You know who else fits that description? Colin Kaepernick

Meh. Mahomes looks far more natural as a passer than Kaepernick ever did. Kaepernick always looked kind of robotic, not very elusive, lacked touch on his throws, they both had strong arms and were mobile passers, beyond that, very different players. Kaepernick was far more of a pure runner than Mahomes has ever been.

And Mahomes reads his progressions, looks off safeties, and plays with feel and savvy. He makes small adjustments when big ones aren't necessary. That sounds dumb, but it's a big deal.

I began to notice that in 2014. It was the strangest thing ever since Kap was classified as a "mobile" quarterback. When the rush was on, it seemed as if he had no real elusiveness, short area quickness (like Russell Wilson or Michael Vick) to escape the rush and was easily caught. His abilities as a runner only worked when he could get up to full speed. He was fast in a straight line and a long strider, but Kap definitely was a not elusive/mobile. If he could've developed as a pocket passer where defenders would actually turn their back to him covering his receivers, he would've been lethal. Oh well, woulda, coulda, shoulda.

He wasn't developed right after Harbaugh left .

And I feel a lot better about Mahomes development with Shannahan having a 6 year contract. Kapernick was doing just fine when Harbs was around. He had an off year the year Harbs got ran out of town but we also had a record number of injuries that year. When we went with Tomsula things started getting bad fast for Kap. Whoever we draft i feel confident that Shanny can pull the best out of them.

Sidenote on Mahomes: Don't know if he is the right fit for us, but he looks like he has fun when he plays and that he wants to be great. I think that's huge because a lot of guys nowadays just seem to play because they are a talented athlete and it's great money. But they might not have a passion for the game and love their job.

One Team Hears 49ers Will Select Patrick Mahomes at No. 2

The 49ers are a complete mystery right now. No one seems to know what they'll do, as there is no consensus selection among NFL Draft analysts and speculators. With a new front office, there's not even a baseline of what the team could be looking for.
Charlie Campbell and I put out feelers to our various team sources. Charlie reported a few days ago that a team believed the 49ers to be "desperate" to trade down. The consensus otherwise was the 49ers selecting Mitchell Trubisky No. 2 overall.

A high-ranking NFC personnel man responded to my query Monday morning, and the name he gave me for San Francisco's pick was a surprising one:

Patrick Mahomes.

This team source said that he heard over the weekend that the 49ers would take Mahomes at No. 2 overall. Some believe Mahomes to be the best quarterback prospect in this class, so if San Francisco shares that opinion, Mahomes would be just as logical of a selection as Trubisky.

Quarterbacks - mainly Trubisky, but also Deshaun Watson and now Mahomes - have been rumored to San Francisco, and understandably so, given the team's dire need for a quarterback. Taking a signal-caller would block the potential of signing Kirk Cousins, but the 49ers would have a concrete quarterback to build around for certain.

He wasnt developing WHILE Harbaugh was there. Even in 2014 they were still dumbing down the playbook for him which is the exact opposite of what you want to see from a fourth year QB. Harbaugh and Roman did a great job covering up for his weaknesses but they didnt develop him for s**t.

I think the next time Harbaugh is coaching in the NFL you will see him with a very traditional pocket passer because even he deep down at some point had to realize that Kaepernick was a lost cause with his inability to run the offense as intended.

He was the same remedial passer then as he was when he entered the NFL. He just never made any meaningful progression as a QB. Once teams figured out that he couldnt handle being blitzed to death, it was all she wrote.

I would love this. If we take Mahomes (a draft crush who I just didn't see us taking), then Shanny sees a FQB. Love love love watching his games. He's easily the most electric player in the draft. No doubt though, Shanny and Co. would have their work cut out developing him into an NFL QB. Good thing he doesn't have to start for a year or two.

One of the few rumors I hope is true.

Way to keep this about Mahomes. Getting tired of reading the same crap about how other qbs that played here sucked all along. Let it go. They are gone. They won't be back. Stop beating a horse that died at end of week 17.

Alright I'll agree with this. But damn after his Bears debut game, you thought he would've developed into a MVP caliber player. I mean he actually had touch on his passes. wtf happened

jesus this would shake up the draft! Mahomes needs some serious refinement though.
