NT Vita Vea - Washington - 6'5" - 332

I don't think he will get past the Bills 2 picks, they need to replace Dareus

It will be interesting to see if we show any interest in him come the combine. We all know AA most likely has one foot out the door, but it would also tell you that they feel Solly or even Defo can line up outside and still be effective on 3rd down because you don't draft Vea in the top 10 and not have him be a 3 down lineman.

The weird thing is it could work having all 3 play on passing downs. You would just need a legit edge rushing terror lined up with them. We find that guy through free agency and I'm ok with selecting Vea if they feel he's too damn good to pass up.

Imagine a Dline of:

5T- Solomon Thomas / Tank Carradine
NT- Vita Vea / DJ Jones
3T- Deforest Buckner/ Sheldon Day
LEO- Ziggy Ansah/ Elvis Dumervil/ AA

Oh. My. God.

I would think with that front and Reuben running around free we would have the leagues top run D.

Fixed..
I'm on the Vita Vea bandwagon. Having a more explosive Ngata will put fear into every offense we face. Having him next to Buck would be a nightmare for any offense for 10+ years. I'd trade back in to the 1st rd to draft him.

I agree, it almost sucks that we don't really need one.

I think we'll be just fine with Mitchell and DJ Jones, and obviously Buck is a star.

Washington DT Vita Vea
Player comp: Haloti Ngata
I was scouting the West Coast for the Ravens when we drafted Ngata. He had rare size and agility. I think Vea is a more explosive version of Ngata. That's a scary thought.

Nice line for 2 downs, but I think Saleh is focused on improving the pass rush and he wants Buckner/Thomas inside on pass downs.

Not saying we couldn't find a spot for Vea, but I don't think he's what they're looking for. All speculation of course.

Quoting myself here to say I was wrong about Vea. He's a bad man. Watch the UCLA game and he was increbidle. He's nearly unblockable and he gets in the backfield when he isn't double or triple teamed.

Vea lining up next to Buckner would be insane. You wouldn't be able to run up the middle and they'd collapse the pocket on passing downs. They'd make it very easy for Solomon and our LEO, even if that is Dumervil/Marsh.

I'd be quite alright with drafting him at 9/10. I like the idea of adding him more than drafting a guy like Nelson. Give JG a dominant defense and we're in the playoffs.
The way he plays, the style, reminds me of Justin Smith. Running forward, arms windmilling all over the place, powering his way through the man in front of him.

Of course, a much bigger Justin Smith, also probably a bit slower. But a nice player to have. Even though the 49ers have picked a bunch of DL, and picked up some seemingly good players, he could be a difference-maker.
NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah ranks Vita Vea ninth on his updated top 50 prospects.

Vea was viewed as a divisive prospect for most of the year, largely due to perceptions-- substantiated or not -- of an inconsistent motor for his time with the Huskies. Jeremiah doesn't seem to be too concerned. "Vea is a massive defensive tackle prospect with remarkable power, quickness and agility," he writes. "He's a dominant run defender, routinely resetting the line of scrimmage against both individual blockers and double-teams." It should not shock anyone if the 6-foot-4, 346-pound defender is one of the first interior defenders off the board.

9th, perfect
Ah man do we need another Buckner?

Edge rusher/sacks will still be an issue

He's just an option to discuss. I think he would take over for Mitchell
He looks good but... another defensive lineman?
I love this kid.

Him inside next to Buck would literally change football games imo. It may allow us to get by with "weaker" edge guys because those two would command 4 guys each snap, no joke. So someone on the outside or stunts etc, makes me predict massive pressure with proper scheming. There is nothing like collapsing a pocket from the front four and especially the middle guys. It's the only way to beat Brady.

I know then we say - what about Thomas, or Earl, AA etc, I actually don't even care. We could have a sick rotation with that. He is a damn bear out there lol You could move everyone else around with him in the middle. Hell - lets snag Ziggy and draft him.

The real question is where does he project to go? Feels like he will shoot up draft boards. This is the type of guy to fall right into Belicheck's lap at the end of the round.
If we address ER and CB in FA down to make this happen. Anything to strengthen the line
I watched about an hour of Vita tape last night and went to bed giggling. I challenge anyone to watch his tape and try not to laugh. It's hilarious watching Vita throw around OL like children, or OL hopelessly trying to double, even triple team him.

My buddy says Vita is his cousin and that Vita grew up a big-time 49er fan.

I think best case scenario if we were to get Vea is to sign ziggy/lawrence and talib/trumaine in the offseason, trade down to the teens to get another 2nd and grab vea.

Our line would be Solomon, bucky, vea, and ansah

imo that line in their prime would be the perfect recipe against a prime brady.

If Solly improves his outside rushing, that seriously might be the most intimidating line in the entire league. Jacksonville might be better at rushing the passer, but we'd just beat OL to hell for 4 quarters. Foster would also feast against the run with all those big bodies keeping him clean.
