Patrick Mahomes QB

No its actually supposed to happen. Its just a recent trend to have rookies starting. Probably because the QB salary exploded with players getting $30 - $50M guaranteed. Luckily the NFL put a stop to those kind of rookie salaries.

Like 20 years recent? Jamarcus Russell, Jason Campbell, Carson Palmer. So sitting them for a whole year makes them good 33% of the time. Got it.

I'm guessing gone between the 10-13th pick. The floor to me would be the Saints at 32.

Would Jed mettle and "strongly advise" them to do it?

It's not like we're going any where. I mean we're not going to the playoffs for a while. I don't see where they'd be under pressure to start him early.

If we draft a QB there's going to be pressure to start him someyime in year 2 at the latest. All this talk of patience is all good now, but that's because everybody is all optimistic now. If we have Hoyer throwing picks or getting injured and losing games there definitely will be pressure to start a qb we took in the 1st round. This patience isn't going to last forever.

So you think 4 qbs get taken in the 1st? I hope that happens cause that will drop more pro-ready talent to us

It's amazing how fast Mahomes is rising.

Not as amazing as Wentz from ND state did last year.

Yeah, Wentz' rise was amazing, too. Can Mahomes go top 8? There's no telling where he might go.

To mayo: isn't this exactly what we did with Alex? Didn't the Rams just do this? I don't know many (except Grant Cohn ) who think that we have playoffs as our expectation next year. If/when we miss out on the playoffs, wouldn't there be pressure to play Mahomes? "What's the risk" "you're not going anywhere, might as well develop the kid". I could see media stories like that.

To Antix: Agreed. I also think the pressure could come sooner. It'll be interesting to see how the team deals with that.

Depends when he goes. Last year Wentz was going to us at #8 pre combine in several mock drafts. Mahomes was a rd 2 or 3 pick pre combine. Will be interesting where he goes.

I would agree, but I don't think it matters to Lynch and Shanahan. The six year deals, talk about building it 'the right way', etc etc. I just don't see pressure from the media mattering this year. NEXT year, however, you might see it come into play.

I honestly think players usually only rise like this on media boards, not on team boards. They haven't played any new games, so teams have had their film study done for a while. From this point, players move down faster than they move up, mostly from injury or character.

In an instance where a player seems to move up, a team could have a perception of how good a player can/will be, with some question remaining as to how soon the player could reach that potential, due to injury or skill set. In that event, a Pro Day performance could help demonstrate recovery or the acquisition of newer/more refined skills. That could lead a team with a value range set up for a player to place them closer to the high end of that value range.

This. They already signed a bridge QB, so it would be pretty straight forward to explain the intention to start Hoyer while developing a rookie, using the complexity of Shanahan's scheme as the reason.
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline reports the New York Jets "have strong interest" in Texas Tech QB Pat Mahomes.

Pauline was asked not to go into further detail on the matter by his source, so for the time being, "strong interest" is the most we can pass along. Unfortunately, the Jets do not fall into Mahomes' draft sweet zone. Pick No. 6 will almost certainly go elsewhere and New York does not pick again until No. 39 -- at which point Mahomes will probably be off the board. Keep an eye on them as a potential team to trade back into the first round near the end of Day 1 should they decide that Mahomes is their man.

Smoke screen season. They probably do like him, to trade up in the second round and try to leap frog us if the browns don't take him lol. I think he goes to Houston and someone has to trade up in front of them if they want him. Watch out for Bruce Arians crazy ass.
