Patrick Mahomes QB

You can never say never, but I'd be shocked if the Niners took him at #2.

I'd be shocked as well, but if the scenario is he's the guy they want, they can't trade back and aren't confident they could get back up where they'd feel they need to be to get him with their second pick, then they gotta do what they gotta do. He is the only QB in this class imo that has the potential to be superstar. He's also got a decent bustability to him, but Im down with shooting for the stars.

Wait 2nd overall in the draft? Come on man...

So if he pans out are you going to be like... "well yeah he might be a top 10 QB but damn why did it have to be for the #2 pick!?"

Exactly. I dont understand how people can think it is a waste to get a QB #2 overall regardless of all these experts clamoring that there isn't a single first round QB to draft this year. Those bozos routinely get things wrong. Look at Dak. These people would have said the Eagles are crazy to get Dak number 2 overall.

***BOTTOM LINE**** At least 1 of these QBs drafted in 2017 WILL be WORTH it! Book it. Can't remember more than 1 draft class recently where all the QBs flopped.

2013 and 2002 were both positively awful for QB's. 2009 had Matt Stafford who was the obvious pick as the #1, after that every other QB was basically crap. Both Mark Sanchez and Josh Freeman among others flopped big time.

I think this QB class is too uncertain to invest an early 1st into any of these guys. They are all varying degrees of project, they all have significant weaknesses that will need to be addressed, its just a very high risk QB class.

Understood but there's no guarantee we'll be in this position again next year. We aren't the Browns, choosing a high pick year after year. We shouldn't be mad or negative if they choose to strike while the iron's hot.
Reports this morning that he's KC's QB1, CLE like him and Trubisky, ARI loves him, and the Bills would consider him at 10. That's not even counting how hard the Saints have been looking at him.

Unless the 49ers are smoke-screening HORD, I don't think their showing the type of interest they would if they were invested in selecting him as early as they'd need to to get him. I keep holding out hope that they were the sneaky team who anonymously worked out Mahomes.

I really like Mahomes but doesn't seem like the type of qb Shanny would want. Seems like he just wants Vets that he can polish up, rather than a project like Pat. He knows he can turn chicken s**t into chicken salad with decent Vets.

Those teams are in a different perspective than we are. They are all desperately looking for a QB better than the one they have AND don't already have one foot in on acquiring Cousins. Now factor in that Kyle has had success with every QB he's coached and knows exactly what type of offensive players makes his offense work well.

Kyle knows exactly what he can do with each QB in the draft. He has proven to be able to develop a QB (Cousins), improve a QB who is already good (M. Ryan), and make a below average QB into a solid placeholder (Hoyer).

I don't think QB is a pressing issue for Kyle. If we take Tribusky, then I'm running with Kyle in that he thinks this guy can be real good.

I can see ARI taking him. Arians probably sees a quicker Big Ben in PM.

Ultimately the NFL is an "Arm Strength" league when it comes to drafting. Doesn't matter if you complete 50% of passes, if you got a strong arm you are drafted in the 1st (Locker).

Mahomes has one of the strongest arms coming out of college and if he ends up with a great coaching staff that can polish his game, the sky is the limits.

Yeah, but chicken salad sucks.

What if he takes Mahomes?

I definitely like Mahomes' arm strength, but I also like his guts. Dude competes past the sticks on third down, and there isn't enough of that in the league. His arm strength helps him attempt those throws in tight coverage, for sure, but you still have to have the balls to try.

I dont think he knows that at all. I dont buy the idea that a coach is imbued with some sort of magical powers to make a so so QB into a great one.

Kyle had his most success in Atlanta where he got to work with the most talented QB he has coached by far.

-Cousins didnt start playing well until Shanahan was gone.

-Hoyer had better years in Houston and Chicago than he had under Shanahan.

People need to really pump the brakes on this "We has QB wizard now!" talk. Talent is talent. There isnt a coach out there that doesnt need elite talent to win.
