Patrick Mahomes QB

I could see the Steelers making a move for him too.

You sure? All I see is that they worked him out like they did the other QBs. Standard protocol.

They're just working him out just like any other team I hope all these qbs get overdrafted so better players drop to us and we don't draft one of the top qbs...I do like mahomes but not with our 1st two picks.

Saw a couple tweets and a couple mocks. There's about 150 draft "experts" out there now, so I don't know how plugged in any of them are.
matt miller breakdown of this drafts QBs Patrick Mahomes

POSITIVES
The best arm in the 2017 draft class belongs to Patrick Mahomes II of Texas Tech. A two-year starter at Texas Tech, Mahomes pushed Baker Mayfield and Davis Webb out of Lubbock to earn the starting job. He is able to push the ball all over the field and can do so from multiple platforms with his great arm. A shotgun-only quarterback in college, Mahomes is athletic enough to learn to take snaps from under center. Velocity on all throws is very impressive for Mahomes, who understands how to dial up spin and get the ball through tight coverage. He's a dual-threat player with the strength and speed to be effective as a designed runner or when getting free from pressure. A natural leader, Mahomes has the confidence and poise to be great under pressure. He's rarely rattled, and it shows on the field. The son of a former MLB pitcher, Mahomes has great athletic genes. In 2016, he threw 41 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions and hit on 65.7 percent of his throws. Mahomes' tools are the best of any quarterback in this class.

NEGATIVES
Mahomes has some Brett Favre in his game—the good and bad kind. He loves to launch off his back foot and throw without lining up his hips or shoulders. And while he has the strength to do this, his accuracy suffers on downfield throws when his body isn't right. Learning to line up his body could fix this, but he has to prove he can do that when under pressure. You also don't want to completely take away the gunslinger mentality and athletic traits and try to force Mahomes to become someone he's not. Mahomes, coming from the Texas Tech Air Raid offense, will have to fight against a trend of unsuccessful quarterbacks in the NFL coming from that system. He'll have to adjust to making play calls in the huddle and reading the defense on his own without the aid of the coaches holding up cards on the sideline.

PRO COMPARISON: Blake Bortles, Jacksonville JaguarsFINAL GRADE: 6.75/9.00 (Round 2—Future Starter)
Blake Bortles? Ouch, that's mean.

I hate the Steelers cuz they got 6 championship. They are pretty good draft the players talents. And Cardinals will probably draft to Mahome a in 1st round#12 picks. I hate Cardinals.

I'd agree more with the Favre comparisons. Gonna be a gunslinger and get a lot of picks, but also exciting!

until he proves something I don't think you can compare gimmicky air raid qbs to HOF QBs. Bortles is fair, Blake shouldn't have been starting as soon as he did imo. Both have strong arms and have a gun slinger mentality BUT make a lot of silly mistakes (I've watch mahomes constantly miss easy reads and makes some WTF throws). I thought Blake had a stellar 2nd yr, but took a major step back this past yr (his mechanics were a mess)

I feel like a lot of people have just watched his highlights more than actual games...mahomes is growing on me but not a top 34 pick based on all the other talent in this draft.

I will say if he's Kyle's boy I will jump in the train

They have some similarities but Bortles was slightly more polished with Mahomes having a better arm. Bortles out of college was a very good prospect. He just has struggled to develop under defense first coach Gus Bradley. And Blake needed a lot of work like this class. I don't think any of these QBs would develop well under Gus.
the fact that he only has 10 INTs from constantly launching the ball downfield in tight coverage is impressive. id expect at least.

His success will come from how he does above the neck. boom or bust
Although I love mahomes I don't think shannahan Is going to pick him. His strengths don't line up with the system. He's a play maker who looks to escape the pocket and make something happen' Which could translate into the play action pass elements but in kyles system it's paramount that you do your drop and get the ball out quick. Its a bang bang system. I think mahomes could be special somewhere just probably not here.

Yeah, I'm kind of going iffy with Mahomes. He's got a big arm, but kind of concerned how he'll play as a pocket passer. He likes to extend plays and tends to leave the pocket a little early.
Not sure i see the Blake Bortles/Mahomes comparison. Bortles had slightly above average arm strength and some mechanical issues. Mahomes issues are almost all mental, with making the transition from the air raid offense to a more complicated NFL offense & his decision making.
