. By the accounts I've read, the improvement was dramatic, and he looked natural under center. That's not a small deal. Reading about his work down at EXOS, it sounds like he was grinding through stumbles and fumbles and setbacks to get better. He has uncommon talent, with the drive and ethic to recognize that potential. I don't think he'll be great if he starts this year, but I think he could look like a common rookie QB who is taking his lumps toward long-term improvement. I wouldn't start him day one, at this point, but only game experience is game experience, and I think he'd have some exciting moments mixed in with frustration.

MD has him top 5 (exactly #5), and he's been a lot more accurate than most of the internet dudes.

Basically what I've been saying....

NFL Network's Mike Mayock was complimentary on the whole when it came to the pro day showing of Texas Tech QB Pat Mahomes.

"The big-arm throws that most quarterbacks don't like to make: 20-yard comeback, cover-2, throw in between the corner and the safety -- he threw both of those beautifully," Mayock said, adding that "[t]he deep, outbreaking routes where you really got to drive it, he was outstanding." No surprise to us on that front, as Mahomes tosses perhaps the best deep ball in the entire 2017 class. Not all was sunshine and gumdrops, though, with Mayock noting that at times, Mahomes appeared to be focusing too much on technique and footwork, leading to a lack of drive on some of his 68 throws. The fact that Mahomes has shown a clear effort to improve his throwing technique and footwork probably matters more than the fact that those aspects of his game are not quite as developed yet. Mayock floats the Saints and Cardinals as two NFL outfits which (due to veteran starters Drew Brees and Carson Palmer) could serve as nice fits for the Texas Tech gunslinger.

Not what mayock was saying after his pro day...work in progress like I said. The tools are all there but be needs time.

That's my point, I guess. If we're talking QB (and we obviously are), where isn't as important as who. If you are convinced he's your guy, you get him. There's no playing around at QB. If you're convinced he's the best guy, no other position in sports penalizes you more for getting the second best guy in the draft vs the best. I think he's the best, and if Shanahan agrees, they need to get him. I'd be stunned if we have a chance at him w/#34, or anywhere we could reach from #34. I'm not gonna throw a fit and threaten to switch teams or anything (lol), b/c IDK if he's Shanny's guy (& because I'm an adult), but I'd be tremendously disappointed if the Cardinals get him and develop him into a monster.

We're in an odd situation right now.

1. There's a good chance we get Cousins next year and no one in this draft is going to beat him out anytime soon.

2. Hoyer is a solid QB with lots of experience in the system. No rookie is going to beat him out.

3. Peterman is the only guy that is used to taking snaps under center and Kyle's offense took the highest percentage of snaps under center in the NFL. But Kyle also successfully adapted his offense to RG3 and incorporated the pistol and zone read so maybe he's willing to change.

If he's willing to change then I'd love to take a Mahomes or Watson.

I'm with Mad, he goes to top half of the first round depending on who needs a Qb.

You got to put a value on him just the same...we need talent everywhere and I'll bet there are 30+ plus guys that graded higher than him. I'm all about BPA this draft and then going all in on qb next yr. I'm not reaching, but hey if Kyle loves him whatever lol

He started working this stuff when? In January? I'd say he's doing pretty well. His footwork was better than it was at the combine. Mayock himself says that the work he's put in is evident, and that matters more than any hiccups he had. The Saints pick at 11, and the Cardinals pick at 13. Why is 2 out of line?

Don't forget the Jets at #6.

That's not based off when they will be drafted or his big board...it's based on how they will be in the NFL career wise

I think it'd be crazy to bet on Cousins. Even if he refuses Washington's deal, they have him locked in next year with the transition tag at ~$28MM. If we negotiate a good deal with him, they just match the deal and keep him for ~5 years.

Shanahan has already said that you don't match players to the scheme, you match the scheme to your players.
