Explain it to me then because as far as I can tell the subject of our argument was putting up good numbers means success in the NFL
Then you came in with show me a QB who didn't put up good numbers who did well

Patrick Mahomes/QB/Texas Tech: Mahomes didn't do anything during his pro day except throw the football - and he threw it exceptionally well. Mahomes further confirmed he has the best arm in the draft, as he made a number of vertical throws which had scouts drooling. He took snaps from underneath center and dropped back into the pocket before throwing passes. Normally that's not a big deal, but considering Mahomes almost solely took snaps from the shotgun formation at Texas Tech, NFL teams were impressed with the progress he's showing transitioning to an NFL type of passer.

Don't make me explain the system argument. We both know stats don't determine NFL success.
Can you name me a successful NFL QB who put up bad stats in college?
Tom Brady.
Completed 61% of his passes and 16 TDs, 6 INTs his senior year while splitting time with Drew Henson. Which included a 369 yard & 4 TD comeback victory in the 2000 Orange Bowl.
Stop it with your facts. I don't like Tom Brady, so he shouldn't be good.
^this is mostly the the argument I hear against Mahomes.

We had no argument. I was just pointing out the flaw in your statement.

And what flaw is that
Finding a player who did poorly in college but well in the NFL?
Do you see the flaw in that?

If all successful NFL QBs were also successful college QBs and one of the ways to determine success is by the numbers, then how can you say stats don't determine NFL success? Would this thread have 78 pages if Mahomes was 6'0" 180lbs? No. So obviously his physical gifts are also a reason for his popularity here. So stats alone do not determine success. But you would be foolish to ignore them. You have to put them in the proper context.

Lol we are pretty much arguing the same point just taking different sides on Mahomes. I agree, I just don't see anything much past his stats
He's got an arm, I'll give him that.

He can throw really far on one knee too.

He has good anticipation, can look off safeties, accurate as hell with ball placement, keeps his eyes downfield when scrambling. His biggest flaw to me is his footwork and that can be corrected. He's damn fun to watch.

I don't see what's not to like other than the footwork(which is rapidly improving) and large depth on scrambles. A system doesn't define a guy's career. His biggest flaw might be that he's as confident as Brett Favre, but that may also end up being his best feature.. He's smart, for how many times he threw the ball, that TD:INT ratio is nice. He made money on trusting himself, "I liked my matchup" - He has the mobility to keep the play alive long enough for his guy to get a step and his arm strength doesn't let people out run his cannon. He can't do that as much in the NFL.. So yes.. he must convert to the NFL system and DB skills.. but that's exactly why he won't be a day 1 starter, he's raw. He might be the 3rd QB off the board because the QB panicked teams want a guy they can play day 1... which they believe are Trubisky(1 season, risky) and Watson(friggin winner, but I don't think he'll be great in the NFL). Mahomes is my guy because of his physical ability (eyes down field, elusiveness, arm talent - strength and accuracy) and on field performance in college.. and he won't be expected to start right away.. Between Shan and Hoyer mentoring him, imagine him in a 2-3 years!

Agreed. I think he can start after year two.... but sitting for three years might have him going Aaron Rodgers his first game in the fourth year.

I like this kid, but we're going to have to trade up from #34 to get him. Do it, Shanalynch.

trade down then use the extra 2nd to trade up again in the 2nd.
Barnett and Mahomes would be marvellous.

Not bad. Williams/Mahomes combo I wouldn't mind, either.
